  1. Agreed not particularly, but pretty! I doubt he'd know much about the Hopkins Brothers but probably has a good grasp on Kool & The Gang, Marvin, Fatback Band, Patrice Rushen etc. I don't like the celeb presenters idea much either but if we do have to have them which seems to be the case, I'd rather have ones that enjoy and have experienced the music rather than Stuart Maconie (who I actually like as a presenter) but don't see the point of him doing a Northern show because he came from Wigan. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and he was a fan at some stage.
  2. Actually I find Craig pretty knowledgeable. He's undoubtedly enthusiastic, knows his 70s mainstream soul very well and loves and respects the music. I think his DJ voice is Ok and a necessary bit of showbiz for a national show. I think his show is meant to be mainstream as opposed to the Northern ones which are by definition specialist. Sharleen frequently came down the 100 club in the 90s, let's hope the show reflects this with an hour of beat ballads!
  3. Still needed. Ta Ady
  4. The reaction from the soul fans when I got to Cleethorpes after a tortuous 24 hours and a long miserable drive
  5. I could defo use the writer credit and possibly either an Accent or European Pic Cover scan please- in hi res-not off t'internet. ta Ady
  6. I don't think he's got the internet either!
  7. Ravins and Margaret Little, I'd imagine
  8. Not heard it but an encouraging notion
  9. Last week I was sent a stunner by a West Coast group that promises to be as popular as Paramount Four. It is mid 70s but is good enough to be big in Modern and main rooms, it has a fair funk quotient but is super danceable for anyone with legs on either side of the body; or one and a good hopping style.

Pretty sure he did do Happy, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard
  11. Funnily enough the LP version might be more soulful though
  12. The single version is very different to theLP, even I can manage a hobble to it
  13. You're half-sharp Neil! Funny to see an Etta James download advertised on this page; I doubt it'll be on it
  14. No Greg still has it, that was just a random selection of popular tracks I heard
  15. That's the sort of stuff I was after. Like Mr Big Shot last year
  16. Judging by the dance floor last night The Snake ain't in the charts but You're Ready Now is a smash!
  17. I always thought it was a bit of a jerky rhythm when it was last big around 1970; great record though. I'd be happy if it spread. Maxine Brown did a good version produced by Otis Redding
  18. Well that's encouraging at least and I know a lot of people have had acetates done of Etta James and rightly so.
  19. Anyone got an Ex/M they could loan? Ady
  20. Nope, hopefully I should know early next year
  21. Nancy Wilcox there's only three known copies but the Paramount 4 should be played as an anniversary 45 or as the Kent re-release; that is if the DJ digs the music rather than the rarety. Thanks
  22. The Ravins Your Love Is What I Want Demoristic The Perfections Just Can't Leave You Acetate Nancy Wilcox He'll Be Leaving You Pied Piper-Mick H and Ginger have original acetates of this so does it get spun much in t'North? I've not included any recent spins that haven't fully taken off yet. It's just records that have seemed to be very popular this year from my position at the bar.
