  1. Yeah Commonwealth but I see what you mean, did SS get her to cut a version or did he just buy a bunch of copies from her. I'll have to get back to you on that one.
  2. Try the flip of Wedding-Park Avenue for a great slice of NYC life. My favourite is probably The Last One To Be Loved. Randy always tipped It Ain't No Use as a potential dancer
  3. I've got one I'll flog if I can ever find it.
  4. April's an interesting lady who once visited Ace Towers. She was married to the guy who had the Candix label and had tapes by Theola Kilgore and Jimmy Holiday. Her real name was Da Silva and I think was Polynesian.
  5. My mate has the LP, the non LP track is No Other Guy and I can't remember what the label was like but it was printed not Test Pressing stylee. And Lou's Reach Out For Me is the best, he is actually my favourite male soul vocalist bar none.
  6. Plans are afoot for Lou to visit but he's not keen on flying and there's a lot of work to be done yet. The Big Top LP has one non 45 side which is brilliant , there's The Panic Is On acetate I've got and a couple of unissued ballads about on dodgy CDs. We're in touch with Big Top owners and are trying to sort a package out for Lou that will look after him well. The Big Top LP has a proper label but no cover as they didn't get that far.
  7. That's gotta be rare I put it on a Kent CD from master-tape (I think) but didn't know it ever came out. That's a great find. Ady

  9. News of a change to djs and hours for the 100 Club January event Dear 6TS goer, Unfortunately the manager of the 100 Club applied for our all-nighter extension a day too late and despite our excellent reputation and record over the years, the police licensing authorities refused to allow us any leeway. We therefore have to finish the night at the club's latest licensed closing time of 3 am. We will be starting proceedings at 9pm. This will not affect future 100 Club all nighter dates that will all go ahead as planned; the management have assured me that they will be applying well in time and I'll be checking each time now. However I know this will cause problems for quite a few of you who have pre-booked trains, planes, baby-sitters etc. and for this the club management and I apologise profusely. We were going to pull the gig completely but realised we can still have a great late soul night, though it won't be the usual all nighter feel; more of a cross between that and the Xmas party. It will also mean that people who are coming to London anyway can have a good night out. Because of all this we are reducing the price of admission from £12 to £8 and have adapted the DJ line up as Butch, Mick H and Russ are better suited to all nighters and we have moved their appearances to the next nighter on March 8th which will be at the new permanent nighter time of 10pm-6am. Mick and I will still be serenading you with our soul numbers, (I've just acquired a great new unissued Brooks O'Dell Columbia track, perfect for the 100 Club) as usual, and we've added 40th birthday boy, long time 100 Club stalwart, Dome maestro and top London 60s club DJ Alan Handscombe to the roster. We'll be adding another top DJ too; I'll E-mail further details and check out www.6ts.info for updates. Many apologies once more, but in true 6TS style "the soul must go on". I really appreciate your continued support over so many great years and hopefully will see y'all down those hallowed steps on the 19th. Ady
  10. Great stuff, you're going to make Mr Rounce very happy!
  11. The unissued Columbia cut that Tony's managed to get out of Sony for this CD is absolute mid-tempo magic. I'll be spinning it at the 100 Club on the 19th if anyone is desperate for a preview.
  12. "Winnie The" I hope! It's nice to be back home on the ole Source.
  13. Thanks everybody, I'm all sorted now. Ady
  14. No, I'm saying I'm too busy going through my box to see what to play next, once I've judged the dancers reaction to what I've just played and looked through the pile I've already dug out to try and programme. I'm also listening to peoples requests and occasionally dashing off for a slash.
  15. Thanks people. I saw him in Belgium around this time and it must have coincided with a UK tour.
  16. If you take the trouble to re-read my post I said that writing down the titles wasn't possible as there's not time during the set, unless you want the set to suffer. I then mentioned the alternative way that I do it so as to avoid repeating plays. I've actually joined in the discussion to try and find a way of doing it. Sober up or go to bed.
  17. What are you on? I never said anything remotely like that. Top lad you are!
  18. Thanks. In that case did he do a tour of Top Ranks in the mid to late 70s? I've got a ticket of him at Watford Top Rank somewhere.
  19. Because not everyone wants Motownesque records all the time, because Ian Levine's taste was far from infallible, he has a much higher love of pop than most soul fans (as do I) and the records that went big through the 80s and 90s came from 100s of different sources, Ian's neglected collection was only one small part of it.
  20. Chris, your post is ridiculous. Butch plays virtually all classic soul style records and your leader Mr Levine would concur with that. He doesn't clear dancefloors anywhere and that's why he's been rated as the top rare Northern Soul DJs for the last 15 years at least.
  21. I'll ask the other DJs whether it would be something they would use, I know it would be helpful to me on the Friday and Sunday. What exactly does Tom do when he's scribbling, presumably for his own interest. Is he in the main room most of the time and how late does he stay up?
  22. The writing down by the DJ wouldn't work for me. With 2 and a bit minutes records and people up on stage for requests, I don't have time. If I've been upstairs at the 100 Club working or just extra dozy, I ask someone who's stationed themselves at the front of the stage most of the night, Mike Gibbs, Trickster, Joel, James, Matt Bolton etc. The only problem is when James says Pat & The Blenders has been played when it hasn't cause he's bored with it. It's not a big problem at the 100 Club but at Cleethorpes with people wandering round at odd hours and in odd places, I perhaps could get a stenographer to list the sounds for everyone. They'd have to be very knowledgable though and hopefully wouldn't start uncovering Butch's cover-ups!
  23. I think you were probably right first time; it isn't just leopards that don't change their spots.
  24. That post put it in a good perspective Rod. I'd disagree a bit with the beat ballads though. Barbara McNair wasn't that slow once it got going and was ususally played on UK because it was iconic, rare Motown. The Drifter was another mid tempo play but the likes of Johnny Maestro, Kurt Harris, Tony Mason's 'Take Good care', Trends 'Not Too Old To Cry' and Simmsy's favourite 'Gone Gone' were slower and more ballady (such writing skills!). Slower records were usually only played as enders until then. Also the 6TS nights weren't R&B nights in the slightest, they just featured some good R&B dancers. It was the 6TS Rhythm 'n' Soul Society and the mix has often been used as a genre by some clubs to describe their music policy. Sorry for being pedantic but we might as well get it all right while we're at it.
