I see your point Pete but then you don't get the story, pics and history of the music. I think Kent CD booklets are about 50% of the package and why they ain't cheap and never will be.
If you buy it from the people involved, artist, producer, labelowner, songwriter, publisher etc you would and if you trust the person who bought it from them and so on down the line.
But Billy's answer wouldn't be definitive as he was only the producer, there can be other acetates made by publishers or the label staff for promos for DJs or to get the songs to other acts.
True Steve but it was early 67 and Bell Sound was very active, there could have been all sorts of reasons why an acetate could have been cut there. Was it definitely Philly recorded? Billy would have flitted between Philly and New York and could have used Bell for convenience. It's maybe not likely but definitely possible so the provenance is what really matters.
Plenty of Wand records would have been cut at Bell or maybe it's just a promo for a DJ. It depends on the provenance and how far you can trace it back; and how reputable those people down the line are/were.
On Crash and 'Losing Control' respectively.
Would anyone be kind enough to do a hi-res scan of these two-or just one of 'em. CD or vinyl rewards await the first kind contributor. Ta Ady
Hi Ian, it's a super project but I don't think you should have listed me as assisting in the compiling. All I did was put you right on a couple of licensors. You and Timmy should get the glory.
That's a terrific biography Lorraine and Dave, thanks very much. Everyone who has met Maxine says what a wonderful person she is too with a wicked sense of humour and also values everyone she meets. The video she did with Elaine Constantine in NYC for the Cleethorpes video in the 90s shows her fun side as well as her talent
Yes the best selling comps we've ever done, only Mod Jazz splits off Vol 4 from the other three in sales. In case you missed it we will be doing a Vol 5 later this year. All tracks Dave wanted for the series and hopefully we can find his words on the songs for the sleevenotes.
In the late 70s/early 80s I actually found two copies in a shop in Norwalk, along with 6 copies of the Jackie Day Australian EP and some Spanish ZZ Hill and Etta James, obviously the library copies from the legitimate licensees chucked out by Modern at some stage.
