  1. I know, I'm a beast sometimes.
  2. Possibly; if they feel they can wring a few more bucks out of it Is that all, it felt like more Unimaginative No, too many sold off for sod all
  3. To be fair, as we football managers say, it's probably a case of we should put out the ones we've got easy access to first. As they are cheaper for us to put out then we're not taking such a risk if they sit on the shelves. Once we've shifted a wagon load of these we'll be licensing Robbie Williams' Northern sides. It's mainly just the problems of dealing with major record labels who don't understand that less than 1,000 sales may still be worth doing. Some are better than others and I don't believe any are worth booting as it's the artists and songwriters who would also get screwed. Bootleggers don't pay publishing either. Given time and changes of personnel you'll find that a company can go from unapproachable to OK (And vice verca). You may be right about my demeanour; I'll use Bakcdoor Kenny in future negotiations, we couldn't afford your private jet invoices.
  4. Would it sell a few copies if it came out on a vinyl 45 in a couple of months time, or is it a connoisseurs cut only? Or does it need a bit longer?
  5. No idea, Chris King made such a mess at Motown I got completely baffled.
  6. The directors of Ace / Kent records don't believe in the fifty year rule (I'm not sure that it's finalised yet anyway) and we continue to pay royalties on records we re-release older than that. I think that's admirable and a heartening example of ethical business. So we can keep buying their products knowing the right people will be rewarded.
  7. Plenty the royalties were sorted out on them when the record was pressed you don't have to pay them every time a record changes hands.
  8. Only the ones that talk bollocks and are disrespectful. If you think you have a valid argument state your case without the insults.
  9. Karen, they earnt from whatever copies were sold at the time the record was pressed. Many of our so called rareties sold well locally (which was sometimes as far as the company expected to sell anyway) at the time. If the record bombed that's all the more reason why the creators should earn some dosh now it is finally being appreciated as good music. Any re-selling of original records is irrelevant here as the royalties had already been sorted on issue. But they should earn royalties everytime the music is reproduced for sale be it on CD, vinyl or downloads. If people are earning money from re-releasing the recording they should pay the people who created it in the first place.
  10. good points and all true but I would say that if the sales of the next batch are encouraging then we might be able to afford some of the big royalty rates next time around so don't give the green light to any bootlegging berks yet!
  11. An unreleased Scepter master tape we found in the mid 80s and it came out on various LPs and CDs since and was a Horaces label 45 now long deleted. A big sound down the 100 club in the 80s.
  12. Well I've been at it for a few years longer than you and the reason is that back in the day we didn't know how to contact producers artists and label owners. Now we do we should pay them their dues as they are the ones that made this utterly brilliant music for us. why not let them share in it's belated success now we can. Nobody's slagged off re-issue 45s just bootlegs. The royalties should be paid on manufacture each time a piece of music or a song is issued and permission should be granted from the legal owner. So why do some people think they are above that and the music's theirs to do with it what they will? We've debated all the arguments on here ad infinitum so it's rather pathetic of you to join up and call us whingers. We just care a bit more about the musical rights than you obviously do. Your little rant seems quite whingey to me!
  13. Atlantic's too pricey at the moment, Charlie Rich is an idea, we might get some C&W sales too! Greg did play the Other Brothers at the Dome as you said Stuart so quite a few peeps would know it. He's running a Jack Black School Of Rock now!
  14. Of course you can, that's the logical way to do it. Cutting an acetate doesn't make much sense as it lowers the sound quality but sometimes there aren't CD facilities and other times the DJs just like the physical presence of them
  15. OK Tobi's a definite, which jackie lee, is Trust Me getting some interest, it's a triffic song. It might be a bit late for Morris, I'll see. The RCA Pied Piper's would be too expensive but Sebastian'sOther Brothers might be a good Out Of Left Field choice.
  16. Yeah I only want it for the photo and info so I'll pass it on, send me your address off line. Ady
  17. Nah, Bobby Angelle's Too Much For You' on Money. There's a soundfile on the Ace site www.acerecords.com
  18. Funnily enough most of the masters we get hold of don't usually have original acetates, Nancy wilcox being the main exception. I doubt if the value of the original acetate would go down much as it would be an even bigger record once released and played out in more venues (assuming there are enough DJs who would play new released old recordings)
  19. I think it's the same backing track as Too Much?
  20. [quote name='Baz' date='Jan 9 2007, 01:10 PM' post='the cnut tried to threaten me with mentioning all the names of family that live in my house.............
  21. Anniversary singles are in the pipeline but you'll have to remind me where those Yate titles we discussed are to be found!
  22. Nice idea but i don't think it would sell unless I can deal with OJ Simpson's lawyer Johnnie Cochrane for the rights.
  23. Things like the Themes didn't make 500 but others were up nearer the thousand. I was going to do the Westbound combination you suggested so that's likely. Soldier Boy is a good call as Mick H is playing the issued version. And yes 70s do tend to sell a bit better.
  24. So far I like, Petes suggestions and Bobby Wisdom, I'm not sure if there's much demand for the other Renfros on vinyl, perhaps the Young Bros. I love Danny Cobus but is there any demand, same goes for some of the others. Harlem clown's interesting but is it big at the moment. Which Mr Dynamite and which Burn Baby burn Stuart, you're getting me confused! Betty Lavette's interesting, but she may cut my balls off, the GWP sides we're playing now will eventually be candidates once they get heard around the country. What would people reckon to a two price series £5 for bog standard previously available stuff like say Danny Monday and the Sequins, no minimum press and a £10 300 or 500 press series of say Danny Cobus and Tobi Lark True True Love at a tenner a go?
