  1. I heard that in the 70s from a good source but I can't remember who.
  2. Great stuff Andy, your enthusiasm shines through and its obvious the film makers are trying their best to accommodate our scene, though as a fellow flat-cap wearer I think you might have a case to put to the Court of Human Rights!
  3. The man at the Essex Rd chippy says you're welcome back anytime if you return his cruet.
  4. So how did it go today kids or are you on overtime?
  5. There are too many ridiculous statements and attitudes in this spiel to address, but Dave Godin would certainly not be turning over in his grave; though he might have been at that statement. Dave left the Northern Soul scene that he inadvertently named, because of unsufferable egos who were putting themselves above the music. His main concern was that the artists, writers, producers etc who made the music, got the credit they deserved. As far as I can see most of the objections to this film have been based on the soundtrack, by people concerned that it was not going to represent the music that was played at the time properly, and the correct artists etc not being recompensed. That seems pretty reasonable, I know I'd rather see money in the hands of Popcorn Wylie than Duffy or Paul Weller for this. It's a rare chance to represent our scene with the fantastic music that we have loved for so long, so hopefully they'll get it right, possibly even with SSers help. I wish the posters WERE dictating the music policy, I'm sure the soundtrack would be good, but sadly I don't think SS has that much clout in the film world. Keb's explained that there will be plenty of original music, properly sourced and I and probably most of the critics are content with that. The most anti-film post that is quoted is that a member hopes the film will fail because the producers are out to rip the scene off (well that's the gist of it), hardly fascist, just an opinion, I'm sure the film-makers won't stop the project because of that. Lets keep things in perspective.
  6. No it's that John Alderton session in the Please Sir film.
  7. He nicked I'm Ready For Love for a Town Called malice and So Is The Sun for Trans Global Express so it's not the first, he had previous.
  8. Well that's guaranteed another ten pages then.
  9. The director's post was a bit of a blanket condemnation of SSers, I think you got all shades of opinions on this. But then again what's the Casino like without a little bit of paranoia?
  10. Wear that flat hat of yours and they'll give you a whippet and a speaking part! I hope you have a great weekend Andy.
  11. Not yet just on one of the old vinyl LPs. I think the Charly things like the Rosco Shelton were after that but don't quote me.
  12. It was an unissued Brunswick track I found in their vaults the same trip as Torture, magic Touch etc and I had a copy made for Guy to play out. Great batch of stuff from Scepter Wand, Musicor and Brunswick
  13. Commiserations to all who knew Jerry, a true innovator. Especially to our own Adam Torel was close to him and confirmed what a genuine guy Jerry was.
  14. Nice stuff, is that Chief from Luton with the long hair. Is King/Smelly George on any of the photos?
  15. And he features in Jersey Boys in a minor role as the guy who introduced Bob Gaudio, the brilliant songwriter, to the original group.
  16. Your having a good Sunday then Ken.
  17. I remember the room vividly, it's always a shock when you find an old man asleep in the "spare" bed. No wonder the room was cheap. I had no idea it was Dexys. Then again I went for twenty years regretting never having seen Curtis Mayfield until Kev Collins told me I had at Dingwalls!
  18. Undoubtedly the best is Jr Walker's Come see About Me, he takes it to another dimension. I also like Mitch Ryder's version and the Vanilla Fudge mentioned is brilliant too.
  19. And Rob Holmes sent me a clip of a porn video where they use the instrumental bit as a backing track, I'm hoping the royalties will arrive in kind.
  20. Has anyone ever seen a release by her on GWP, she had 2 tracks on their LPs but I ain't seen a single listed.
  21. Oh dear and you were doing SO well. I loved Quadrophenia but to compare any film with Sting kicking someone softly on the floor to that masterpiece with the best ever screen violence by the lake side is not on sir! I'm glad I never got to see Absolute Beginners now, I loved the book. Colin McInnes used to live near my old flat in Langham St, by the by.
  22. I think in the grand scheme of things this is spot on. The only potentially bad thing is if this muddies the waters for any further productions by not doing a competent job or by misrepresenting any parts of the scene in a negative way. Having said that it's a film produced for entertainment, with a very short shelf life, that will increase awareness momentarily. It may convet or it may embarrass, we'll soon see.
  23. I can't remember the name of it but at the time it was the worst thing I'd ever seen on Northern and nothing's ever come near it in terms of awfullness. It was mainly about a bloke half-raping a girl.
  24. What's the Function one called and is there a film of Once Upon A Time In Wigan as well. I want to play Anna Ford.
