  1. Terrific article thanks. You mentioned L A near the end but not Washington which was an important part of Rays life and closely connected to Jobete in NYC. Not directly relevant of course
  2. We’ve tallied up the ticket sales from the last all-nighter and the 43rd 6TS anniversary all-nighter on September 24th is now sold out. To boost attendance through the year, the tickets have only been on sale at the venue at the nighters and this has helped in keeping the events busy. If you haven’t secured a ticket, then I’m afraid you won’t get in now. There are several tickets from the last nighter that have been purchased that I need to send out in the post, I’ll do this at the end of the week - many apologies but summer holidays, a big birthday and a flat move have slowed things down. Thanks for your continued support, the next nighter after this is on Nov 5th and there is also a special memorial evening dance for Roger Stewart and Sean Adams on Friday Oct 14th 8pm-1am. Tickets are not required for any events except the anniversary nightery, it’s pay on the door otherwise. Ady & Matt www.6ts.info
  3. Actually it's faded early but I found the mastering notes for the 45 so I'm sorted on that now. Ta
  4. Excellent, that looks like it'll do the main job. Just need a hi res scan now. Thanks very much Ady
  5. 4578 yellow/orange label Anyone got a copy? I just need a rough dub and a label scan if possible? Ta Ady
  6. There was a thread on here by Soulgirl85 that Boba contributed to about Jean Shy's I'm A Bad Go-Getter on Chief but the topic was ended for some reason. Does anyone know if Jean's 45 on Starville ever turned up 'I Looked In My Pocketbook'? Also anyone know if Tim & Jean was Jean Shy and Timmy Smith for definite. And if so why was her writer name Key - it's not her real name
  7. Anyone able to send me a hi res (300 dpi) scan of their own 45 please? Presents will be forthcoming. Ta Ady
  8. Glad you enjoyed it, see you Thursday

  10. Dear 6TSer, Since lockdown we have gone from being oversubscribed for tickets, to being poorly attended. The last couple have been quiet; we know the people who went really enjoyed it – especially with the extra dancefloor space – but with West End costs, we can’t subsidise the dances indefinitely. It’s all a bit frustrating when we know we’ll be sold out for the anniversary. Therefore, we have decided that to give the regular all-nighters a boost, we will start selling anniversary tickets at the all-nighters, in person only, up to and including the August one. If there are any left for sale after that, they will be sold by mail order from the following Monday on a first come basis. The first ones will go on sale at the April 2nd all nighter; one per attendee, £25 each, cash only. It’s tough on people who only come to the anniversary, maybe for geographical or personal reasons, but we need to boost the regular nighters. Additionally, we’ve planned some very good DJ line-ups for the rest of the year and don’t forget the London Congestion charge is only 12pm-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays so should not affect 100 Club attendees – though the ULEZ pollution charge on older vehicles is still 24 hours daily - that would mean a double charge unless you time it to enter the zone after midnight. If unsure you can check online if your vehicle is compliant and therefore unaffected by the ULEZ charge. See you at the 100 Club Ady & Matt
  11. WARNING As I feared, when I heard that last year's anniversary single was being pressed at the factory that over-pressed some previous year's 45s, then sold them on through dodgy dealers - a similar thing has happened this time. I took the precaution of marking the singles that we gave out so that I could tell if the records had come through Kent and 6TS or not. Sure enough a few weeks later a copy turned up on Discogs which we bought at the high price and it was not marked. Later another copy turned up by someone who said they had traded it at a record fair and that too was unmarked. We have passed the matter on to the BPI who are investigating and the matter may become a criminal investigation. The perpetrators seem to be laying low or only selling the 45s off in ones or twos at very high prices around £300. Some on Discogs will be genuine records from the nighter but there's no way the buyer can tell so beware. If it goes like the last time this happened the price will drop drastically, as it did with those earlier ones. If you are tempted to buy one, maybe have a look at the other records the seller has for sale and you could work out if it's genuine or not - there's no way of telling for sure though unless you know how they are marked and that has to be kept secret in order to entrap the miscreants. We did not know which factory was pressing them until it was too late.

  12. There’s a few like that. I generally sell em after five years and regret it ten years later
  13. I never said that Popcorn was only played in the day time at clubs. I said “Maybe there were two sides to the scene as my guys didn’t do all nighters, I think the main events were Sunday all dayers” meaning their events. This was in Belgium not Germany so the scenes were probably different
  14. As I said I saw Major Lance at a Popcorn all dayer in Belgium mid 70s
  15. I'm very sorry, it's a total bastard but we've decided to cancel the 100 Club Xmas Party which was due to have taken place on Thursday 23rd December. It's down to the new strain of Covid - working it's way through society at a rate of knots. Several clubs have reported Coronavirus cases shortly after events of this kind. Unsurprisingly, with a few drinks down us and general merriment, it's easy to see how this can happen; the flesh is weak. Personally I'll be visiting my pregnant daughter and I don't want to take risks of spreading the blasted thing and if people had come and caught it at our event, there's a strong case to say we would have been irresponsible to run it. The whole world's in turmoil and God knows how next year will pan out. Jeff, the 100 Club owner, who has suffered more than most, is optimistic that although the new strains are more contagious they have weaker symptoms and eventually the virus will mutate into nothng worse than a cold and we can resume life. Don't give a dose to the one you love most! Have as good a Christmas as you can and see you in 2022. Ady & Matt
  16. Rick has it exactly as I remember it; Claus Ogerman was big later on! Primarily a dance scene, the beat mattered more than the soul, a little like the pop side of NS. Maybe there were two sides to the scene as my guys didn’t do all nighters, I think the main events were Sunday all dayers
  17. Sorry not good on years, whenever it was first big here, though the boots were old stock probably from two or three years earlier
  18. Booted by the scene. I found the first bunch that I found in NYC and sold them at nighters (as rare boots) when it was first played here
  19. It was actually a very middle class, well-healed scene when I knew it. Check out some of their cars; money was no object if they wanted a record badly. I was involved with the scene from 73-late 70s. They used to come to Cheapo Cheapo record stall in London buying early Okeh and particularly that Leon Haywood Soul Cargo LP. I mainly dealt with a DJ called Nico whose name was Vereycken Frans I think. When I went to the States I picked up a lot of records for him from the Latest wants list and sent them to him in bulk. Once he just whacked a load of new £20s into three air mail envelopes and they dropped on my mat with the notes almost hanging out of the envelopes. I even stayed at his home and went to a Popcorn dance he ran with Major Lance appearing live.
  20. Likewise!

  23. We know the last few months have felt prohibitive for regulars due to prior ticketing etc. Hopefully the days of fully-ticketed nighters are behind us - the Anniversay nighters being the exception. For the 30th October event we’re offering both prepaid tickets and pay on the door. We’ll let you know if the tickets are starting to run dry so you won’t be left disappointed; most will just pay on the door. This will give anyone travelling a long way the certainty of entry. To buy tickets in advance please send £15 per ticket by PayPal to mattbolton4@hotmail.com If you don't have PayPal email to arrange with Matt. ALSO: Due to the clocks goin back, we’ll get an extra hour so all waits for trains, coaches, etc are kept to a minimum. We'll start at 11pm on the Saturday (BST) and end at 6am on the Sunday (GMT) .....Yipeeeee!
  24. I think so Graham, I know it’s not Dave listed on the session. Thanks for elucidating on the details
