  1. I could do with a loan if anyone's got it, also the 45s of Go Sam and Deeper Than Love. Ta Ady
  2. I've revived my view on the big gigs since Chorleysoul's post, it was just that I'd cut down on the punk side by the time they were happening. One big joyous all nighter would be a hoot but I think with 40 years of listening everyone's musical tastes are too diverse. There was a backlash against Wigan's blatant commerciality; was it a solid year of "last ever" nighters? it felt like it. And the music didn't grab a lot of people by the end, it was all about the beat and less about the soul.
  3. He's got it, by George he's got it!
  4. If the place is still standing I'm going to Salu near there with a team of non-playing cricketers 2nd weekend in Oct. Anything on then?
  5. Chris was acting like a kid like myself, I think it's called emotionally retarded or something now; basically too much whooping it up and not wanting to grow up. At 24 Chris and I would have been some of the oldest swingers on the punk scene. He was from Flint like Russ Taylor and had many a rare record in his day. Most punks got into it 77/78 and it probably took a lot of potential Northern kids away from it then. In fact one of the reasons people took to Northern in the 75/76 period was because there was no alternative rock/pop scene.
  6. I agree with there not being many punks around Wigan in 1977, I only remember Chris Harrop and me, and I agree that musically they are dissimilar but the energy and buzz of the best of them had the same energising effect on me. Punks were big on speed, though I'd just about stopped by then and the fast beats of both music styles meant that Northern stompers would have made a better punk musical relation than the politically motivated choice of reggae.
  7. What's 5 years in Northern Soul? Yes the Waxpoetics link was what fell through contractually. There's is a godawful dub too!
  8. Sorry i didn't make it clear. As a GWP production that we bought a few years ago, it will be the ender on the 2nd Vol of GWP CD out at the end of this month. It also contains some stunning dancers like Lilly Fields 'Changes', the Larry Banks & Jaibi anniversary 45 and the best version of 'Without Your Love' by Bobby Penn. There are also killer ballads and all sorts of GWP/Banks/Kerr related goodies.
  9. Jaibi 'You Got Me'. Well Saint Dave said it was and he invented the category. Going through the master tapes for GWP Vol 2, I came across one that sounded slightly different after a while. It turned out that it was the exact same version as the GWP produced Kapp 45 but there was a female backing group joining in on the chorus. The first time it's featured it is hard to hear as it comes in on the brass section and those are similar frequencies (and noisy), the second time is much clearer and the record fades out with the girls in full flow. Not a drastically different version but one of great interest to a lot of fans of the record; Messrs cato and Hampsey spring to mind.
  10. I pogoed like a derranged maniac on Jeyes fluid actually. In my addled head i was the best there was; i certainly nutted more ceilings than most.
  11. It's a side issue but as a London punk, the big gigs meant nothing, they were for tourists and posers; it was all about small clubs. i don't know about the Manc scene.
  12. Not too much considering, and as an imbiber myself nothing too unreasonable. It's a weird combination though and the two drugs, alcohol and amphetamine are very different in so many ways. I would say they usually don't mix well (the people on them) but again we've both varieties down the club over the years with little friction. As a teenager I used to get blasted with the lads on a Saturday night, have a hoot then neck some bombers and have a ball at a nighter too. Two nights out in one!
  13. I used to spin it at the 100 Club R&B nights in the 90s; so there! Cee Jay was a kind of fore-runner to Carnival, band leader Paul Williams' label I think.
  14. i don't think Randy had DTS it was one I played at the flat at the all night parties after the dances. Randy played Carolina and Derek & Patsy
  15. 28 AND A HALF ISH AT THE 100 AND DON'T FORGET THE dOMINION ON tOTT cT rD TOO.
  16. Thanks very much. I don't particularly need to see it if it's different but go ahead if you're feeling fruitful.
  17. Is it the same Ray Dahrouge song as Plus 4 on WB? Anyone gotta scan
  18. Anyone got a label scan of both or either sides please?
  19. Thanks for the replies and thanks to whoever made it reappear here. Ady
  20. You can get a box of 'em from Kent now, and no big wasteful hole in the middle. Geoff Whitfield ended up with one of my two for a monumental £40
  21. Thanks mate lemme know what else you can use. Ady
  22. I seem to remember Ady Pierce picking up a copy of this from Dave Raistrick for a quid or two at one of the Yarmouth weekenders. It's not in the price guides though, so was I a bit squiffy and it was really Believe In Me Baby?
  23. That's pretty much about it as far as I'm concerned too, well put.
  24. Also that would make it a 100% legitimate deal and I'm not sure if Simon was capable of that.
