  1. It may just be a different EQ, the tape was the master tape for the record. If you send me a recording of the vinyl I'll let you know. Ady
  2. Thanks Jon just the job. Ady
  3. Is it a popcorn type midtempo thing with him singing "oo shoopy doopy" near the end?
  4. Is it a popcorn type midtempo thing with him singing "oo shoopy doopy" near the end?
  5. And does it sound like the boots, mainly backing track with the vocals in there very low in the background?
  6. Howdy Dennis, It's Detroit and we had the tape in the Dave Hamilton collection. One side came out on a Where The Girls Are CD, I'll look up what's on the CD notes. It's pretty rare have you got a copy, I'd love a scan. Ady
  7. Interesting, he must have got his mitts on the masters but missed the vocals to Double Cookin'!
  8. I doubt it he said it was Sherlie doing that version of 'My Sugar baby' (I think that's the one) and she denies it.
  9. That's rotten, he was a character and a half and livened up many a 100 Club evening, he lived in London for several years in the 80s. My condolences to all his friends and relations.
  10. I'm sure anyone who has posted here believes their postings are accurate and fair. I don't consider Ian's article was accurate and fair and that's why I raised it on here. He wrote something in a magazine which a lot of us read and this is a forum for discussion, just because it's Levine doesn't mean we can't talk about it.
  11. He had a silver tongue but even I didn't believe him when he showed me all those repros he did in the mid 70s and swore blind they were originals. I told people back in England but they still bought them; what you gonna do?!
  12. Sorry John, the only "in" he got was getting his grubby hands on some of the master tapes, it's highly unlikely (like 99.999999999999999999%) that Soussan did a legitimate deal for these, a story was put around by interested parties that Randy Wood told him to take whatever tapes he wanted but the company secretary and Randy Wood's financial backer said that never happened. The Belles is of course the Mirettes 'I Want To do Everything for You Baby' and I'll Do Anything is 'Anything You Want' actually by Jackie, the voice was too distinctive to fool people. The fact that Soussan changed the artists in one case and titles in both is pretty clear evidence that this is an out and out bootleg; tampering with a published song name is strictly illegal without the songwriter and publishers permission. Both songs were written by Sherlie Matthews. So it should not be sold as a legitimate release and £25 for a boot is on the very high side, particularly a common, poor quality one. Both sides are out legitimately on Kent's Mirwood CD series.
  13. As most people who will buy this will have already bought the Deep Soul Treasures CDs we didn't want to repeat too many tracks from there, so there's only 'Go Now' which is from a fantastic quality new tape, that's repeated. That way you get to hear more of Larry's work and the Shaladons version of 'Showdown' is something else!
  14. I just needed to know for some sleevenotes for the Larry banks tribute CD on Kent in September. 8,500 words and counting! Sean Hampsey kindly started a thread on this elsewhere.
  15. And what about that bar, long enough for a cricket pitch and strong enough to hold Randy up.
  16. Hear hear (or is it here here?) I echo the same as everyone, with knobs on!
  17. You Da Best Reeeeeeeeeeeee-Speck
  18. Shit, that was quick. One credit and three CDs when it's finished to the likely lads. If there are any Larry Banks credits except for You'd Better Get Hip Girl could you let me know (I'm assuming the credit on that is Banks, Head, Kelley.
  19. Can anyone list the tracks on it for me please. Sleevenote credit and freebie awaits the first lucky winner. Ta Ady
  20. No. Ambiguous means something has two meanings and my post quoted from a magazine article that was largely incorrect and made comments about that article. If Levine continues to misrepresent a chapter of Northern Soul history he will be corrected. I'd expect the same treatment if I were to come out with a questionable version of events. I agree this is a brilliant medium and only people involved with each particular topic are likely to comment as we've seen from this. I don't expect anyone from Yorkshire say would give a damn unless they were visitors to the Dome when Ian honoured it with his presence. So to declaim the thread as Levine baiting is wrong.
  21. Hi Chris, nobody said it didn't get played, I was asking whether it did and it appears so, though not by Ian as the article inferred. However the rest of the paragraph is either incorrect or misleading and is about Ian making out he got one over on everyone at the Dome when as you can see that's hardly the case. It's not Levine bashing, just defending a terrific club that a lot of us on here loved to go to.
  22. I was, but wasn't straight enough (mentally that is).
  23. The bootleggers were trying to make out it was a Detroit discovery to put people off the LA location. Has anyone got their Main Street on Revue?
  24. I think history may have been re-written. "The Dome was running all-nighters at the time and had a policy whereby anything made after 1970 wouldn't get played. Every time I went there I would get asked for the Four Vandals. They simply couldn't get enough of it. As soon as it was on the decks the floor would fill and this for a record that was recorded in 1999. Had they known that it would have been banned from the club." The Dome didn't run all-nighters, did Levine ever DJ there? I thought not, when he asked Matt Jahans for a spot Matt asked him to do a tape and he went off in a hissy fit. Did anyone ever play the Four Vandals there or has he completely lost it (again)?
  25. Latest 6ts News inc 18 Aug Event and Anniversary Ticket News Irish Pip belatedly added to Jack's 6TS nighter due to malfunctioning of promoter. The DJing sensation of the last Cleethorpes weekender (no pressure there then Pip!) has just reminded me I booked him for next Saturday (18th Aug) nighter at Jack's and like the weevil I am, forgot to put him on the flyer. He's trecking across the sea so this article should put that right and emphasise what a stunning line up of DJs it will be. Butch, Keith Money, Ady Croasdell, Adam Torel, Warren Boogaloo and Pip. Also don't forget that ickets for the 28th all nighter (Sept 22nd at the 100 Club) go on sale on the night.
