  1. Real name Kenneth Head
  2. He was from Kent, Ohio ironically. I put a fair bit about his RCA sessions in the Larry Banks Story CD and Dave Godin wrote a bit about him in his first Deep Soul Treasures
  3. Sorry I totally disagree. I've got an unreleased LP by Kenny Carter and play it regularly along with his released tracks before and after and on neither of the Blue Rock sides does he have any of Kenny's many vocal inflexions.
  4. Thanks Mark, I'm all sorted now. Ady
  5. That's sad news, she seemed to be a very active FaceBook user with positive messages for her community.
  6. Scan still needed people. Thanks Ady
  7. Thanks folks, that's good because the I'll Be Gone side is all girl which contradicts Steve Propes interviews but this is obviously mainly male. Fascinating tie-ins with Little Johnny Hamilton & The Creators. Incidentally Joe Lawson was also in the Vows on Markay in 1962 before rejoining around 1965/66.
  8. Thanks, I couldn't find it. I'd still like to see a scan if anyone has it. And now I need to hear the flip too because this sounds like a female backing group to me.
  9. Anyone got a soundfile or a scan of I'll be gone side? Quality doesn't matter. ta Ady
  10. I've never heard of the Keep On Moving white labels, I thought it was just Butch with the demo?
  11. Nice record, sounds like Betty Lavette My Man, He's A Loving Man, also Detroit. It suffers from being mid-tempo R&B in parts then jumps to uptempo nearly Northern.
  12. The 100 Club's usually on the Black Hole Of Calcutta end of the spectrum.
  13. Awful news; my condolences to all who knew her. Ady
  14. Indeed and some bright Stafford sparks had a T-shirt with a cat being kicked. The repress is actually great quality, must have been from master tape by Lew Bedell
  15. Yes, Andy Rix got her eventually. I wrote about her in the notes. She's still about and well and a Minister I think; certainly church involved.
  16. I've just heard the nearly finished master and it really is a scorcher, at least as good as Vol 1. One of the highlights is our fellow SS member Lorraine Chandler singing Teddy Randazzo's 'Lost Without You' it's an absolutely stunning ballad that she delivers superbly. It makes you wonder what a major artist she could have become if she had chosen performing above producing and writing. But then we'd have missed out on some wonderful songs and productions.
  17. All of Doni Burdick's recordings seem to be using backing tracks like his out of tune 'Candle' that uses the Dynamics 'I Need Your Love' and 'Whatcha Gonna Do' uses September Jones Chink A Chank Baby. I Have Faith In You is Edwin Starr's backing track and credits the right writers but changes the producers, only 'Open The Door To Your Heart' seems to be a fully legit cover with the proper credits. As many dubious practices as that bloke from Leeds; no they couldn't be could they?
  18. Some were, some weren't Batman knew his stuff as did most of the DJs of course.
  19. It's actually the master tape to 'This Heart Is Lonely' by Rose Batiste that was unreleased until the first Pied Piper CD on Kent. It was then recorded by Rose for Revilot, slightly adjusted to 'I Miss My Baby'-one of the lines from 'This Heart Is Lonely'. Somehow Doni Burdick got hold of it and it was put out on one of Ed Wingate's labels. The producers and writers were totally re-written and somehow it got a Jobete publishing credit. It's as murky as can be but the original version and the sequence of releases is correct.
  20. Possibly, we'd have to ask Batman who is in the Antipodes I think. He was a hard-core nighter goer and knew his sounds from there probably more than B&S
  21. Wonderful soul singer and he could write a good song too.
  22. I don't know about new careers but Maxine Brown and Dean Parrish have worked more since their Cleethorpes appearances. Mary Love since Southport or wherever it was for the Modern scene. Melvin Davis since Prestatyn and Edwin Starr, the Flirtations and Tommy Hunt have earned a few quid. We kept Bettye Lavette simmering and eventually she sang at the inauguration of a President. Doris Troy had a good couple of years work in London after Cleggy too. Sidney Barnes has had a ball since appearing at the Dome. Marva Holiday has got involved in music again, as have the Diplomats. Darrow Fletcher has been able to accept the plaudits of fans and earned some much needed cash. Little Ann had a glimpse of the career she never had.
  23. Elton John did the same with Chess in Watford
  24. Go the Vows thanks to Robb but the Darlings has gone AWOL so anyone with that would be good if Robb's doesn't turn up.
