  1. Thanks everyone, most helpful. I went for the Swanflight 100, the records will be safe now as long as I don't get pissed and leave them on a bus! Ady
  2. Can't find a decent one on Amazon or Ebay Ady
  3. There have been 79 schools of thought on the George Jackson issue and it's been on and off ever since it came out. However ony rouce and Dean Rudland played it to George when they met him and he said he wasn't on lead but is on the backing vocals, so he's there somewhere. He couldn't remember who the lead was. We press 400 copies of the single approx. I agree with Russ about the Judy Clay and also believe its flip, Johnny Taylor's version of Please Let Me In is magnificent too, both sides could go massive one day.
  4. Kent's memory ain't the best but I'll ask. I had a feeling the guys in the photo were just local chaps who looked cool, not particularly musicians
  5. Oi, Russ didn't play a CD set, we didn't have one set up.
  6. It would depend on the crowd that was in and the theme of the night and the history of the venue. I'll be playing a different set at Lifeline to Sunday night at Cleethorpes.
  7. That's the one, I think Sam was playing it recently. Has yours got the BT on the flip? Mine's an uncatalogued one with a funky flip, not sure if they're the same version.
  8. Is it biggish for Sam yet? Should I spin it at Lifeline or does anybody else play it up there?
  9. Could anyone loan a very good or better copy to Ace for dubbing please? Ta Ady
  10. My mate Denbo just told me about how a big downloading type company was claiming all sorts of copyrights that hadn't been claimed by anyone else and was getting them registered as owners on You Tube to get the revenue from them. I was worried this was related.
  11. No worries Bob, we don't need them for the current project. What the hell's this about? How can a company remove an image they don't own the copyright to? The label design and wording is owned by Kent Harris.
  12. I don't think any of them are Aileen Frances and the Francettes, it was some wrong discographical info. I think it's either or. Would love to see your alternate Besche design Bob
  13. One last try, there must be a few copies lying about. Ady
  14. Thanks, but that's the only one I don't need!
  15. I'm guessing these are all pretty hard.
  16. Thanks Robb, it turns out we own the master as part of the Bernie Besman deal for the Sensation label. You buy John Lee Hooker and you get girl group as a bonus! there were a couple of unissueds too. Any chance of sending the scans to me as an attachment for future use please. Is there a story to how and where you picked this one up? Ady
  17. Anyone got it, or the Kentone one by the Francettes?
  18. I'd love to see any of their 45s except Romark 1006 and 106; Where Did You Stay Last Night, Someday I Won'T Be Blue.
  19. No and it's just as well it didn't come out on a Kent 45 or I'd be in for a Lifeline lynching!
  20. Incidentally I've noticed Butch playing Toni & The Showmen recently. We put it out on Kent 4 years ago because of the demand for it (and we own the label) and it's still available. If Butch can go with a sound like that that is in the shops, I don't see why other DJs can't carry on playing their originals of sounds that have been re-released. At OVO dos which is mainly the venues they attend, nobody is gonna be playing the reissues. However I'm more than happy to play the Hopkins Bros at a general soul party or evening piss-up do (not the likes of Solid Hit) and maybe a dancer will enjoy it, ask what it is, look into the story behind it and be a convert to the scene or at least enjoy some of it. Stranger things have happened.
  21. Unfortunately Ian there are more examples of dealers paying next to nowt for an artists old records that they're not bothered with any more.
  22. Hi Nev, At Kent we put out music that is rare (from a demand point of view) and also music that is good but unavailable and will often spotlight artists with no big rareties at all. The recent Paul Kelly, O C Tolbert, Maxine Brown, Apollas, Etta James, Swamp Dogg, Bettye Swann and Doris Troy CDs aren't full of in demand rareties. Even on vinyl we put out singles by Millie Jackson, Luther Ingram, Trini Lopez, Jackie Lee that aren't particularly currently "hot". We do put out rare records too and treat the artists and owners as well as we possibly can do, I could give you a list of people we know and admire who are very happy with our treatment of them. As Dean says isn't it better it happens this way than wait for the bootleggers who will cream all the top sales and probably make it financially unviable for a legitmate release to come out. I have to tell artists or label owners, oh we'll only be doing that on CD now because the 45 has been booted so you'll be getting a third of the money you would have got. It's not a good conversation. Ady PS I know you're very fair minded, I just wanted to quote your post for the specific point.
  23. Next batch of Kent Selects after this.
  24. It's different to the Popsike copies and looks dubious. I don't think it's one we control though
  25. Humphrey Stomp's crap Dave! His old friend John Boland can be found here on SS, particularly in the reminiscences section. I asked him about Jeff and he hadn't heard from him in decades.
