  1. Unfortunately it's probably the Part 2 I'm gonna use and unless you included it as a bonus, it's not on it. Try and remember who bought the record if you can! Thanks ady
  2. Thanks, i didn't know that. One of Arthur Wright's good friends Ben Taylor who i met with Arthur was in the group, i should have written something about it on one of the Kent Modern CDs. Do I still owe you those CDs? If so PM me a list of releases you'd like and I'll add the one I'm on about. T Toney did a lot of good West coast productions.
  3. Great stuff, yes the Tokays were part of dave's management and Chico & Buddy from the group went on to record for his labels. i don't know those other groups but there's all sorts of intersting contracts like a song written for a Topper release that ended up allocated to someone totally different. Could you do a good scan of it face on and I'll use it in Vol 4, it'll give me a chance to list all the "what if" connections. Cheers ady
  4. Yes, he was involved with Theodore Toney and Arthur Wright and apparently it came out as by him on Cherry Red, but I'm not sure if it's the same version as it's only one side of the disc and the FSSR was part 1 & 2. There was also a great unreleased track by Johnny Adams of the same name, but totally different, which we put on the first "The Soul Of Money" CD. It must have been a local catch phrase or street talk.
  5. Pleeeeeeeeeeease? Ady
  6. Can anyone lend me a half decent copy, mine's rough. Ta Ady
  7. Good idea, but the CD was inadvertently a bootleg Mike who has said all the ridiculous things you've quoted? I didn't see them on here; it could be a case of the apocryphal EEC straight bananas. I think if people don't like DJs playing bootlegs they can express an opinion and the same goes for selling bootlegs. This case just happens to be hilarious because the mistakes were honest; a similar case was the Donnie Elbert 'So Soon' now not generally thought to be by Chris Bartley.
  8. Most clubs have their regular punters who don't always get around the country. To the ones at the 100 Club, myself included, Papa Bear would have been relatively new once Keith started playing it, whereas when James plays Nancy Wilcox up North it'll be new to a lot of them, but an "oldie" at the 100 Club. I reckon it takes at least 18 months to break the most obvious of sounds, so 3 years these days isn't really that long.
  9. Funnily enough that's t'other Goldwax/Fame we're going for on the proposed CD. Great version but I'm not mentioning the club with the lowest ceiling; very limiting on my pogoing at the time.
  10. No theirs is It's Been A Long Time.
  11. No Andy it'll be a standard kent Dance CD as it's gonna be the Northern side of Goldwax.
  12. All in good time: now get back to those Joe Simon CDs!
  13. There's actually an interesting twist to this tale that should get sorted in the next couple of months when it will finally get its first ever 100% legal release!
  14. Hi Darryl, I just sent you a pm about NIACI being on an old Kent CD which is still available. Ray and Billy are great guys who wrote some top songs for Debbie Taylor and The Persians for GWP. I'm sorting out the publishing for them on this and a few other songs but artist royalties are harder to pick up. I'll send you the US licensee's details too. Cheers and thanks for a wonderful record, Ady
  15. No need for that Des, I'm always happy to see you, I was just a bit mystified and wondered if it was the type of person who would reckon Papa Bear, Ernestine Eady or the Hytones was an oldie. I think there may be die hard newies fans who move onto and past a recent discovery a lot faster than most people, myself included. Not disagreeing i just think it's a bad use of the term, overplayed rareties would be a term i could understand.
  16. That's good, smashing lass.
  17. One of Randy Cozens' main interests was the Mob and he often spent his hols in NYC hanging out in mob areas. He once introduced himself to John Gotti's brother which is a pretty dangerous thing to do! He had lots of original books and documents on the Mafia and gangsters.
  18. With Butch and keith on most times and me plugging the various unissued tracks and discoveries, along with guests like Andy Dyson, Mick H, Karl Heard, Marco etc i have no idea where you got the oldies fest from; please enlighten me. There's only Mick who plays oldies to any extent and I chuck a bunch of 3 or 4 in to please some of the crowd who want them and because they're good but who would tell you we were an oldies fest? I think, like you say, getting down there could be the answer.
  19. If you get a chance to hear it from the kent Ovations CD, it's much better quality than any other format, well worth a listen. I'm sticking it on a Goldwax northern CD soon too.
  20. I do think there is a lack of tolerance around at the moment, most people seem OK with mid 60s uptempo soul but the R&B lovers don't like funkier early 70s style sounds and that lot don't like R&B (nor for some reason Latin which seems quite funky to me). At the 100 Club we've always tried to cater for different crowds and try different DJs. If you're not keen on a DJ's style there's usually another along in 30 or 40 minutes (that's why I started those type of timings and stick with them) and I try to contrast the Djs with the ones either side of their spot. I also try and get DJs who can cover more than one area and if the style they prefer ain't working they can try another (or newies/oldies as opposed to style)
  21. It's the flip of Love Machine and I can't find mine. Could somebody post it up or Email me an MP3 please. Ta Ady
