The whole pressing was done in germany or somehere abroad and that's an original test pressing very rare about 3-10 copies done of each but not all, some of the later ones were without tps.
It's a remix of the backing track to give it some oomph. I got a copy to Ginger to give it some Northern welly and it'll be on a Kent CD eventually prob a year to 18 months.
Because we hadn't secured the rights at first and there were some dodgy people about who would have dived in and take advantage of the initial work. Same with Torture being accredited to Jackie Day originally.
Yeah Binsy, Ivor, Ion, Val, Tony Smith etc would have been there. At Heaven the men's toilet was all mirrored, very disconcerting and not an offer to be had.
I think it was Chris Brick who ran it out of their Demob clothes and extras service from Beak St in Soho. They were like the first warehouse parties and i met my future wife Sylvia at one on Roseberry Avenue Islington, the scene of several of keb's weddings.
Hi Ray,
Ady here. In my last research for the version by the Mayberry Movement that we put on Modern Masterpieces vol 2, I discovered that Russell Mabery from the group was very involved with the 125th Street candy Store on Uptite and Fania, did you know them at all then or have you heard from them since you recorded with them?
You know what i can't bloody remember. I think I thought it was LP only and put it on an acetate, it was mainly because Guy used to play that other version which i can't remember either
Mine would be
Quotations I Wanna Thank You Baby DiVenus acetate
Nancy Wilcox Gambler's Blues, He'll Be Leaving You
Paramount Four Sorry Ain't The Word
Jackie Day Get To Steppin
Jesse Davis Hang On In There inst
Gary & Gene Baby Without You
Jaibi & Larry Banks My Life Is No Better
gerri Granger Why Can't It Be Tonight-still!
The Demures I Wanna Be Good To You
Lilly Fields Changes
Frank Minion How Much Land Vik
Vibrations Surprise Party For Baby Neptune!
Lots of unissued original acetates and carvers, I always chuck in a slab of oldies too.
Are 2 totally different recordings and the LP sounds like a Pied Piper production in a lot of way, particularly the girly backing vocals. It's far superior to the 45.
Nice stuff Stuart but the pedant in me feels you should know that Eddie Foster was from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Someone once did an article on Kent records for a high brow arts mag, I'm still waiting on the gallery invites.
