    I've got Dave Crawford on Brent as 1967, later than the Billy Duke that credits Van and Luther Dixon so he's been a bit naughty along the way! Anyone got a Brent scan? I've never heard it.

    We're talking about two different songs here folks. To confuse things further I think Kent mistakenly put the writer to Van McCoy's Millionaire as Dave Crawford back in the 80s. The Chuck version was also done by Billy Duke Lee Thomas and Tim Brown mentioned an early 70s cover in the last Manifesto. I don't think the ShadesOf Blue is the same song is it? Ady

    Dave and I did Richard's Jazz FM show out of Manchester when one of his Deep Soul Treasures came out and Doug Hall drove him over once too so they must be around somewhere. He always said that series of CDs was the pinnacle of his musical life which when you consider his achievements with Motown and Northern is a huge compliment to the music. Ady

    It's probably your turntable is a bit high around the centre and they are slipping, stick the sleeve under the disc when you play it and it should remedy it Cheers Ady

    I'm sure Mick isn't retiring, we were talking about Butch's rumoured retirement at the 100 Club. I've heard it in roundabout ways from several sources but not a definite decision or date from the man himself; we'd miss him like Billyo!

    This Man's Arms was edited on the CD as we were right up to the time limit for music on the disc. The Kent 45 was a little deep soul bonus. We're gonna reissue it in a few months so will put the longer version on the CD then. Thanks Ady

    Well the Paramount was an aberration Alan and the others may have partly been to sell at Jesse's shows, he's primarily a live entertainer so it could have been a re-press when the other run was finished. I think it was considered commercial, it was aimed at Dean Martin originally.

    I just saw the original Impressions Bandera contract with Curtis, Sam, The Brooks Brother, Jerry Butler and manager Eddie Taylor. I'm not sure if it gets better than that apart from possibly Moses or JC & The Disciples.

    Thanks Pete, somebody's reading out there Yeah, test pressings on Paramount before they worked out there was a slightly bigger Paramount operation a few miles down the road. I'll find out if this is the copy we scanned. Ady

    Well yes he did start a new series of one for the Detroit address, but as Chico & Buddy was also Detroit it would indicate that Damn Sam was not in the same time frame as C&B or it would have just continued the old series. Damn Sam would therefore be later than 1970. And as Rolyat/k was 1971 later than that too.
