  1. Alec reckons it's a different Penny Lewis on Ripple Blast. Dorothy Morrison was married to Herman Henry the group leader of the TKOs but never sang with them.
  2. I'll run it by Alec Palao who met the group a few times. Thanks for the input.
  3. Super but what was he doing with the ladies with a name like that? Maybe that was the start of his residency? Lemme know what the flyers reveal. Cheers Ady
  4. Yep Princella Penny Lewis. Mind you if you're gonna ask about it let's have a proper scan not a bootleg!
  5. Him and the said DJ ain't got the foggiest. They narrowed it down to the 20th century though.
  6. Good man Chalky, I had a feeling you'd be able to help. If you can find the first poster with him on that would be great. Ta
  7. Speaking of Butch, does anyone on here have any idea when he started at the 100 Club. I think it was after Keb. Ady
  8. Thanks Russell, I'm slightly wiser now. Ady
  9. He's so out of it he thinks he lives in japan!
  10. Wilson Picket also actually sang Soul Dance # 3. His was credited to Jerry Wexler, Carl Holmes is to himself.
  11. I'm sorry Marc, you're rather easily convinced. There can't be many records John Anderson has said he's not had a 100 copies of and I think that was only second or third hand reporting anyway. Because Richard Searling bought one from him does not confirm that John had 100 it just confirms that John had at least one. Ady
  12. Bob Riley was a major Nashville songwriter so I think that backs up the Nashville rather than Florida origins of Reatha. Clarence Reid would have recorded for Dial in that city too and it's Tree publishing from Nashville and Dot recorded hundreds of records there so a bit of a no-brainer really.
  13. Whoops I've only just played mine and I've done exactly what Benji warned me about and used the underdub version of the Sandpipers! It actually sounds pretty good to me but its a total mistake which I'll put right for Vol 2. Many apologies to Sandpipers fans. The rest of it sounds rather good! Jack Ashford gave us some terrific photos to include
  14. It's a bargain at the moment then!
  15. It ain't out until Monday. Gimme a break!
  16. Back to Adam! I think his strengths are that he's a natural DJ as well as a soul fan. Love's being on stage and entertaining. He enjoys the music passionately and that comes accross. I think it was good that he was more on the modern edge as the record collecting and rialries of collectors on that part of the scene are not as intense as on the 60s end of it and there is more camaraderie and genuine enthusiasm in finding new sounds for those people. The 60s end is so intense that I think a lot of DJs aren't happy if a rival finds a brilliant new sound ahead of them; they probably don't even enjoy it knowing the credit will go to an arch rival. Adam has also always remembered his roots and his love of early Northern and 60s mod club soul. I think some on the modern scene forsook those sides for a while. So his ability to throw a few of them into a set or even do a full set of them stands him in good stead to the varied tastes of punters on the scene nowadays. In fact with the likes of Just Soul and Village and Majestic Soul, you could say the modern scene is now approaching his sort of approach more than ever. I know Sean Hampsey was a big influence on him from the Rotherham dos where he really got going.
  17. Yep Alex, probably same time next year. There'll be some Pied Piper 45s out in March with more to follow. Cheers Ady
  18. I got introduced to Paul Simenon by Gaz last time i went there. Nice bloke but both of us wondered why we were being introduced to each other!
  19. I used to in 1980 when it was the best black rock and roll disco I'd ever heard. It's still fun, too much reggae and a live band for me but I think he still plays some of the rockin' stuff. An interesting little soho dive with a tiny dancefloor
  20. Bloody hell, utterly brilliant and next time I see Tommy I'm gonna prostrate myself at his feet. Very Nicholas Brothers. Yeah the Northants and harboro nighters I went to in 1969 had the blokes dancing in circles and taking their turn in the centre, you could also dance on your own and do your own thing. I loved that as otherwise you had to dance and try and chat up a girl which ruined the musical moment.
  21. I was just referring to what you had stated there Robb
  22. Thanks Robb, That is most helpful in building the picture of Detroit's recording scene. I'll look at the SDF feature too. You mentioned Atlantic in an earlier post, whiuch was that? Ady
  23. Fantastic reading Robb, thanks so much. One point is Luther Ingram Oh Baby was recorded in Nov 1964 in NYC. Also is there a list of the Correc Tone sides on other labels anywhere? Ady
