Pied Piper at The 100 Club Part Two - Sat 29th Oct
Thanks Carl, a fantastic notion that I've played with many times but it would be very expensive with no guarantee of success and even if it was successful in Northern terms would lose a small fortune. It's the sort of thing a rich person would get a huge buzz from but we're in business in a shrinking market and need to concentrate on what we do best. Ady

Sunny & The Sunliners ...... Rpr Or Key-Loc?
I'm far from being a soul policeman but I've never heard of anyone being criticised for playing a legal contemporary release of the original press. Most UK originals would be banned and records like Jimmy Robins on Jerhart, O'Kaysions on ABC, Rosco Robinson on Wand etc Ady

Mary Love - Lay This Burden Down-Instrumental
As I was told by Madelon Baker that he nicked some Audio Arts tapes from her in order to put out his instrumentals and later license on to Goldmine, it's not within the bounds of possibility that the same scenario could have happened there. I don't know either way. Pete's alright, I don't think he'll suffer too much mental anguish over the thread.

It's also on a couple of CDs and there is an alternate version coming on the forthcoming Fame Box set. there was never an original acetate that I know of. I made acetates or carvers for Roger Banks and possibly Hoss. Glad you like it, there's a bit in the middle when it goes from very fast to G force.

Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
Thanks John, good info though some bits are a bit confusing, especially the journey from Texas to Philly which he said was south; that's the long way!

Pied Piper at The 100 Club Part Two - Sat 29th Oct
PIED PIPER AT THE 100 CLUB Pt2 Following on from our 32nd anniversary debut of the September Jones and Cavaliers tracks, we are proud to announce that new discoveries from the vaults of Pied Piper Productions will be played this Saturday Oct 29th at the all nighter. New finds include the original version of Tony Hester's 'Just Can't Leave You' Karate 45, it's called 'Love Will Find A Way' by Harry Gates. There is a different recording of Lorraine Chandler's You Only Live Twice with alternate lyrics, lead vocal and song construction. Also the original version of 'I Miss My Baby' by Detroit session singer Telma Hopkins recorded a year before Rose Batiste's release with different lyrics and titled 'This Heart Is Lonely' and a stunning Pied Piper instrumental of the recently massive discovery 'Gambler's Blues'. More finds are imminent but these four in conjunction with the September Jones and Cavaliers, should make it a historical and memorable occasion. Ady Croasdell

Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
Bob, have you ever seen a copy of New Image 'Who Needs A.D.' on Psyche?
-
Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
Sorry Bob, I should have A/Bed them before. Yes the Bionic is a re-recording with full group and a similar but different lead to the Psyche version. Psyche is much better, longer, cleaner and much better constructed as a song, they messed up the breaks and chorus/verse structure on the re-release. I can see vocal group fans preferring it though, just for the fact of the group. It took some analysing though, just listening to You Tube versions wouldn't really tell you either way. The disco version is OK, I'm not into it, you might dig it Ian, it takes a while for the chorus to come in and it's cute when it does. I can picture you in the gold lamE suit dancing to this one. I'd not describe the New Image Psyche 45 as psychedelic at all, its soul of its era (mid 70s?) with a slightly electric funk influence. OK of its kind but not for me. Thanks for all the input Bob and the rest of ya.

Re-Issues - Why Records That Can Be Found ?
I think you're making the assumption that the people who buy reissues are the same as buy originals. That's only the case in approx 50% of the buyers, the other 50% are vinyl lovers who don't want to spend £100+ chasing a record. They can get ten or more for that price, often with two good sides. One of our best sellers is a £50 record but our customers would rather buy a UK press for £6-£8 than chase a second hand original on Ebay. Or maybe they ain't got an American middle

Elijah Rockin With Soul Vocal
The vocal to Sidr's theme was great and Dave wrote some excellent lyrics for it but the vocal mix was too high. I asked him to bring the vocal down and he said it was recorded onto one track not two sadly.

Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
Thanks Ian, I couldn't play the clips though. Can anyone send me an MP3 of it to compare ady.croasdell@btinternet.com Was it ever booted on Psyche or is the chap mixing it up with the Bionic release? Ady

Excellent, that's answered my question, thanks fellas.

Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
The group say that the New Image version is a complete re-recording, but what I'm really asking is did it see any Northern action in the 70s or would any interest in the record from Europe have come from the "rare disco" scene of the time.
-
Charles Russell/new Image, It Ain't Easy
I've had some info that this was re-recorded as New Image due to European demand. I think New Image was still in the 70s so I doubt if it was Northern/Modern demand, more likely the UK and NYC disco DJs who were picking up on obscurities in the mid 70s. Can anyone confirm my notion? Ady

Masterpieces Of Modern Soul
Rose will probably be in the next batch but Darrow's project will take a little longer so forthcoming but not imminent. We want to create some demand first and give the record a good run out. I'm sorry I've never heard of those labels
