  1. No it wouldn't, there was only me playing 'em and I only played about 5 at the most and this one isn't anywhere near to the mark. Nice bit of fun ska/Latin though.
  2. I received this today from Ron Barrett Jr, whose father was one of Arthur's closest friends. " For anyone that would care to know, the services for Arthur G. Wright will be held this Saturday, July18, 2015 at The Centinela Valley Center of the Arts located at 14901 Inglewood Avenue, Lawndale California 90260. Arthur's wife of over 50 years, Marlene Wright is one of the sweetest, down to earth women you could ever meet. I can see why their marriage lasted so long. I am sure because of those personality traits she would never make this request, but anyone that enjoyed Arthur's work, or plans to personally attend the services, on behalf of the family, Star Revue would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, a modest cash donation sent directly to Marlene Wright to assist with the services as well as to donate to several Music Based Charities that Arthur was involved in. There will be seating for 1500 at the center, but for those who cannot attend the mailing address is: Marlene Wright:1911 West 156th Street #8, Compton, California 90220." There don't seem to be any PayPal details so if anyone who doesn't have access to a US bank account wants to donate they could email me at ady.croasdell@btinternet.com
  3. Blimey 6 years ago. It's a shame Winston didn't get to hear about it.
  4. I only want new releases that were readily available, not ones that were big soon after release if your everyday punter couldn't buy a copy easily. I know You Sexy Sugar Plum was only a year or so old but you couldn't find it easily. I went into Fantasy's office in NYC trying to get copies. Didn't Charles Johnson used to cost a lot of money when it was big? Similarly I thought Larry Sanders 'On The Real Side' was hard to get for an everyday oik like me who wanted a copy when it was big. I suppose a test of whether they were accessible would be did Blues & Soul's Contempo and perhaps Select A Disc sell them at import prices when they were at their peak.
  5. As a spin-off from the Greg Perry thread, how many big Northern records, as opposed to Modern that later became Northern, were played when recently released and still available. Big ones only please. I think Jackie Moore 'Both Ends Against The Middle' was but Archie Bell 'Here I Go Again' was probably deleted by the time it was played (could well be wrong there), same with Alfie Davison.
  6. Not that I know of. I wrote a bit about his vocal group with HB Barnum which had some great stories and we are working on a CD of his productions and arrangements but put it on hold while he was poorly. He fought the illness at least once and came back but not this time sadly.
  7. Sorry I started this thread off and haven't contributed that much, Cleggy and then catching up after Cleggy got in the way. I think Harry Hippie's post is very informative particularly for me as it concerns the 100 Club. There have certainly been all sorts of characters down those steps of all moral and political hues. There are two points that I must pick up on though, nobody said anything about any racist comments in the 100 Club toilets, only a club in Liverpool in the early 70s is mentioned in that respect. A question for Harry, you said you were wary of the 100 Club toilets, if you had gone to a punk dance of mainly white kids would you have been as nervous then? Did anything ever get said to you and if it didn't, didn't you get less nervous when you experienced no reactions? The second point is Bradley Wiggins came down once that I know of and I only noticed him walking about with a small entourage actually talking to someone on his mobile, so I'm not sure that he really got into the spirit of the thing. Also he didn't pick one soul record on his Desert Island Discs-which was a great programme, he's a terrific character- so I'm not sure if the 100 Club nighters are the right place for him. It's good that Harry and others have made us aware of some of the scene's limitations, I feel that all minorities (which could even include Northern Soul fans) are better accepted in current times and I'm sure some of us will take note of it and act more positively if we see a problem.
  8. A giant of our music died last week aged 78 years. His influence on soul music was immense and we listen to his arrangements and guitar at virtually every night we go out to dance. So sad.
  9. Morecambe seems to get a lot of mentions along the way too
  10. Was it first played? As a 1982 release, maybe everywhere. Was it first of 12" or 7"? Ta Ady
  11. That's sad, he cut some terrific records.
  12. Thanks everyone and a super sound it is too. Yes Sean, assuming Mal's is white a green one. Cheers

  17. I would guess green first but there's no way of knowing for definite.
  18. I seem to remember having one somewhere, probably given by Dave. Does anyone else have one I could borrow as I'll never find mine for yonks. Ta Ady
  19. Thanks folks but I think I'm covered for it now and thanks for the link to the flip which is a great slower number. You were close Docfish but it was actually the LeBaron Taylor side of the Detroit deal that brought this about. The gist of the story will be in the sleevenotes. Cheers Ady
  20. Thanks here's hoping. I've never heard the flip either
  21. I think he grew up in Bexleyheath is that Peckham?
  22. Yes please Kev, that side but just label, maybe send it as a PM attachment and I'll arrange a thank you. Cheers Ady
  23. Anyone got a hi res scan, preferably from a copy they've had, not on line. Ta Ady
