  4. Yes you are right in saying these early clubs were MOD clubs, however there was a high amount of R%B soul and Motown plated at the also SKA and certain pop R&B and even groups like the Beach Boys got played, if my memory serves me well my visits to the Wheel in 69 the music policy was not dissimilar to the Flamingo with the exception that in London clearly thing become funky-er and at the wheel artist like the Drifters were more popular I would say the rare soul element was around this time 67/8 and that by 68/69 in London the new Jamaican rhythm of reggae was the in thing and Taylor made for the bovver boy style of youth culture that although short lived got a lot of people more interested in obscure aspects of black music and in the same way I speak for myself here that by 71/72 lead me back to the allnighter scene in the North which had blossomed into a rare soul scene and what become known as Northern soul. A statement that could only been made by someone from the south as the north in those days meant as the saying goes any were north of Watford, I personally only know very few people from the south who were at the start of what is know as the rare soul scene in those days in particular MICK SMITH who lived less than a mile from me and by the time we were first DJing together in 71/2 his records were just amazing to here and his knowledge of soul could not be challenged, I believe this is because he never got into the reggae scene that was really big in our area and his focus was firmly into the rare underground soul scene DAVE KIL

I have had my copy for years, I have owned several DEMOS which is rare on its own but the issue much rareer, however DEMOS allways look better to my eyes, as to value WHAT DO YOU THINK ITS WORTH DAVE KIL
  10. Hi..Just a reminder to you all a lot of stuff issued in the UK in the 7ts are in most cases 1st UK issues MCA, JAY BOY LONDON BRUNSWICK GRAPEVINE ext, although there were some 2nd issues most of the 7ts stuff is rarer than you think especially as DEMOS, before EBay and the like when collecting was an adventure into secret locations it took me ages to locate items like Jimmy Conwell JAY BOY DEMO, and when I found THE LARUE, MCA DEMO it was like finding gold, I particualy remember try to collect the DISCO DEMAND DEMOS..all I am saying if you collect UK singles there are many sounds that are over looked because the stock copy is not rare..but clearly the demos are just try buying a original FRANK WILSON PICTURE SL DEMO? even after many reissues and boots it still fetches good ££$$£ even copies with Factory Sample stickers are very rare I have only seen 1 and that's in my collection and don't even think that anybody can put a fake sticker on, but mine ain't fake. DAVE KIL

  15. it looks very much to me an old EMI Disk with a very old photo copy of the demo lable, but years ago at Wiganpoeple were mugged of all the while in loads of ways, my fav way of buying was to get the kids walking around the bar area with there 45 box whip through the records if i spotted a couple of rare ones in a box of boots i would say what do you want for the whole box this worked for me 9x out of 10 as thay say DAVE KIL
  16. To me my fav has to be the Eddie Foster Do I Love You (indeed I do) IN records IN6326B black label? with all the differant boots and 3 differant TMGs the initial boot is still a classic of Memory Lane at the CASINO?Have you got a copy? DAVE KIL
  17. Sue Lynn Dont - Pity Me is a rare northern pop record and it hardly belongs in my collection and is only there because it was a must have sound in the 8ts price wise £125+ I guess however if you like Northern pop try getting a copy of Girl by Derek Lee on Parlaphone R5468 its a true stomper that was never played at Wigan DAVE KIL
  18. The Gorden Gin Theme is excellant and one of if not the shortest Northern sound and very rare, it was played in Wolves circa 72 defanatly a UK collectors Jem and it still sounds good today value wise def not a sale item? DAVE KIL
  19. I think that the Fathers Angels are at least great Philadephia musitions who are better know as the Virtue backing band on many norther classics and later as MFSB the backing behind many great tune and also its rareaty as a UK single and sounds good to my ear holes but this is about yours and if you dont like it thats fine by me, DAVE KIL
  20. Hi all I have to say I have so many faces number 1 has always been Green Onions? by Booker T & the MGs as it is for most of us old gits.. However and the list is endless with such classics as Rat Race, Walking the Duck, Afternoon on a Rhino and Even Choc-ice is in there as the first time I heard it played was by Ian Levine at an all dayer at the Cats Whisker Burnley 74. my favourite is a semi instrumental by Bert Keyes that I got of Mick smith in 73..my number 1 should be the Bari Tack but that's No 2. No 1 is also a record from Mick bout in late 72 THE INNOCENT BYSTANDERS class sound FRANTIC ESCAPE That I still have on RED & WHITE ATLANTIC DEMO over the years I have had 2 Pam-line copies orange & green being far rarer but my original copy is the one I love to play and would never sell. Walking the Duck is No 3/.....there are a few naff ones as I have never had it or heard it as it would make me spew is the Dave Mcclure Disco Demand SOUNDS of LANCASHIRE version of SLICED TOMATOES/ I will enjoy this list and how it progresses DAVE KIL
  21. As you may no I have have had a close association with Mick S for many years, The classic You Just Don't Know was believed to be recorded in the UK PYE studios as hence we have a Demo and Stock copy and it was not for many years that the US west coast Parkway DEMO was Found? as there is no east coast copy I have always assumed this was pressed purley for promotional reasons after the UK recording was made I have a similar issue about Ray Pollards DRIFFTER & A SAD THING as I own a few BILLBOARDS and in 66 the Alan Freeman article clearly states that Ray had recently been to London and laid down a few tracks, he mentions the Drifter & A Sad Thing as both being recorded at Mada Vale, as this record the Drifter had a few copies made by other EMI artists this could be true and the drifter is in fact one of the best UK soul records of all time?to prove this we need to know when the US copy came out before or after the UK, but even this does not %100 prove my case? DAVE KIL
  22. Lady in the Red Dress the gaylords on doctor bird was a BIG TWISTED WHEEL RECORD DAVE KIL
  23. i I forgot to put the in the Chicago vocals the Butler Bros Jerry & billy the Major himself Gene Chandler Marvin Smith Curtis Mayfield and on the Rock Steady early Reggae Pat Kelly, Alton Ellis & the Flames, and the UniqueS all records by them are classics HOWEVER THE MOST FAMOUSE VOICE AFTER GIVING IT MUCH THOUGHT? IT HAS TO BE THE GREATEST BLUES , R&B SINGER FROM DETRIOT MICHIGAN THE ONE AND ONLY Mr JOHN LEE HOOKER? BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!? WHAT A VOICE DAVE KIL
  24. Hi a good one? Aretha Franklin by far the greatest female soul singer even on ballads and she is almost talking a song its pure magic I would love to see her live. as for male there are so many Marvin Gaye Sam Cooke Walter Jackson Wilson Picket But on record Stand By Me by Spyder Turner is one of my faves but all time record after record and for all his great songs it must be Jackie Wilson however in true rare soul collectors mind set I could easy say the same for Otis Redding I no these are predictable but they are the all the kings of soul DAVE KIL
  25. Hi 1st boot was pale green next was a shocking pink and there have been more boots in fact I may have put these in the wrong way round it does not matter 1st boot late 73.
