Did we ever discuss how the mispress came about with Me And You Doing The Boogaloo on by mistake. Presumably it was a Soussain job as it was only an LP track on an East Coast LP not a Los Angeles 45.

It looks like there was only a Metro release and as it is an MGM subsid it has been described as an MGM release so at one stage I thought we were talking about two different releases. I've managed to locate a copy now thanks

Ha, I've just found this in my notes to the first Mirwood CD, so I knew about it but didn't fully appreciate the differences. "Mirwood then made a mistake with the next single, and instead of going with one of the new songs, plumped for the remake of ‘The Bounce’ backed with their version of ‘The Duck’. It failed to chart and by the time their next single came out in early 1967, the damage had been done, despite it being the excellent double sider ‘The Same Old Thing’ / ‘I’ll Do A Little Bit More’. A Mirwood release sheet of the time had ‘The Same Old Thing’ listed as by Walter Ward, the group’s lead singer and in fact the only member on the recording. It was to have had an instrumental version of the song on the flip by Walter Ward’s Band. Though that wasn’t as imaginative as the eventual release, it would have gone down a storm at the Casino! Some copies of ‘The Bounce’ single are actually an alternate, sparser version of ‘The Same Old Thing’, which certainly wouldn’t have helped it to sell either." The idea of a vocal / instrumental Mirwood release as by Walter Ward instead of the Olympics is fascinating too. And it was covered in a contract for another two Jackie Lee titles Tin Pan Alley and Anything You Want, Any Way You Want It which of course were unreleases till Soussan booted the second as I'll Do Anything and we put out Tin Pan Alley on our Jackie Lee "Mirwood Masters" CD.

Indeed the most noticeable difference is the lack of tambourines and other percussion on this version as well as the absence of strings in the second break in particular. I agree about liking the stripped down version. Both are great and we put out the correct 45 take but I'll certainly get a good tape copy of this on a comp soon now. As to the legitimacy of the release and whether Soussan may be involved, I don't think so. The master tape box actually had the title written down incorrectly as 'The Duck and has it down to be the A side so it really was a monumental cock up as the A/B labels are the wrong way round too. Obviously sent to mess with our heads 50 years on. What I particularly like about this version is the way the girls sing "way" in "brand new way", they hold the note just a little bit longer so the B vox are different, whether the lead is is hard to know, I'd guess not as I can't spot anything specific like the "way" but some singers could replicate a performance take after take if they'd rehearsed it. Thanks to all for pointing this out.
