  1. He'll have to do a tape first. He auditioned for the Mike Cotton Sound who were a very mod group and Mike said he was a good pianist but looked a bit square so he didn't get the gig.
  2. Double sorted gal.
  3. Well the Darrow Fletcher mention was interesting as I'm working on his stuff now so perhaps we can meet up for a pie and a chat when Leicester play Watford.
  4. Here here, or is it hear, hear? Don't go around apologising Rick; give 'em hell!
  5. Who? Alan, Elton or Benny? Yes it was one of those sorts of records, quite ground breaking.
  6. It did, flip of the original Candle In The Wind. That's why it was interesting that some black DJs presumably picked up on it: unless it was a groovy US record business chap.
  7. And I can verify that that is Dave Hamilton's handwriting, having seen a few hundred of his tape boxes and contracts.
  8. I think this was a big R&B hit in the States for him; which means a lot of black Americans bought it.
  9. I've mentioned this before but I got to look at that huge collection of his he auctioned off for the Terence Higgins trust and there was a sizeable original UK collection that had for instance all the UK Chess 45s from say 66-69 with Reg or Reginald Dwight written in very neatly in that little space on the sleeve for exactly that purpose. He was a serious collector.
  10. Presumably not the Detroit Emeralds song?
  11. Hi Steve, there's actusally more than 2 tracks duplicated I think about 6. The rest on the CD you've got isn't really filler, just not dancers. We never found out who did When I'm Back On My Feet but the acetate had Metromedia on it so perhaps it was for that label. This CD only has two out and out ballads on it and they're great ones. Cheers Ady
  12. Tim I think you're a decent bloke who did try and stay away from currently licensed labels and when you found out you were out of order stopped. So I'm not sure why you're seemingly defending your actions again. If Ace/Kent charge more for a limited press 45 or CD then the artists, writers, etc get proportionately more too and they are very happy with that. I agree there are a lot of people worse than you out there and we chase them the best we can. i just don't get the "you should be going after the murderers and not worry about the burglars" type of argument. PS That's a simile!
  13. That's a different case, but if someone is spending a lot of time and money to do what you're doing legitimately then your sales would be affecting his potential sales and possibly enough that it would make any legitimate production uneconomic. If I collected rare paintings and found some nobody else had through my own hard work and skills, I wouldn't reproduce it for sale, I'd just be happy I'd got it and make it available to whoever had any rights. Surely collecting should be about just that and if you want to take it to a business level then that's another matter and you should play by the rules of the business.
  14. Thanks chaps but I would point out that it's a different song to Cody Black. The Eddie Hill, Joe Matthews and Abe (Tilmon) & Denise (LaSalle) will be particularly of interest to the soul pervs on here. Ady
  15. Cissy's other big one in the Smoke was a Randy Cozens' favourite, an LP track called 'Love Don't Hurt People'; one of my favourite 70s soul tracks of all. Sean'll know the history of it.
  16. A powerhouse of a record that's been played at the 100 Club on and off for 15 years. Big in Barnsley too!
  17. And Liam Quinn did a top spot for us too, could be another theme night coming on here!
  18. That's Brett, he did the 100 Club recently and was top notch. Joel Maslin from Crystal Palace way just did a blinder there and he's on the youthful tip.
  19. Nice move Pete, I've just gone the route of donating for the record he gave me for nowt; so we're all happy and the silly sod's generosity has come back to help at a time of need.
  20. Excellent Jaco, a great read and a few memories jogged.
  21. That's not a premium line number is it? Only joking Simon; Merry Xmas mate.
  22. Fascinating Rick, what were the unissued Showstoppers like and did they ever come out? Ady
  23. Found the other thread. No wonder I missed it, 1977, I was pogoing!
  24. Thanks for the sources everybody, it's a great track and a good beat for the main rooms I'd have thought. I've not seen t'other thread, what label and year is it. Does anyone else prefer 'Payback's A Drag' to 'There Can Be A Better Way' like me, or am I missing something?
  25. Thanks, see you Tuesday maybe?
