  1. So you've woken up then!
  2. Apart from Ken being aurally dyslexic and as daft as a brush, I didn't think turd was an American word. Anyone got any evidence either way
  3. I got one from dave Burton's Harlequin record shop about 1972. When I bumped into John Anderson at Val Shively's in the mid 70s I asked him if he'd had one and he told me it didn't exist! Mine went to John Vincent who i think still has it.
  4. I also apologise to September for nicking her thread!
  5. I apologise unreservedly then, two bits of perceived criticism in one day tipped me over the edge. I still can't agree on the RCAs, Sharon Scott's unreleased sides in particular are awesome; smebody please find her! "Dave Ham 3" I really enjoyed, I think the Barbees, The Additions, Little Anns, the OC Tolberts, James Lately, Tobi Lark, Tokays and even Chico & Buddy though it's a bit funky are all corkers. Probably the couple of 80s tracks put you off, but give it another try and jump the tracks you can't stand. PS Apologies to September for nicking her thread!
  6. I'd differ on KC, SS, NW and the Cavaliers, which are better than the releases and say the others were on a par. I just worry that your attitude to Kent is a bit like Levine's Sidecar and you're missing out on a lot of good soul. You rightly picked me up on various title misprints on the label over the years but they were a tiny proportion and there's a lot of terrific stuff been issued. Out of interest do any of the tracks or comps please you in any way?
  7. Ooh It Hurts Me- Cavaliers What's That On Your Finger Kenny Carter Putting My Heart Under Lock And Key Sharon Scott I'm Not Afraid, Sharon Scott My Imagination The Metros She'll Be Leaving You Willie Kendrick Gambler's Blues Nancy Wilcox Come on, use a bit of objectivity here.
  8. It was the last Kent vinyl LP, hard to find now. It'll be out on a GG CD in a few months.
  9. No just pure inefficiency, we were churning them out back then. The highlight was the CD Rare Collectible and Souful, which went out and is probably rare and collectible itself. The one I spotted before printing, which i wish i hadn't was Anna King singing 'Mama's Got A Bag Of Heroin'. True!
  10. Ex Soul Source junta member Kolla has done a bang-up job on re-vamping the site. It looks very groovy and is easier for Luddites like me to see on my Brownie 127 PC. There's all the latest 6TS news as it oozes out of our press department and photos and articles and stuff like that. I think you can even stick up blogs and 'ting.
  11. I'm so glad I got Nige on at the 100 Club recently. He'd asked for a spot some years back but with my usual inefficiency it took yonks before he actually got on the stage. In the time inbetween he never gave me a hard time and when he finally made it there he was excellent. It was a memorable night. Rightly confident in his abilities he loved the scene to pieces, was totally positive and livened up any nighter he attended with his undoubted charm (and pasty legs). My commiserations to all his family and friends.
  12. I've just found my Jackie Lee Temptation Walk/Shotgun & The Duck on Old Soul so it was a bigger label than I thought. Any advance on three issues?
  13. Cheeky Palace fans, that's all I need! I'm sorted for the favour I think. Cheers Ady
  14. Is anyone catching it around mid-day on Friday. I may need a small favour ady.croasdell@btinternet.com if you can help.
  15. The Other Old Soul was Bobby Freeman Swim/Little Old Heartbreaker Me which was an odd choice!
  16. The Old Soul were 15 shillings from his stall on Leicester market and I sold them on at the Lantern for 25 bob each!
  17. Jeff's first boot and the first done for the scene (there were already US boots for doo wop and even soul ballads) was The Poets 'She Blew A Good Thing' on Old Soul which was our name for the scene then. I bought copies off him and took them to the Lantern all nighter in Market harborough and no-one could work out why they were on that label, myself included. There was one other on the label (a Jackie Lee?) he then started to Soul Sounds
  18. Break it up you lot, I've got to find the bleeding tape first!
  19. It's an unissued master tape and I've got another equally as good, slightly more manic. It needs some plugging if you're volunteering. Cheers Ady
  20. Great detective work folks, I think you're along the right lines there. When Steve and Molly abducted me to their car at 6.30 am during the 100 Club nighter, all I could hear was "It's A Reptile" but I think it was such a bizarre idea, I couldn't think of anything else. I'll try and get the writers on it. It should have come out on NF Porter's Lizard label!
  21. Latest bunch at horacesrecords (one word) include Johnny DeVigne 'I Smell Trouble' on De-Lite, several oldies and Kents (Darrow Fletcher 'My Young Misery' seems to be going crazy in anticipation of his visit - 20+ watchers) and a very rare Roy Castle that you all need!
  22. A big record at the end of West Hampstead 6TS was Fats Waller's 'Your Feet's Too Big' which must have been from the thirties!
  23. It doesn't sound at all like OC from any of the others I've heard. He was often gospel associated but from detroit not Chicago and there were a lot of Tolbert singers so it might be a relation. Any chance of a scan? Nice record though.
  24. Very interesting, I'll ask James Carmichael when I interview him for Mirwood Vol 2. We didn't notice anything unusual about the master tapes, so it could have been their studio technique. Ady
