  1. One or two black Americans were involved along the way
  2. The film industry didn't KTF and should rightly be highly embarrassed about how they have handled the film from start to finish. They should KOKO
  3. But what do people want? 7s, occasional CD tracks, sprinkled among vocals, or a dedicated instrumental CD? I'M sure there will be some who don't want them on a CD too
  4. I must admit to being a bit blasé about backing tracks of great vocals. We have a lot of Pied Piper instrumentals, I put a couple on the first CD but did not do more as I felt it was short changing customers. Also when I've played them out I get a reasonable response but nowt as keen as you lot on here. However if there is interest and demand, I could put them out on other comps or even use as flips of Pied Piper 45s. 'I'm Coming Home' is impressive as is 'I Can't Hold On', 'Hold On To My Baby' and the Dynamics 'I Need Your Love' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3bl6I78s8U
  5. We have both the Kent and the Stardom release down as 1st Dec 1967. I would say that was definite in the Kent case but not sure how we got the Stardom release date so wouldn't necessarily say that was correct.
  6. Can you send me a link please, I can't find anything on the Juno site
  7. Rod, it used to be Stuart Marconi because he lived in Wigan; at least this bloke had a dance.
  8. I too became a punk and that felt more rebellious
  9. It's a good article with a few odd bits in it. My main disagreement with it and the now accepted view of Northern is that I got into it for the excitement of the music and scene, I didn't feel rebellious, just a bit naughty for necking caps. I'm still fed up with the geographical location of it all, here its narrowed down to Lancashire, not even the old industrial North cliche
  10. No idea, but if you can't remember, I'd say you definitely went
  11. Sorry, no chance for October with clearances, early next year hopefully
  12. Fen men
  13. We're on it already and have finally tracked down a handful of key recordings that Dave had been trying for from day one. Any suggestions that we may have missed would be welcome though, he wrote and talked about a lot of stuff and there are many friends of his out there who knew him better than I did.
  14. I also forgot to add that in 1963 he was L B Wilson on Vivid singing 'Don't' another Bob Crewe production
  15. I forgot about the Beach scene plays. The 67 Atco release was just a re-release of two of his earlier Atco sides; Danny had no idea why. I'll find his age and post it up later.
  16. I received an email from Danny Cannon's (Lenny's real name) neighbour and helper who I had been corresponding with to tell me that he passed away peacefully in hospital on September 27th. His record 'Across The Street' was one of the foundation stones of the first 6TS nights championed by Randy Cozens who had first heard it in London's mod clubs in the mid 60s. He included it in his Mod Top 100 and it became a soul anthem for the early 80s mods. It still exemplifies the "Cool" of soul in the 60s for me. It was also a massive record on the Popcorn scene. Sadly Danny's manager and producer Bob Crewe had died only a fortnight before. Danny worked with the highly talented producer throughout his solo career which lasted from his first of two ABC releases in 1961, to his second Atco release in 1964. He also recorded a 45 for Smash 'Mr Moonlight' which has Northern Soul devotees. He had previously been with the vocal group the Vibraharps who recorded on Beech and Atco. I got to speak with Danny once and he was a friendly, charming man, though suffering from the late stages of cancer. he was so pleased that 'Across The Street' was still alive in Europe. 18. That's right, it's all coming back to me. Dee Irwin must have switched coasts too
  19. He was another who flitted between those cities. No idea on the issue
  20. Yeah, much more Northern than Modern despite being 71. Probably suffered from the weird name. It's interesting it's Jesse Herring on what otherwise looks like an L A production. He must have flitted between LA and NYC
  21. Thanks people, sorry it took me a while to let you know problem solved. Thanks for the extra info too. I wish I could Dave but it's my weekend with Sonny so no chance I'm afraid; it'll be a memorable night.
  22. Well put Martin, he was a real southern gentleman and talented too.
