New Kent 45s
Anniversary singles are in the pipeline but you'll have to remind me where those Yate titles we discussed are to be found!

New Kent 45s
Nice idea but i don't think it would sell unless I can deal with OJ Simpson's lawyer Johnnie Cochrane for the rights.

New Kent 45s
Things like the Themes didn't make 500 but others were up nearer the thousand. I was going to do the Westbound combination you suggested so that's likely. Soldier Boy is a good call as Mick H is playing the issued version. And yes 70s do tend to sell a bit better.

New Kent 45s
So far I like, Petes suggestions and Bobby Wisdom, I'm not sure if there's much demand for the other Renfros on vinyl, perhaps the Young Bros. I love Danny Cobus but is there any demand, same goes for some of the others. Harlem clown's interesting but is it big at the moment. Which Mr Dynamite and which Burn Baby burn Stuart, you're getting me confused! Betty Lavette's interesting, but she may cut my balls off, the GWP sides we're playing now will eventually be candidates once they get heard around the country. What would people reckon to a two price series £5 for bog standard previously available stuff like say Danny Monday and the Sequins, no minimum press and a £10 300 or 500 press series of say Danny Cobus and Tobi Lark True True Love at a tenner a go?

New Kent 45s
Well that thread about scurvy bootleggers got our creative juices flowing (I'll wipe it up later) and we'll give another run of singles from our catalogue. However it's much more viable if we use material we own, then we just pay the artists and songwriters, cos we're the owners! So how about suggestions from Dave Hamilton's labels and productions, Kent/Modern, Mirwood, Spring/Event, Money, GWP, Arock/Sylvia, Goldwax. There's also labels we have strong ties with like Westbound, Renfro, Scepter/Wand/Musicor/King, Aware/Hotlanta, Carnival, Dial and others. Obviously previously unissueds are good to put out, but we need stuff that's going to appeal to 500+ people. Get those thinking caps on.

Thanks Rod, we look on DJs playing them as good promo for the CD and if enough demand builds up even 45s. I've just spoken to Phil our sales guy and he reckons we could do another batch of Kent 45s for you discerning collectors. I'll start up another thread for your suggestions. I'll take True True Love as a starter though it'll take a couple of months or more so you could cut one in the meanwhile.

Universal handles the licensing requests for Europe. We still have many ongoing deals including the Carla Thomas 45 mentioned. Mark don't let criticism get to you too much, we've all done things we've regretted but if we change our attitudes and ways with the new knowledge we have that's great. There are quite a few people on here and elsewhere who have changed their attitudes since they've known the facts. I personally don't have any problem with tape copiers or people who run off CDs for their friends. It's the straight counterfeitters of 45s and CDs that I detest, especially if they pass them off as legitimate. It's particularly galling when those people brag about how rich and successful they are, yet don't attempt to pay the people who created the music. The people who buy their products usually bury their heads in the sand and say "No Politics" but that's how this scene is and everyone has their own personal morals. I'm happy to be doing things the way i do them and it's great that there are so many like-minded soul fans on here. By continuing to point out what's right and wrong we do have a sizeable effect; and sleep happy (except at weekends).

E mail phil.stoker@acerecords.com and ask him what the deal on the Kent singles is and he'll send you the titles and prices.

Amesnia Records Back Up & Running On Ebay
I know, you were right. it's not the crime of the century and it's good most people don't agree with it. As this one is out legitimately with all royalties being paid, the guy doesn't have a leg to stand on and the people who buy the boots need there bumps felt. An enterprising legitimate dealer should put the Kent 45s that are available up there and make a bit of money.

Very true Pete, though there are also a lot of labels we own too. This was only a license which is still active. Fantasy who own this track are now licensing Stax through Universal so I'd be amazed if this was a legitimate release, Universal aren't likely to license one side of a low press 45. And of course we already have the 45 available on Kent with the stunning 'I Play For Keeps' on the flip for a fiver! No doubt Fantasy will be very interested in this release.

Jackie Day R I P
She always regretted having to pull out of the second TAC Yarmouth weekender, the sweatshirts even have her name and a copy of Before It's Too Late on them.

Jackie Day R I P
She had been in a coma for some months and died on Jan 4th. She was a lovely woman and a great singer. I'll attempt an obituary later this week.

The Detroit Sound Label?
And that chap wrote the Hit Pack's Never Say No To Your baby with Robert Staunton who wrote some stuff for Motown but LA or Detroit. Were the Hit Pack black or white, anyone got a US scan?
-
The Detroit Sound Label?
That Robert Walker's gotta be white whereas I met a black Robert Walker in LA who reckoned he'd done Stick By Me but I can't remember what that sounds like.

Holy Grails of genres?
At some stage yes. Nobody knows if it came out on the Love label presumably.
-
Holy Grails of genres?
We've got the master tape of this from Golden State Recorders and a note that says it came out on Love 001 in March 1973 though Manship has it listed on Cherry Red, presumably not the punk label that Sharon didn't sign to.

Stuart Maconie
If you listen hard to my contribution you can hear the store announcements from Tescos in the background. It was pre-recorded and i forgot about it so they had to do me in Harboro Tescos on my mobile!

Which Label For Xmas?
Likewise Baby, as you can see we've started early at Croasdell Acres.

The Nite Owl in Leicester was just finishing abot 1968 when i started, i never made it but I'd love to hear about it by anyone who did. Presumably Jeff king the original bootlegger's stomping ground.
