  4. OK on the soundclip it's in Refosoul, any chance of a scan or just the label copy BAZA? Ta Ady
  5. It's getting so bad I'm having to do my own work! I found the New Yorkers 'There'll Come A Time' on WB is a GWP thang, anyone got a scan or clip of that one pleeeeeeeeeease? Ady
  6. Fine by me folks if Miles' has done a legit re-release in the US. It would have been nice to be forewarned though!
  7. I think it ostensibly licenses the records in Canada, i would be amazed if it had licenses for the very many and varied sources releases.
  8. Thanks Chaps, i know that one from the Pied Piper angle, it was odd one-offs like Willie Williams, benny Gordon, the Plus 4, Alice Clark etc that i was checking out.
  9. Sorry Mr Zimmerman, just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
  10. Actually Macca he was self-educated working class I think his dad was a milkman or something similar. It's a common assumption that such an educated person would be at least middle class but the socialist working class in particular took great pride in their learning and reading. You would have enjoyed meeting him, I'm sure.
  11. I'm not sure if that was aimed at anyone in particular but I hope I'm only guilty of that. The only knowing misleading I ever did was to initially have some cover-up names for some unissued tapes to prevent people either boot;legging them or applying for rights before we had had a chance to get them out after conducting a lot of research and hard work on them. Subsequent events usually proved me right to be cautious, the Mayfield Singers in particular being an example of how some people would nick a sound if they could. Funnily enough I've just done 6,000 words on a sleevenote for the anniversary singles CD that explains why the Magic Touch was originally credited to Jackie Day for that very reason. Unless the excuse was being paralytic I'm not sure how you could mistake 3 tracks for 6 or get the name of the CD totally wrong and make a fuss about it plagiarising when it clearly wasn't.
  12. Hi Shane, That's good news, it was a big enough gaff, I'm sure Dave would have been delighted. He had many interests which he pursued with the same vigour that he did Northern Soul in the early days. Ady PS Tell your mate to check the attic, just in case!
  13. Jaibi, Larry Banks, the Hesitations and Pied Piper things?
  14. Apart from Geminis Kenny Carter Benny Gordon Lawrence & Jaibi Cavaliers Dynamics (also w Zerben Hicks) Exciters and the Pied Piper stuff Willie Williams - this was the one that surprised me, it's a Johnny Pate arr, cond and prod but a GWP production and their Millbridge music. Are there any more odd ones like this?
  15. Are there any other GWP productions or associated credits on the label (or Loma or other subsids?)
  16. As a uni student back in 1970 I had to reach for the dictionary a few times when reading Dave's B&S articles but that was one of the great things about them. Prior to that a lot of music journalism was just weak PR for the record companies or artists that could have been written in their sleep. Dave raised the bar so high that many people upped their game and we got whole new perspectives on the music, singers and even life; it was very stimulating but was not preaching. The disappointment at Frank Elson's mundane name and gig checks thereafter was colossal, I stopped buying the mag. He could be wordy; but that's the idea really.
  17. Unfortunately he has a knack of writing (in general he's a good writer) that sounds very authorative and given his knowledge and great collection he often is. However he makes some really bad mistakes in his articles and the last one I thought he must have been pissed when he wrote it. I've already written a letter to Manifesto correcting some of the blatant ones like saying there were half a dozen James Carr on Goldwax Northern when there were actually three and claiming I had nicked the title name from a CD he did, which again was totally inaccurate, our title was completely different to what he was claiming. Wind ups can be funny, but his feuds go on too long and can become boring, it's his intentional inaccuracies that I think are damaging.
  18. It's very close and promises to be as good if not better than the first two. Cheers Ady
  19. Thanks Adam and Simon, that's answered my questions. Cheers Ady
  20. Actually, no rush, I don't need it desperately now. Ta Ady
  21. Thanks everyone and Martyn who PMed. Any idea where I can hear it on line, or a bit of it?
  22. And a bit of sound if poss too. Ta Ady
  23. Just about the first UK Northern bootleg by Jeff King of Leicester market, done before Northern had been named that (the scene was known as the Old Soul scene if anything then).
  24. Sounds right, thanks gene, i guess I couldn't really have disguised that title!
  25. Come on Smiffy, remind me what the hell I called it!
