  1. Thanks, that's done it and what a bunch of belters there are there too. I cut my teeth on most of them. My first trip wasn't until 1974 and there were brilliant sounds around then, but not of that quality, in that quantity. Reeeeeeeeeeeeespect!
  2. Could someone kindly paste the bleeding list up, I can't see it anywhere on here, it won't open for me. HELP!
  3. Thanks for all the nice comments folks, but I must put my hand up to one aspect I feel i didn't do quite right and that is the Popcorn element. Basically there are probably only about 4 tracks on there that are out and out Popcorn. I know it only says "with added Popcorn" but some people might be expecting a bit more. That was due to some tracks dropping out and other great New Breed type tracks becoming available and to be honest I don't think I'd studied the true Popcorn sound enough, although I do know a fair bit about it from my involvement with it in the 70s. So basically it's a New Breed R&B CD with a taste of Popcorn and hopefully a reasonably correct description of the scene in the liner notes. I think some of the Popcorners will dig the early 60s R&B as well so hopefully they'll be happy with the CD. I now need to do a full on Popcorn CD to make up for it and it would be great to give some proper recognition to the best of the soul and R&B sides that have been played there over the years, not least to counter the huge prevalence of bootleggers on that scene. In conclusion then this is primarily New Breed R&B but also features some gritty uptempo soul tracks like Barbara & The Browns, Sh'mon and Albert Washington. Several of the bluesier tracks move at a pace too, so it's far from a mid-tempo CD, though definitely a start of things to come.
  4. We actually produce the CDs for sale or most of these would never see the light of day! It sounds like this CD is a must for you anyway. Cheers Ady
  5. Nice one Mick, thanks. If as I suspect it's written by Henry Glover, Wally Hall and Billy Myles, it's a reasonable bet that our Tom Tumbleweed is Billy Myles who cut a few 45s in this period. We continue to learn. I like this version, very Peggy Lee. Whadya reckon to Mata Hari by Chet Ivey, I love it but someone else wasn't so sure. It's very cute and Coastersy. The lyrics crack me up. We'll do Gladys Bruce on a single eventually but Luther's gonna be out for Cleethorpes!
  6. I think it's a stomper, not crossover at all. And Ian it was the Stylistics who were syrupy, the Delfonics were pure class. (though Point Of No Return by the Stylistics is a great dancer)
  7. He had one called Heartbeat that wasn't up to much, i can't remember Now at all
  8. Now you're talking, I like YGE but Down Is Up is brilliant and I've never heard it played out. £2 record as it sold a million, perhaps that's why; shame on us (well at least me)!
  9. Great stuff Simon, I was wondering which song it was, Clara Ward eh!
  10. Is this a male female duet and did it just come out on Stone Blue and is there a soundfile anywhere or could some kind person do me a tape please? And did they do anything else together? So many questions. Cheers Ady
  11. Wow I didn't know it was on an album, can you send me the title and tracks please?
  12. Simsy, The Lantern in Market Harborough was separate and a decade before Market Harborough Welland Park School. Studio 21 Oxford St, Randy's old Last Chance venue and London's first ever Northern nighter. Loughborough Town Hall Jim Eddlestone ran one in a country park in lincs Saints & Sinners in Birmingham Demob warehouse nighters near where Keb usually gets married.
  13. I don't even do half of mine!
  14. Only Your Love is 3.59 on UK. Do I Win A Prize?
  15. That's not true there are quite a few artists who get much more than a pitance when their work is re-released legally and under contract. Ace / Kent are sending out substantial cheques every week to artists, label owners and songwriters. We obviously bring artists over too, there's no reason why they shouldn't get their dues in more than one way. As for free CDs from the venues, that's a personal matter for the promoters and has a lot to be said for and against it.
  16. At the ISH Great Portland St tube London W1 Get there before 11pm as there are lots of Sonics fans descending on it after that.
  17. My condolences to all concerned over this tragedy.
  18. And don't forget the original full length recording about three and a half minutes is on the first Soul Of Money CD. The single was a complex edit.
  19. I've never seen or heard of one apart from in a listing
  20. There seems to be a fair few on here who reckoned they didn't call it Northern into the early 70s, in which case when did it become the universally accepted term that it now is? I would have thought it wouldn't have taken more than a year for the term to be commonplace after it's first publication in B&S but perhaps it took longer. Ian, I'll grant you immunity from the Wigan Royalty clique. I do remember you in the record bar talking like a mere mortal to the rest of us.
  21. I don't think so or we'd have put them out if they were half decent
  22. And don't forget www.6ts.info folks. Ady
