  1. Very interesting that he says Dave Hamilton played lead on Boom Boom. The session details list another guy but Joe and Dave said otherwise
  2. Fabulous; what a giant of music Joe was. Unassuming but so talented and prolific. We’ll done catching all that Graham; brilliant memory too.
  3. No, they’re a group containing Vessie Simmons from the West Coast, produced by George Semper who changed their name to the Sherrills when they got their wrists slapped
  4. Great info, that’s when I’d have guessed it was recorded. Now to establish if it’s Vessie singing? I reckon she used it later and “forgot” to credit George Semper
  5. Very interesting, can you let me know where you read that please? Correct and quite similar
  6. Curtis Colbert and a lass whose name I’ve forgotten. I think it’s on the LP cover
  7. Before people go nuts on the price for the new 100 Club anniversary disc, I must point out that by error it was pressed at the factory where we did 4 or 5 that we later found there were excess copies on sale on Ebay and Discogs - Sandra Richardson, Smith Brothers, Lorraine Chandler, Nancy Wilcox and possibly June Jackson and the Cavaliers. Those are still for sale for £18-£50 on Discogs so if the same has happened again, there may be a sharp drop in price in a few weeks if copies sneak out.
  8. Same lyrics but different music to Vessie Simmons I Can Make It On My Own
  9. Could anyone send me an MP3 dub from a Vee Jay copy of the last 20 seconds please. I need to work out a fade. Thanks Ady ady.croasdell@acerecords.com
  10. 6TS 42ndAnniversary Dance Saturday Sept 18th10pm-6am The 100 Club has been granted the TEN license to hold the dance but be aware the police are insisting on bag searches and body pat downs on entry to the club as one of the terms and conditions. The air conditioning that was largely out of action for the August dance has now been fixed. Given the current Covid situation, we are going to restrict the crowd to 250 tickets. Tickets will be allocated to winners of a ballot for the event. If you haven’t sent in your email details for the draw, please do so we will finalise it on Thursday. Send the email addresses to ady.croasdell@btinternet.com Matt is passing on all the ones he has received since I was away on holiday; no need to panic! We won’t be able to acknowledge we have received each of them, but we will let you know if you were successful or not. The eventual ticket price will be £25 which translates to £26 PayPal, but await the result of the ballot please. Cheers Ady & Matt
  11. Yes, that is the case
  12. Kent don’t. When we did, like the Art Gentry 12”, they went to DJs
  13. Very interesting. Sing in a smooth, sophisticated style that loses the soulful aspect. Pushing to be the next Sinatra. Enjoyable but the backing vocals and subtle rhythms and production make it the gem the record is
  14. Particularly as Dean’s first European show was Cleethorpes in 2003 not Prestatyn in 2001 - I think that was 2010. Andy Rix found him and I brought him over
  15. Thanks, I must have picked up mine shortly after
  16. Only played it a couple of times, really like it but it didn’t fit in with the rest of my set at the time. Paid a few Bob for it - unusual for me
  17. Sorry, I only touched the surface; Dean or Tony May know
  18. Hi Lattrice, If you email me at ady.croasdell@acerecords.com I'll send you copies of the CDs we issued the Cavaliers tracks on. Great info on Mickey Robb. Is there a story behind that? I see one of the other writers Joe Marls had some slight involvement at Motown later.
  19. I found the Cavaliers tapes at RCA in NYC apart from We Go Together which turned up in Shelley Haims tapes. I first played Ooh It Hurts Me at the 100 Club off a newly made acetate. OOS issued it some years later as a 45 - without so much as a nod of recognition or a promo, I might add!
  20. Ahead of the inevitable government announcement this afternoon, we have cancelled the July 3rd 6TS 100 Club all-nighter. Any tickets already bought will be held over for the August 14th all-nighter; if anyone needs a refund email Ady at ady.croasdell@btinternet.com We are not expecting many extra tickets to become available and if there are any, they will be offered to the people on the waiting list for July 3rd tickets first. If any more come up for grabs we will announce it down the line but don’t really expect any. We are not issuing any tickets to new customers at this point which is tough on people who wish to attend, but we cannot exceed the allowed numbers, particularly at such a sensitive time. Please don’t try and book tickets for future dates, we will only sell them once announced. Thanks for your understanding Ady & Matt www.6ts.info Thanks Mike
  21. Did it actually come out?
  22. The record company that licensed it would not have known where to send the royalties as he was not registered anywhere by then
  23. He was also a constant at the very first 6ts dances and became our semi-official photographer who Randy affectionately dubbed Don Cluck for that role
  24. A hugely respected promoter whose RSG dances recruited so many new souls to the scene in the 80s. It’s a great loss. Ady
  25. Can’t remember that. But sounds like me lol, I don’t ever REMember Ben commenting on it and unless a rogue acetate turns up the other unissued are probably destroyed in the fire. Pretty sure this was one of the three tracks cut at the Where’s The Girl 45 session
