  1. All bootleggers get criticised on here so please don't make out it's double standards. I don't see how say Chuck Jackson 'What's With This Loneliness' being included on a CD is getting obscurities to the great British public. It's hardly a hidden gem that never got played and it's available on two Kent CDs, for which Chuck Jackson will get the royalties through the US company. I'm very glad you've stopped and it's a credit to this site that you have.
  2. The artist will get paid if they go to the record company and let them know who they are and where to send the cheque to. Several acts have enjoyed unexpected windfalls in this way. With small labels the people are often still in touch. I couldn't tell you about the Shrine specifics, I'm not in touch with any of the artists.
  3. It came out on Wand, Steve G has a copy, I'm not sure where the Curtom comes from.
  4. You go to the label owner like I did for Shrine with Eddie Singleton, agree a deal and pay them a percentage royalty for the right to release the record.
  5. Not at all Kev, record companies love us paying them money to use their 40 year old tracks. The original US indie labels actually love it because they get money, recognition and their true history documented. As for the impact on us the freebies have, I'm not sure, hopefully the listener will want to hear he tracks in better quality when we put them out. These sites that charge to sell music they have no rights to are bang out of order though.
  6. Dunno, probably as I think Sidra's the only one Dave did, I've not seen the video though.
  7. It's the vocal to Sidra's Theme that Dave did for a laugh in Hong Kong with a very good black vocalist. It was a one-off there aren't any others. He's a good lyricist mind!
  8. Leave it out lads, it's hugely different from doing cassettes for your mates as they are charging for it and not licensing or paying artists, songwriters, label owners or publishing companies!
  9. Thanks Ian, Ooh they shouldn't have done that. Will be on to it today. Ady
  10. As it 'appens they seem to have avoided our owned stuff but there's a lot of stuff from friendly indies that we can pass on to the interested parties.
  11. It was a Shrine tape Eddie left in his office at Scepter where he also had a gig in the 60s. Presumably it was planned to be a later Shrine release then the company folded.
  12. But it is on the first Kent Shrine CD
  13. It was actually on a Kent LP 089 in 1989 first as an unreleased Scepter track, we didn't know it was Shrine related until later. Ady
  14. That's a recipe for success to my ears.
  15. PS Still need a copy of Caesar Till Another Day, we've got a poor quality label scan so far. It's not listed in the guides and sounds great, well worth digging out if you think you may have it.
  16. Good man; the Detroit soul world awaits!
  17. My memory's shot! Ta Ady
  18. Simon's scan isn't up to it unfortunately so if anyone has one, I'd be very grateful. Ta Ady
  19. Thanks lads. You're dead right Eddie, Damon's came first even though it was written by Abe Tillman. Yes, I always preferred Graham Central for that extra-added whizz.
  20. Which is doubly weird as I've found a master tape of a single edit. Any chance of a good scan to use in the booklet, or is this one you found on t'net? Cheers Simon
  21. Please, that would be awesome as the young folks say.
  22. Was this played as a new release or a "discovery" and if so why in preference to the Detroit Emeralds, is it faster (I ain't got the DEs here to compare). Anyone remember its Northern History? Ta Ady
  23. Thanks for that Richard, maybe it only got as far as demos like the Jimmy Scott 'Anna' seems to have been.
