  1. Always thought it was a bit like Karmello Brooks so I'm glad it's getting more popular; well deserved
  2. It was but the Sun made it front page and put an untrue angle on it to make it sensational.
  3. Nev bought a lot of the UKDemos off Pete Wid and I. We'd bought Radio 2 DJ David Gell's collection of mint demos off him via Vintage on the Calli Road. I remember a Bettye Swann CBS pic cover in particular. He was very knowledgeable, modest, a gentle giant. The Sun smeared his reputation with an utter pack of lies about his death just to titillate their readers. Most people would believe them in those days too, it was before they abused the war widow and Millie Dowling's memory
  4. Jack Taylor worked out of Detroit as well as New York. With Dave Hamilton in particular; he issued one of Dave's Chico & Buddy 45s on Tayster. Sorry Tricky, i hadn't spotted your response.
  5. You might like to try the Kent CD remix from Dave Hamilton's multi-track in stereo and available as a download too.
  6. Thoughtful choices and looking at his life as well as his career He chose the right version of God Bless The Child too
  7. Needed for both sides of Eddie King, just Nobody But Me by Sinner and Get In My Arms, the flip of Keep On. Personal scans only 300 dpi, not off the net please. CDs and thanks in return. Ta Ady
  8. After all that Ronnie's cancelled on doctors orders. A shame, the reviews last time reckoned she was brilliant
  9. Freebie Jesse, just PM me your address. It'll go first class tomorrow. Ady
  10. I've got a good ticket I can't use for Monday's show, if anyone wants it for nowt I'll stick it in the post. She's doing a great show apparently. Ady
  11. Well you got some bits for free. Have you streamed the Money CDs? Sadly I don't know how that works. Did you like the unissued tracks?
  12. In the mid 60s the store DJ (simultaneously going out on radio) was AC Scott aka Al Scott, owner of Call Me records and Ruth Dolphin's right hand man. He recalled Tammi Terrell turning up for a P A in a fur coat looking incredible. I wrote about it in detail in one of the Kent Money CDs
  13. Can you talk was Dootone and Now-Original sound subsid. I think you're mixing up Dootone and Money
  14. The sound files were good, has anyone got a copy in vg shape? ta Ady
  15. What was Ruth putting out in the 80s Robb? I've not seen any tapes later than mid 70s.
  16. I did 3 volumes of the Money Soul Story on CDKEND 209, 267, 316. All still available and as in depth about it as you'll find. The Bettye Swann one is a bit old now but features her story at money CDKEND 197
  17. There's only one 10" original 60s acetate of it, it was unissued at the time.
  18. Ha, I'll have a listen again
  19. That's all understandable from the collector's point of view. In an ideal world I'd hang on to stuff longer before putting them out but a) not many travel to rare soul venues any more, b) few other DJs want to plug a record for long if they know it's gonna come out (unless it's a really obviously big one) and c) it's often hard to get exclusive rights and there are plenty of bootleggers and semi-legal companies out there who would love to beat you to the punch on a release. In fact we're putting one out soon that I hadn't planned on but didn't want to be pre-empted by a competitor who may lack respect for the source.
  20. He had a lot of bottle too, I remember him fucking off a gang of funkateers who were taking the piss at a small Northern do at Crackers in the early 70s
  21. Brilliant, that's exactly what I want. Thanks very much Ady
  22. I worked out the Mary Love, it was a podcast they did or summat. Used the Modern version, not one they covered.
  23. An 'ornery old soul pioneer of the Northern scene down south. Dedicated and knowledgeable and nobody's fool. It was a pleasure to have known him and I'm very sad he's gone.
