  1. That's an interesting label, different from the green one you normally see. It's like the Phillips Sisters and 0105 instead of 105, same Monday Is Too Late flip presumably?
  2. They were going to use an Ace owned Northern original but because of budget restrictions didn't, though we'd substantially reduced the market price. I didn't know it was for charity. However I'd be a bit wary of texting for charity, I did it on the way to Cleggy and had 3 follow up calls from 'em while I was trying to run the weekender.
  3. Ted Carrol licensed the Cressa Watson named version from Major Bill in the 80s and that's who Bill must have put on the tape box or alternatively remembered it as being by (or Ted got 'em mixed up!) it wasn't a big deal to either of them, just a nice odd soul song to stick on an LP. It's assumed more importance since it's become popular.
  4. Mine's a Martha Starr vinyl release Russ, I think Cressa Watson was an unreleased master tape that Ace put out on a weird LP in the 80s and it may well be the same as the Martha. Ward Burton is the same song but a much different backing and not actually a Major Bill recording as far as I remember. I've heard the Martha/Cressa version with added girl b vox from tape and it sounded great but I don't have a copy. Ady
  5. If it's a midtempo thing not a ballad could someone direct me to a sound clip of it please? ta Ady
  6. Presumably all Herman Griffin's work, Is yours any good, I don't see it listed apart from as a 1980 release which would be odd but feasible. A scan would be nice. ta Ady
  7. Come on peeps, you've got it in a pile somewhere!
  8. It's the flip of Iron Out The Rough Spots Any chance of a run of the mill scan of it please? PM would be good or ady.croasdell@btinternet.com would be better. Ta Ady
  9. It was in a big wooden trunk of US promos mainly from the mid to late 60s that Cas who worked at Warners brought down to Dave's Harlequin record shop in the basement by Berwick Street market in Soho. There must have been a few hundred great soul promos, lots of Brunswick in particular. Probably stuff the US companies were trying to get out on UK Atlantic back then. Dave was and is a top bloke who discovered quite a few sounds.
  10. It was Dave Burton, not me who found it in his trunk of treasure. He kindly let me have it for £2 when he could have got at least a fiver as I was a penniless student (probably 1972 then) and he was a great bloke. I reckon Bunky had 'em made up as personal promos, one step up from the stickers the DJs used to put on the labels. I flogged it to John Vincent in the late 70s because it had been booted and I was skint and thought I'd pick one up on my travels; that's one of the drawbacks of being an optimist. Still I've dined out on the story of getting one over on John Anderson for a few decades now. Ady
  11. I think U B or Houston Outlaws were rumoured to be from Toledo. Ady
  12. Don't know them, we have them listed too but no tapes or ever heard of them. Their Gonna Spread The News was unissued until we put it out on a couple of CDs and is a brilliant 70s dancer; it's on the Westbound Detroit Northern Soul CD. Doesn't look like either of those titles though. Ady
  13. Yep, we just got clearance for vinyl too
  14. That's excluding the first batch which are on SKM Ady 7 new ones at the end of July!

  16. Abadando was a US Mafia character; my apologies
  17. The Abadando's, or whatever the Wheel's owners were called, could 'ave 'em for using their logos!
  18. Those cloth badges are da woist; properly made blazer badges were OK but this looks like a poor kid's boy scouts shirt with his orienteering and 2 lengths breaststroke badges stuck on.
  19. Hi Imogen, i deal a lot with Ray as he wrote for Spring/Event and GWP, the CDs Kent have done on those labels invariably contain some of his work. We just put out Ann Bailey's version of Sweeping Your Dirt Under My Rug on the Manhattan Soul CD. The quickest way to look at his song titles is to go to BMI.com and interrogate their repertoire search engine at the bottom right of the page Ady
  20. Hi Mick, I can help with one of those queries. The Pied Piper RCA recordings were recorded at RCA's Chicago studios and United Sound. Many of the acts, including the Cavaliers, Metros and Dynamics, were put up in a hotel there for a week and Larry Banks would rehearse them all before going into the studios. RCA spent a lot of money on the projects and chose Chicago because they owned the studios. I'm pretty sure we listed several of the musicians on the Rare Collectible and Soulful Kent CDs we did of the issued and unissued RCA sides. There are session sheets for most of the recordings. Ady
  21. I thought Cleethorpes was your holidays!
  22. I think the full quote might be about old blues and soul fans so it was their perspective not remotely mine and they reckoned it was all sub! Ady
  23. Mark, you're praise is all the more appreciated because it is so hard won. Mwah x
  24. Dekka, we're working on the super-injunction!
  25. Tabs, did Winston get you back to the station OK? He gives lots of lifts but we've never known one be to a bloke before!
