  1. A very minor point but we've never released a Buddy Smith 45 or CD track. Though he was one half of Chico & Buddy which we have released. And look here Kecksy it's Croasdell not Croasdale!
  2. Tony & I were discussing this over some rather scrumptious Algerian chicken 2 hours ago. It's going ahead but will be a year or so awaiting clearances.
  3. but if you were issuing the music on Cd or vinyl you'd only need clearances for publishing in USA, here you have to register with MCPS and pay the publishing up front unless you're established with them and have a proven track record
  4. So when you mentioned the 1966 release of ICGOTW it was just from info on the net and the Ace info? Has anyone got the record? Fraternity 970
  5. By the early 70s round our way I think the nighters were run until the cops cottoned on to them and they got shut. The membership system was just an attempt to get round the law, I don't think anyone ever challenged the cops, with the drug taking going on it would have been a waste of effort. The membership system we did down the 100 club in the 80s was a joke by the end, we never got challenged as long as people behaved themselves; and they did-ish.
  6. For some reason we don't have the writers for the I Can't Go On This Way side, do you have them or a scan of the 45?
  7. That's a great little find Russell. Yes they are Fraternity recordings but we don't have a tape of the "Star" one so I'll be PMing you! The other side was unreleased until 1966 but we made a mistake on our Ace CD and put the master tape out as was without folding it into mono so you're theory on the bongos is totally correct as it is on a separate track and comes out of the right speaker on its own and the left speaker is as your acetate, the original 1963 recording. As you rightly surmised Fraternity used King's acetate cutting facilities hence the King label. Another contribution to musical history; thanks for sharing.
  8. Yes it was. Last year admittedly! Pied Piper 004 released partly due to featuring in one of Lev's videos
  9. They control Scepter Robb, just an omission on their part.
  10. Yes if nobody puts exclusive in the contract
  11. It's OK if you've found the correct rights holder; experience is a large part of knowing what's what.
  12. Yes, that's licensing. Though if the license holder didn't own the logos and label design you couldn't do that; eg if a production company or artist had licensed their music to another company's label you wouldn't be able to put it out on that label unless further permission was granted from the original label owners or whoever they passed the rights on to.
  13. I'll update when we've got it as good as we can.
  14. It needs a fair bit of work before its playable, if it ever is.
  15. Hold On Help Is On The Way. Anyone ever find a vocal?
  16. Sometimes big bucks, always decent and every sale is accounted for until deleted.
  17. Best wishes for a speedy (maybe not that sort) recovery to Mark from a fellow Kelmarsh and Bletsoe frequenter
  18. Stephen, that's great that you're sticking with OVO and getting good guests. I can think of a dozen in London with great collections who would love to guest. And you can do the role I do and fill in the gaps with all the brilliant oldies and semi-known that are less than a ton each, there 's bundles of them. Book Ivor for your next one and tell him I sent you
  19. My kids reckon I'm a dead ringer for the cowardly lion; little sods
  20. Great story and good luck with the club. I don't see why you would start with OVO and abandon it though. How will that improve the night, weren't your DJs working out for you?
  21. Whither Northern Soul. Me, Elaine C, Richard Searling are gonna be interviewed by Stuart Marconi about the scene tomorrow afto. I'll be wearing my flak jacket.
  22. Was Val the first resident at all nighters? We've got Pat Bleasdale in March and Matt's been on about me having an all girls line-up but I can't get into my dresses any more. I also go for Soulful Cris and Maria Willingham there are some great Spanish girls too but I can't remember their names
