Hi Ady.... I'm sure you are not going nut's, I remember a UK ABC copy of Bobby Hutton selling for £150, why this is, can only be that the buyer is naive, New to the scene, or indeed does not know or has limited knowledge about buying vinyl. I could say that we all learnt the hard way, but there is a part of me who thinks that the dealer has mugged a potential soulster to our scene, and with the wisdom of old age needs a good spank? Hi Rob..... I have many James Brown records + other King Artists, I'm sorry that I do not have this, but way back in the early 7t's I did, I got it from my fave place for finding rare soul, DAVIDS BOOKSHOP in Letchworth Herts, the place still exists, but not the place I use to get my finds, which was a warehouse attached to the SPIRELLA building, I found this & many more of JB's records along with boat loads of soul, I know that I no longer have that copy however I have a box of KING records that I have yet to look through, but don't get your hopes up to much as it must be rare if you have not found a copy?. if I have a copy I will gladly give you it for nothing, there must be someone who can help you? KTF Dave K.

HI ALL...In my opinion the 3 Degrees are one of the worlds greatest female trio to hit my lug holes, they knock spots of many Detroit groups, and issued many fine 45' s, if that wasn't enough they played an integral part in the late 6t's early 7t's helping create Gamble & Huffs dream of a label that would take the place of the MOTOWN SOUND by launching their PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL LABEL. "when will I see you again" is a classic reminder of how great the group were, and to this day it would not bother me if at a venue the DJ played any of the fine stuff from the label. So you may think it's a PHILLY INT record that I have picked, however you would be wrong. the £ Degrees have a few great RARE SOUL TRAX that you should own, The one I have picked from their catalogue of SWAN recordings is the FAB "are you Satisfied" I hope you are, now who gives a F**K at 3am if we call this a Northern Soul Classic or a RARE SOUL masterpiece? not me I'm not into that sort of politics of the scene. Below are scaans of my copy played today at 1pm , The 3 DEGREES - "are you satisfied" B/W - "love of my life" - SWAN #S-4267-D/{***** Value? All I can say is "when will you see me again"?.... very soon say's I. KTF Dave K.

Hi All.... Yes it's a nice poster, however posters need to be graded properly just as records are, so for example say the poster was in mint condition at a value of £150 this poster has quite a lot of damage to it, small rips & tares to the edges, many marks, and fold creases, drop it's value to £50 sale price, a dealer would only buy it if they already had a buyer in mind, for £15, on this topic I have a ticket for the event on the poster also a TORCH poster signed by the DJ's who played there in 1972. So when it comes down to it £50 would be a good price to pay, however off the SOUL SCENE it would be worth £15. I hope you get a good price for it. KTF Dave K

HI ALL....Below is a scan of my copy, the 45 come as a bonus 45 on a German double LP of Don's recordings, the 45 is the only legit copy, and is the official 2nd Issue, it was limited to 400 copies only, It's very hard to put a value on this record as the original first pressing is worth £8000 to £12000, the 2nd legit issue originally sold any where from £15 to £100 looking at POPSIKE, so I would say today's value is £75 & will surely rise in price. Any other pressings of the record are not legit & worth no more than a tenner, (this is my opinion) KTF

HI ALL.... Not had much time in the record room However I got into the mood of playing good 6t's SOUL that should be played more often. As a keen collector of soul on UK labels I thought that I would revive some of the good stuff, what better than the Kelly Brothers who had only a few 45s in the UK on different label, before I go on I must mention that the Kelly Brothers President LP is a must have (if you can find a copy) back to the 45 Hanging in there is also issued on President records #143 released in 68. The 45's below are mine, the other one on BLUE HORIZON I will put up later. KTF Dave K

Hi All..... A lot of talk about the pressing & the MATRIX #. but very little about the recording? Now the AD copy which is the origanal (Mick Smith gave my wife a original copy for her birthday back in 83, He has never given me anything for my birthday WHY?). To my ears this sounds like a runner up on POP IDLE, it is lacking any kind of soul, but that means that some collectors of rare & obscure POP/Crossover would not say no to owning it, however that is down to the individual/s I wonder what the value of this find is worth?, for me it is not my kind of sound however it is catchy and rare, any guesses? KTF Dave K -
HI ALL...How many versions of "my babe" are there?, this is one of the best, a gritty sound and a quality R&B backing that takes me back to my first year as a teenager (13 yrs of age!) my sister who was an original MOD would dance to this, As you can imagine this version typifies that classic MOD sound of R&B that paved it's way to make the RARE SOUL SCENE, So I think you should be proud of the London MODS of 1963/4 for establishing the Hart & Soul of what has made life so good. At times I think I'm getting soft in my old age?.. ANYWAY heres a copy I picked up 2 weeks ago in minty condition but NOC, if you like this 45 this spare could be yours for the right trade or i might make it a prize in a future competition, as I have not done one for a long time, HERE IS MY COPY KTF DAVE

Historical (Dave Godin) question - help needed
dthedrug replied to Paul-s's topic in All About the SOUL
HI ALL "NORTHERN SOUL, RIGHT ON NOW & KEEP THE FAITH" Well Dave ended his column with KTF for the first time in Blues & Soul issue #23 November 1969 the last monthly to be issued, Now I mention this as a good example of how you should look at the how Dave used the descriptive words to accuretley sum up people who collected 6ts Rare Soul that had been deleted, and USA 45s that were only available at the SOUL CITY shop, It's how he used the term Northern Soul that counts, in the same way he ended his column with KTF, I know of no other person to use that term to finish a write up on SOUL music or any other music, as to the poster it refers to a Northern group coming down South playing to a audience use to having many top R&B groups play at the RICY TICK CLUB that held some of their GIGs in the town, To conclude I tried to get Pete Smith to claim ownership of the words Beat Ballard which he used to describe Mid Tempo soul on WIKIPEDIA, now I know the term was used as early as the 1920s, but it was Pete's write ups in Beatin Rhythm that I first saw the term written in a sentence to describe a record review, now i am aware that i am be pedantic but i think that I may be right, if not I don't really care, RIGHT ON NOW & KEEP THE FAITH, Dave K -
HI ALL....I was going to tell Pete he was not mistaken about the Blue & White Demo, also as stated it does not have the spoken intro, As for the UK issue I have 2 of them, KTF.

HI ALL....There I was living in yesteryear as usual, when I rememberd seeing Major Lance at the Top Rank Hanley, when I recalled 3 TAMLA MOTOWN songs 1)the Contors "baby hit & run" 2) the Isleys "tell me" 3) R Dean Taylor, I picked the RDT song because it was the one that made the charts, my 1st copy was on a budget LP, however 2 weeks ago I got a US copy from Mick Smith, in all the years this was the first US copy I've ever had, I hope you have got a flashback to 1974. my copies KTF

HI A scan would be good, over the years when trying to restore records, if you are not careful and you are useing bleech, pink labels such as PYE records will lose there colour, normaly they go to an off white, this may of happened to your record, maybe someone tried to remove a name written with a felt tip pen, KTF.
-
HI How do you price a record that has no demand, however a keen collector of UK labels, would pay £30 tops for it, in saying that it is a good one to have, the big problem these days, peopleseem not to buy records hey don't know, they tend to just want whats indemand (sheep heads) old school colectors, like myself will buy 50 45s at a time I don't look at the price tag I look at the 45, before Manships guide, record collector, & the internet (Ebay) we all took big risks & we went off instinct, For a correct valuation of your record, Pete Smith would be my choice to value it, he might even sell it for you. KTF

WOULD YOU ADAM & EVE IT, THE MACHINE IS BACK, AS YOU MAY BE AWARE MY MANY YEARS OF LIVING THE HIGH LIFE ON THE RARE SOUL SCENE WITH IT'S ALL NIGHTERS & ALL DAYERS, ESPECIALLY BACK IN THE 1970s, WHEN I LIVED IN LETCHWORTH, MY WEEK WOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS:- THURSDAY NIGHT, GO TO BEDFORD WITH MICK SMITH, FRIDAY WIGAN OLDIES BUYING & SELLING 45s IN THE BAR WITH MICK SMITH, ADY C, & PETE WID, SATURDAY NIGHT BLACKPOOL MECCA (OR AS I USE TO SAY, GOING TO BLOCKPOOL TO SEE THE HALLUCINATONS). THEN ON TO WIGAN ALL NIGHTER, SUNDAY THE RITZ OR CAT WHISKERS OR SAMANTHAS ALL DAYERS, THEN MAKE MY WAY HOME, SO COMPARED TO SOME PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN THE NORTH, US FROM THE SOUTH REALLY HAD TO BE PASSIONETTE ABOUT SOUL MUSIC...OR BLOCKED? SO THE LAST FEW MONTHS, MY HEALTH HAS WORSENED, WITH TYPE 2 DIABETIS WHICH HAS LEFT ME WITH 50/50 CHANCE OF LOSING MY LOWER LEGS, SUSPECTED BOWL CANCER, HEP B&C, MY ADDICTION ISSUE PLUS OTHER STUFF, ALL LEADING ME HAVING TO TAKE 47 DIFFERANT TABLETS EVERY DAY, THEN THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH MY LAPTOP SCREEN, AFTER ME PUTTING MY FIST THROUGH IT LAST jANUARY AS I WAS IN A SULKING MOOD, BUT NOW I'M BACK, AS I have no sound files for these 3, if someone could put them on for me, However I must show you the Craig Douglas on Indian $tateside don't know how rare it is but my copy is the only one i've seen, VALUE PLEASE AT THIS TIME I MUST THANK YOU ALL FOR KEEPING THE CLUB ALIVE, SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO MIKE & A BIG THANKS TO KEV. I HOPE TO GET HIM A PINT IF HE GETS HIMSELF DOWN TO THE STABLE, JOHNNY BEGGS GETS THERE? SO HERE WE GO AGAIN, IT SEEMS THAT KEV MADE NO RULES FOR THIS THREAD THAT'S COOL, HOWEVER I STILL BELEIVE THAT ANY RECORD ON THIS THREAD, YOU SHOULD OWN A COPY (thats what the club is all about. picking a 45 from your collection, it does not matter if rare, northern, beat ballard, funk, motown, or JA Soul, my preferance is rare UK SOUL & classic northern origanals).
-
HI ALL Getting a valuation for your collection is integral, then you can make a decision on how you sell them, selling them in small lists is best, however don't sell all your top records (value wise) as you will be stuck with many records with no demand, Dealers expect to pay at best 50% of the collections value, and quite often they will cherry pick, As we can recommend some good dealers who you can approach John Manship, Pete Smith & Mick Smith are trusted, however there are many more, KTF
-
HI ALL When I first read your review in Beating Rhythm you were the first person who had mentioned the record, It would of gone down well at the CASINO 78 & onward (thank god I dropped of the scene) However I still play my DEMO now & again, and it is in it's own way a rare 45 if you collect Northern Dancers on UK labels I would rate as **. KTF

HI ALL.....My life! Just logged onto SOULSOURCE only to find this HORROR THREAD, I started collecting back in 1967, since then I have tried many ways of improving the condition of my finds, I use to have a strong belief that records needed improving on, for example I must of tried 50 ways to put a center back into a NOC 45, only to come to the decision not to both especially .with DEMO 45, The fact of the matter the center is part of the records history, the center removed by the reviewer of the disc, and it is best to leave alone as we all can spot the fake center (I HOPE). I would suggest to you all learn about cleaning from someone who knows about restoration, don;t try & do it yourself, just learn how to look after records not how to restore them as you will spoil the at a rate of 20 to 1. Acetates have a different plastic coated than your normal 45, and every company use differs machines to make the acetate, So my findings are never ever try and restore acceletates unless you want to ruin them, PLEASE DON'T WRECK RARE RECORDS. GIVE THEM TO ME NOT THE DUSTBIN. KTF

HI PETE Very nice I paid £15 for Alexander Patton from Mick, & same price for Carl Douglas & £2 for Tammi Lynn plus many more, your finds are brill, I have a nice copy of 2 many people issue if you have a trade or get me a nice price?
-
HI ALL ... I like to read jokes, however gave up reading the DANDY & BEANO! when I was a kid, I have both issue & demos of the drifter & sad thing, the latter is in my opinion the better of the 2, both records have been in demand since 1969, so giving a price of £80 for sad thing is not a true reflection of price, now I must admit we all have had a lucky find in the past & most cheap rare records come from people who are in the need of a quick sale, Pete Smith talks about finding a copy of FEEL SO BAD for £2 but he would never sell it at that price, my piont is sell me your demos of rare UK...KTF

HI ALL....My first copy come from CONTEMPOS in London in 73, this was the 1st issue stock copy. In 74 it gained plays at WIGAN CASINO, by then the UK stock copy had been deleted, however SELECTERDISC had US copies in stock, EMI had almost given up on the TAMLA MOTOWN output in the UK, most releases were reissues of 6s hits, some with unreleased B sides, however they spotted that "THE NIGHT" was popular, it was given a new release status hence the number change, the record become one of MOTOWNS big sellers of the mid 7s. When EMI got rid of the TAMLA MOTOWN label to RCA the 45 was released with the old black TAMLA MOTOWN label. I would value copies of the NIGHT as :- RCA-TM copy,£15, EMI-MOWEST 3024 2nd issue £1, 3024, 1sided DEMO £25, release date (27-3-75). EMI MOWEST 1st ISSUE #3001 £50+. DEMO? (I do not have a demo of 3001 so no value from me, however I do have a BLANK LABEL copy of 3001 which a £100+ value can easy be achieved as a genuine UK rare soul sound, however be aware that the copy you buy is not a 3024 copy with the labels removed??/..KTF.

HI ALL Really hard to value this rare 45, Mick smith had the Ben E King blank & Lou Johnson Unsatisfied on London Monument DEMO, & the Darrel Banks issue was found, however they are big money records, Charlie Rich has both labels, your record is very rare but at a guess is worth £40 tops to a UK collector, but it is a nice one to have. KTF DAVE K

HI ALL Some great info on the VOWS, My copy cost 50p at the November All-nighter at WIGAN CASINO back then for less than £5 you could buy records that today would cost £££s KTF DAVE K
