  1. I have a few my fist copy of Gene McDaniels walk with a winner is like the one in the photo, I bout it from Pete Wid at the Casino early 77 I remember it clearly he had 6 UK issues that were £15 each Day, Mick S bout 2 of them when I found out he was selling them my copy was the last copy when we looked at it it was chipped with the broken bit in the sleeve it was a must have record for me at the time as no body really had heard it I paid £5 for it when I got home I played it and there was about half a turn of dead wax before the record started whoopee I have still got it and yes I have a RED & white DEMO but I still play it now and again to me its a priceless piece of Wigan Memorabilia and has a good provenance of nostalgic value what do you think Also I have quite a few rare US records and only £ weeks ago I was offered £150 from Rob P for it at Wolves record Fair. so the golden rule is in the real world of collecting 45s the true value is £2/5 but on the RARE RECORD SOUL SCENE it can be any thing as you may never find a copy again DAVE KIL
  2. Hi it is my strong opinion you should send it back as this is missing a large amount of vinal not as a chip that he desrcibed? as much as you want the recored it is only desirable point that if you block cover the gap you can use it to DJ with and no you are not playing a pressing sadley I would value your record at £2 only if you disagree ask a dealer to buy it of you, the dealer you got it from should refund your money and give you the record. I wish you luck and be very asertive with the so called dealer. MIND THE GAP DAVE KIL
  3. I was talking to my mate Jim Silles Sunday who is a very knowlagable in Jamacan music about this subject he recons that apart from EMI group of lables most of the JA soul sides are infact just almost boots and pressed up by the big producers in Kingston, he also was telling me about JA LPs on US fedral label not the JA label of the same name he did give me a list but at the mo I cant find it? 4. Solaman King thats what I meant to say? NOT Jimmy Thomas SOZ DAVE KIL
  5. yes tony I have seen that its quite rare maybe its a differant lable but I am sure it exists I check with Jim S as for BSBEB what a great recored that I bout at the time of release eary ones have one of the greatist sleeves going the Black Man mouth open with blue eyes I would say that they are rare, the black man is a postman or a road sweeper from Enfield I am not making this up its true I tells you DAVE KIL
  6. I totaly agree DAVE KIL
  7. Hi Tony I used to own a Jamaican press SUE Record same number as UK issue and same stamp matrix No Big Jay Mcneilly? however the label was RED & BLACK instead of RED & YELLOW and had a Dink-ed centre makes you wonder if there's a Jackie Day, I gave it to Mick S years ago, I got it from a small pile of records from Andrew in NOTTS the reggae importer, I have also seen a Jimmy Thomas on Jamaican Parlophone DAVE KIL
  8. This is true thats how we got our first imports the Arther Dailys bought them realy cheap hopeing they were pop records and make a mint however we no that they could not get rid of them and it was places like Moors in Luton & Leiton Buzzard, Selecta Disc and so on got hold of them the maine Port was Liverpool and South Wales hence the big change in record policy in clubs like the Wheel and the Night Owl in Liecester DAVE KIL
  9. For those of us who collect UK labels and UK only soul from the 6ts, (And I must point out that I don't know the seller) there's a really nice copy on EBAY with no bids...This classic record was quite popular a few years ago, however to own a copy in this condition is very rare and a must have in the old box, I first heard this song at the Flamingo in Wardour St in early 68 it is a UK recording on the very rare Doctor Bird off shoot label Direct DS 5002 B B/w I DONT WANT which is the proper A side which is a classic MOD sound and in my opinion brilliant brings back memories of the suites in the West End Wareing 3/4 leathers and bottle green crew neck jumpers from Austin Reeds? In the last 40yrs since I have been collecting I have only had a few copies and most of the were in crap condition ripped labels writing on them no centre, even top Reggae collectors who collect Doctor Bird label have not got it? The Question I here you asking why am I telling every one about it why not by it and sell it myself the answer is I think that this record should be in the hands of true collectors whatever that means not in the hands of dealers as I am a Soulful Person and I don't want to here I wanted that record as for true value well its got to be rarer than Vala Regan on red Atlantic ain't it? by the way I have my own mint copy Its a classic RAM JAM CLUB BRIXTON SOUND RAM RAM RAM GO MAN GO!****EBAY item150332395969 as I say a must have record if you collect UK DAVE KIL
  10. AS AN OLD ROADIE FROM THE 7ts, ITS NOT BLACK AND IT AINT GOT WHEELS ON IT, OR PROTEX HANDLES, LOCKS AND EDGES? DAVE KIL
  11. My close mate Jim Silles in London a few years ago now, won a Ray Barreto single on a Peruvian label, it came from a very small town/village in Peru and only took 7 days to reach him, however in these days we are so used to having records in mailers and I have a couple of times received records wrapped in the middle of 2 pieces of wood, his record came in a very thin envelope with Peruvian stamps covering it no protection packaging. the envelope looked like something picasso would have done and we had the vision of a man wearing a bowler hat and Pancho riding on a donkey over the mountains to the city? and how it survived the airmail service is any ones guess and then the Royal Mail sorting office and I forgot to mention it was pressed on styrene? this is true story and as I am a quick payer on auction sites I have had to wait over 1 month to receive a record from a UK dealer who requests you leave positive feedback for me I will do the Same for you which pisses me of every time, I always think of Jim and his Peruvian record. 14. Hi Pete this should not be to hard if you are prepaired to do a little research 1st most music publishers had there addresses in (tin Pan Ally) Denmark Street SOHO there should be a link somewhere on the net Essex music I am sure were based there I am pretty sure the were a part of Famous Chapel and anouther link would be EMI who published most of there songs if not it would be the DECCA company as PYE had its own accitate Do you know a man called Phil Spellman who lives in london he collects accitates I have sold him a few over the years especialy Beat Groups he is THE MAN I dont have his number however MS should have it he gives good cash for uknown acitates best of luck DAV KIL

  18. £20+ I WOULD SAY? hAVE YOU GOT A COPY OF ISLAND..WI-237b-MARCIA GRIFFITHS-YOU NOW GOOD B/W THE GREAT ROY RICHARDS CLASSIC-GREEN COLLIE? A gret double sider that pleases old style Jamacan SKA and a classic MOD version of the great Hollies record..Like yourself I dont know how to value the disk as it is relativly cheap on Jamancan inport but that should not detract the value which is again £20+ the real issue in trying to price these type of 45s is if I gave you £30 how quick can you get a copy? last saturday I sold a spare copy of Glen Miller based on my own experiance of having had 6 copies in the past and the condition of the recored following the sale 2 well known UK collectors informed me the also wanted it and of course the price I sold it for could of been doubled straight away? however I know that may be so but I believe I sold it for the true value and as such if I buy from that person I know that I wont have to pay over inflated prices for records however my approach is not recomended if you pay top money for a record in the fist place as you will want to at least want to get your money back? as such the true value of some records are not reflected in the price that is being asked, however the Glen Miller is very rare DAVE KIL
  19. F**K ME I MUST LEAD A SHELTERD LIFE, I NEW THAT THERE MUST BE OTHER VERSIONS, IT MAKES SENCE OF WHAT I WAS TOLD ALL THOSE YEARS AGO, THANKS FOR THIS CLIP NICE ONE DAVE KIL
  20. HAVING LIVED IN WOLVES FOR 30 YRS NOW, IN MY YOUTH I MADE SURE THAT THE WEEKEND WAS ACTION PACKED, COMING UP TO THE MIDLANDS TO GO TO THE CATS, UP THE JUNCTION MECCA AND THE TORCH WITH THE LIKES OF MICK SMITH ect, WHEN WIGAN OPENED IN SEPT 73 UP UNTIL I DROPPED OF THE SCENE IN THE SPRING OF 78 I WOULD GO TO THE MECCA, WIGAN SAT NIGHT ,WIGAN OLDIES ALLNIGHTERS, CATS WHISKERS,SAMANTHAS, THE RITZ, CLEATHORPS BOTH PIERS, YATE,ST IVES AND PETERBOURGH, NOT FORGETTING THE MALLETT AND MANY MORE I EVEN WENT TO THE WHEEL IN 69, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE WHEN I CAME TO WOLVES EXPECTING IT TO BE DRIPPING WITTH RARE SOUL? I KNOW I DID NOT GO TO STAFFORD SHAME ON ME BUT DID GO TO THE VIC, 86 CLUB, JUNCTION 10 ALLNIGHTERS, KEELE, AND USE TO DJ AT THE BLACK HORSE, NOT FORGETTING PADDY & AGGYS DUES AT THE CONAUGHT, AND TEDS AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS, BUT RECENTLY LIKE THE LAST 8 YEARS I STAY AT HOME AND GET MORE SATISFACTION PLAYING MY OWN RECORDS THIS IS MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WITH THE GREATEST RESPECT TO ALL MY FRIENDS MOST LOCAL SOUL NIGHTS ARE TO MUCH THE SAME IN THAT THEY PLAY THE SAME STUFF ALL THE WHILE I HAVE RANTED ON ABOUT THIS SITUATION FOR YEARS AND THE POLICY GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS IF YOU OWN A 100 TOP TUNES YOU GET A DJ SPOT IF YOU OWN AND TRULY COLLECT SOUL MUSIC FOR THE THE PASSION OF THE RECORD NO MATTER THE PRICE YOU DONT GET TO PLAY THEM OR WORSE BY A LOAD OF REISSUE STUFF AND CALL YOURSELF A SOUL BOY/GIRL I WANT TO HAVE NIGHTS LIKE IN THE BEGINING THAT IT WAS EXCITING TO BE THERE AND WANT TO TRY AND OWN SOME OF THE RECORDS YOU HERED ON THE NIGHT I HAVE SPOKEN TO PETE SMITH ABOUT THIS AS THERE ARE NO REAL SOUL NIGHTS THAT CATOR FOR THE LIKES OF MYSELF ANY MORE I AM 57 NOT 27 THEM DAYS ARE OVER FOR ME I CAN JUST MAKE IT TO KEELE 3 TIMES A YEAR AND THAT TO IS NOT AS WELL SUPPORTED BY THE WEST MIDLANDS CROWD UNLESS YOU CALL 15 A REPRESENTATION I DONT LETS MAKE THINGS HAPPEN AND NOT JUST TALK ABOUT WHAT WE WANT AND MISS DAVE KIL
  21. IF I CAN REMEMBER RIGHTLY FIRST OF THIS WAS A OLD MUSIC INDUSTRY SCAM THAT HAS RUN FOR YEARS PUTTING A SELF PENNED B SIDE ON A 45 AS HALF THE ROYALTIES GO TO THE WRITTER SO GLORIE WOULD ONLY GET A SMALL IF NO PERCENTAGE OF THE RECOREDS PROFFITS AND THE MONEY ALWAYS GOES TO THE WRITER/PRODUCER FIRST, AND IN THE 6ts MOST ARTIST WERE PAID AT THE TIME FOR THE SESSION SAY $200 AND NO MORE THIS WAS THE PRACTICE IN jAMACA DAVE BARKER ONLY GOT £200 FOR DOUBLE BARRAL EVEN THOUGH IT MADE UK No1 DESMOND RILEY POCKETED ALL THE CASH, SEEMS UNFAIR WELL OF COURSE IT IS, THATS WHY SO MANY UK COVERS OF SOUL RECORDS IN THE 6ts HAD THE GROUPS OWN SONGS ON THE B SIDE RIPPING OF THE BLACK ARTIST IN THE US TWICE? AS FOR THE SOUL STOP B SIDE I AM SURE THAT IT WAS SOME LOCAL PETERBOURGH GROUP THAT KEN COX USED AND PAID THEM ABOUT £100 FOR THE COPY RIGHT AS NO ONE WOULD BE BUYING THE RECORD FOR THE B SIDE AND HE WOULD ONLY HAVE TO GIVE ED COBB THE WRITER NOT EVEN A QUATER, THE MAN TO ASK IS IAN LAVINE AS A WRITER AND PRODUCER OF A MORE QUALATIVE SOUND? DAVE KIL
  22. YEARS AGO BACK IN THE 7ts i USED TO WORK AS A ROADIE AND AS SUCH GOT TO WORK WITH MANY SOUL ACTS AS THE DID UK TOURS. IN 1976 I HAD THE LUCK TO DO THE UK TOUR WITH KOOL & THE GANG WORKING ON THE LIGHTS AND STAGE EFFECTS IF YOU SAW THEM I PROVIDED THE FOG ON THE STAGE, AS THE TOUR WAS 9 WEEKS LONG GOT TO NO THE BAND VERY WELL AND GOT A REALLY GOOD INSITE TO THE US RECORDING WAYS AND HOW THINGS WERE DONE AS YOU ARE AWARE THERE IS A LINK BETWEEN THE GROUP WITH ED KYSER IN THE MID TO LATE 6TS AND AS I PLAYED A TAPE ONE NIGHT IT HAD GERRY & PAULS CAT WALK & ROBBY LAWSONS BURNING SENSATION THEY FREAKED OUT THAT SOME BRITISH GUY WAS PLAYING STUFF THAT WAS SO CLOSE TO THEM AND THE ROOTS OF KOOL AND THE GANG. THERE STAGE ROADIE/MoC WAS A GUY CALLED DONALD YOU CAN HERE HIM ON OPEN SESME. HE AND KOOL THE BASS PLAYER WERE HAVING A SMOKE ONE NIGHT AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT ALL UP AND COMING POTENTIAL SINGERS WHERE GIVEN A 10inch DUB PLATE WITH 6 INSTRAMENTLES ON THIS WAS COMMON PRACTICE AT MOTOWN AND CHESS DURING THE 6ts, FOR YEARS I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERD IF THE IS A INSTRAMENTLE OF JUST LIKE THE WHEATHER/LOVE REPUTATION AND WHY DOES PEOPLE LIKE ADY KEV ROBERTS ect NOT LOOK FOR THEM ON TAPE? AND DOES A ISSUE EXIST AS A DEMO OR ACCITATE THAT IS A LAGIT COMPANY RECORDING? ANY INFO ON THIS OR STUDIO INST DISCS WOULD BE WELL RECIEVED DAVE KIL
  23. I found 2 Demos in the Salvation Army shop in Wolerhampton 50p each about 8yrs ago left 1 copy in John and Malcoms shop in Willinhall I think Niel Rushton bought it any way Malcom gave me £80 for it. Has there been many found since? I have both UK DEMO & issue as I collect UK product First I would defanently say the rareist is the issue which is rarely seen and by a long way price wise worth over a £100+ however if you are new to the game of collecting UK soul buy the DEMO as it looks better and is far cheaper DAVE KIL
  24. Thanks to both of you for your quick responces I am getting to like this site The KIng Bees 45 was as far as I no fist played around 76ish for a short time at Peterborough/ St ives I rate it as quite rare however there seems no demand for it in these days but I still would say its worth £30+ and as for Van Macoy how could I forget? DAVE KIL
