  1. Hi Albert, This is nice. Emmanuel used to work with Dave Hamilton and is a minister and gospel singer these days. did you get anything else with it? Ady
  2. Ta Stuart. I know David Meikle from Glasgow photographed a lot of the old studios too. Maybe he collaborated, I'll ask.
  3. Super bit of info. Any idea where you can see it in greater detail? I can only get the photos really small
  4. It looks like there was only a Metro release and as it is an MGM subsid it has been described as an MGM release so at one stage I thought we were talking about two different releases. I've managed to locate a copy now thanks
  5. Pmed you George, thanks very much. Still hunting the Dream Girls on Metro which apparently is actually MGM as they were in 1959 Ady
  6. I was indeed and I couldn't agree more
  7. Does anyone have either of these early 60s releases? We need to borrow for dubs if possible. Freddie & The Parliaments - Darlene - Twirl 1003 The Dream Girls - Crying In The Night - Metro 20029 (Twirl recording) Thanks Ady
  8. Yes Tony, we've cleared most of the tracks, probably out mid-year. Cheers Ady
  9. Thanks Mike and Jordan hopefully it will give it more looks. I spent half an afternoon on this when I should have been doing my deadline stuff! Same Old Thing is such a great recording I didn't mind replaying it about 30 times
  10. He was a dapper Happy chappy
  11. Ha, I've just found this in my notes to the first Mirwood CD, so I knew about it but didn't fully appreciate the differences. "Mirwood then made a mistake with the next single, and instead of going with one of the new songs, plumped for the remake of ‘The Bounce’ backed with their version of ‘The Duck’. It failed to chart and by the time their next single came out in early 1967, the damage had been done, despite it being the excellent double sider ‘The Same Old Thing’ / ‘I’ll Do A Little Bit More’. A Mirwood release sheet of the time had ‘The Same Old Thing’ listed as by Walter Ward, the group’s lead singer and in fact the only member on the recording. It was to have had an instrumental version of the song on the flip by Walter Ward’s Band. Though that wasn’t as imaginative as the eventual release, it would have gone down a storm at the Casino! Some copies of ‘The Bounce’ single are actually an alternate, sparser version of ‘The Same Old Thing’, which certainly wouldn’t have helped it to sell either." The idea of a vocal / instrumental Mirwood release as by Walter Ward instead of the Olympics is fascinating too. And it was covered in a contract for another two Jackie Lee titles Tin Pan Alley and Anything You Want, Any Way You Want It which of course were unreleases till Soussan booted the second as I'll Do Anything and we put out Tin Pan Alley on our Jackie Lee "Mirwood Masters" CD.
  12. Indeed the most noticeable difference is the lack of tambourines and other percussion on this version as well as the absence of strings in the second break in particular. I agree about liking the stripped down version. Both are great and we put out the correct 45 take but I'll certainly get a good tape copy of this on a comp soon now. As to the legitimacy of the release and whether Soussan may be involved, I don't think so. The master tape box actually had the title written down incorrectly as 'The Duck and has it down to be the A side so it really was a monumental cock up as the A/B labels are the wrong way round too. Obviously sent to mess with our heads 50 years on. What I particularly like about this version is the way the girls sing "way" in "brand new way", they hold the note just a little bit longer so the B vox are different, whether the lead is is hard to know, I'd guess not as I can't spot anything specific like the "way" but some singers could replicate a performance take after take if they'd rehearsed it. Thanks to all for pointing this out.
  13. Thanks for clearing that one up Mick, I'll PM you. It sounds like it's just an underdub; very interesting though. Ady
  14. I didn't know about that one but is it a different mix or EQ? Like t'other chap any idea where we could hear it?
  15. You'd have thought she'd have hired someone. Maybe a celeb?
  16. Well if she is a celebrity presenter, she's certainly low profile.
  17. That's terrible, I had no idea Mary had been poorly
  18. It was just a one off visit sponsored by a friend.
  19. Yep, I forgot to mention he's a working DJ so knows what the public at his dances want at least.
  20. Agreed not particularly, but pretty! I doubt he'd know much about the Hopkins Brothers but probably has a good grasp on Kool & The Gang, Marvin, Fatback Band, Patrice Rushen etc. I don't like the celeb presenters idea much either but if we do have to have them which seems to be the case, I'd rather have ones that enjoy and have experienced the music rather than Stuart Maconie (who I actually like as a presenter) but don't see the point of him doing a Northern show because he came from Wigan. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and he was a fan at some stage.
  21. Actually I find Craig pretty knowledgeable. He's undoubtedly enthusiastic, knows his 70s mainstream soul very well and loves and respects the music. I think his DJ voice is Ok and a necessary bit of showbiz for a national show. I think his show is meant to be mainstream as opposed to the Northern ones which are by definition specialist. Sharleen frequently came down the 100 club in the 90s, let's hope the show reflects this with an hour of beat ballads!
  22. Still needed. Ta Ady
  23. The reaction from the soul fans when I got to Cleethorpes after a tortuous 24 hours and a long miserable drive
  24. I could defo use the writer credit and possibly either an Accent or European Pic Cover scan please- in hi res-not off t'internet. ta Ady
