  1. If you get a chance to hear it from the kent Ovations CD, it's much better quality than any other format, well worth a listen. I'm sticking it on a Goldwax northern CD soon too.
  2. I do think there is a lack of tolerance around at the moment, most people seem OK with mid 60s uptempo soul but the R&B lovers don't like funkier early 70s style sounds and that lot don't like R&B (nor for some reason Latin which seems quite funky to me). At the 100 Club we've always tried to cater for different crowds and try different DJs. If you're not keen on a DJ's style there's usually another along in 30 or 40 minutes (that's why I started those type of timings and stick with them) and I try to contrast the Djs with the ones either side of their spot. I also try and get DJs who can cover more than one area and if the style they prefer ain't working they can try another (or newies/oldies as opposed to style)
  3. It's the flip of Love Machine and I can't find mine. Could somebody post it up or Email me an MP3 please. Ta Ady
  4. We certainly advanced it a fair bit at work once all the kind collectors started sending their rareties in. Peter Gibbon was typing away like a demented discographer. I'll try and get one together and post it in the box section tomorrow. Cheers Ady
  5. I'm not a fan myself Ken, but I didn't notice too much of it, then again I was flitting around. The dancefloor seemed busy most of the night, but I'd be interseted in other people's thoughts. I can see what Butch is doing to an extent and as long as he mixes it in with his other great records I'm not too worried. I actually was more confused by Marco's set going down so well, I reckon most of his had a 10-40% funk element to them that was OK but a bit too much over what turned out to be a long set. However the dancefloor was always busy and Russ, James and others were loving it, perhaps it's the way the scene's going? I'm sure I need to get out more.
  6. I'm with you Mike, it must be utterly tedious and a waste of time having to monitor and warn people. It's fair enough if it's a spur of the moment thing that gets out of hand and then stops (been in a few!) but when feuds continue for weeks or even months, it's gotta be a total pain, as it is for non involved parties trying to read a thread.
  7. Ginger played Burning Bush, first bought it off me at St Ives and it cleared the floor but he stuck with it. Great record; what's not to like. The nearest to punk apart from Pushin Too hard by the Seeds was when Martyn Ellis started DJing punk and played the Jewels Togetherness for them to pogo to.

    I don't think so.

Please tell him that Ace records own some of those boots he's selling and we'll be contacting Ebay about them. He's depriving the artists and songwriters of revenue too. Ady
  10. That was Ace's mistake, not SKM's. Details and info on the label are very hard to come across and there was also a mistake saying the Johnnie Richardson Sprout releases were unissued. We corrected it all on J&S Harlem Soul CDKEND 306, but as it is such uncharted waters, I'm sure new gems will turn up on the label from time to time. It's a rare single and is a real beauty to my mind too. Quirky but captivating would be the mots juste!
  11. Hi Bob, it's doubtful that it ever got issued so I'd just like to see a scan, someone else who I know would pay good money for it. Speaking of which Steve, get in touch before Leicester turn over the Palace or you might sulk on me for a while
  12. So you'd get to the vocal at least?
  13. Has anyone ever seen or heard of a copy? He's The Only Guy I'll Ever Love is the flip. Mr Guarnori?
  14. Do you still have all your favourite oldies on original?
  15. In London we were re-discovering the 60s club rhythm and soul sounds (and discovering new ones at the same time) along with the better end of Northern and the whole scene was buzzing; far from dead. This is a rare case of London being off the Northern musical radar at the time, though we had the likes of John Farrell, Richie Andrew, your very own Ian Popple and others travelling down to the nights even though they finished at 12 sometimes.
  16. No, Wigan was.
  17. Doh! No really major Petes though, and no Adrians at all!
  18. That's the girl, Sonny's name dropping already.
  19. And was Pete Cooke black or white? It's an interesting thing, which names are popular with Black Americans and which ain't and why.
  20. I can't think of any. Not many Steve's either.
  21. I just heard from Maxine Brown that her original guitarist died on Monday morning. He was still gigging and very active on the New York black music scene. Not Sam "The Man" Taylor apparently!

    Time to change jobs
  23. I agree but I'm not sure what the others look like.
