  2. I am going to be in Atlanta 15-20 March for work. Any suggestions on record stores, clubs, or soul nights? Thanks in advance...
  3. here it is! the flip of this... "i promised the Lord"
  4. "hold out" seems to be a version of old gospel tune that goes "I promised the Lord that I would hold on - 'til he meet me in Galilee!". i have a great version by Sensational Twilight of Brooklyn Gospel Singers (or something like that). awesome interpretation of it!
  5. Ronnie Savoy - the big chain (MGM) Wilma Scott - it's a mean old world (Verdy) Betty Wright - circle of heart break (Alston) Delilah Moore - wrapped up tight (Money) Tomorrows Men - who's that lady (Congress) Jimmie Jones - live and let live (Deke) Miss Jackie Moore - who told you baby (Wand) Jeanette Williams - stuff (Backbeat) Dorothy Berry - ain't that love (Planetary) Gospel Fours - let's get serious (Messenger) Little Jewel - i want to (TaySter) Leontine Dupree - I'm guilty (Nation) Roy Hytower - i want some more (Avin) Little Esther Philipps - mojo hannah (Atlantic) Big Daddy Rucker - just do your thing (GME) Stovall Sisters - hang on in there (Reprise) Mod Singers - i've got to space (Savern) Eldridge Holmes - popcorn children (Atlantic) Marvels - rocksteady (Pama Supreme) Viola Wills - first time (Bem Sole) Wallace Johnson - if you leave me (Sansu) Cornelius and Carol - so i can love you (Entertainment) Gibson Bros Band - love coming at us (Rocker) ... and a bunch more!

  7. Last year I acquired "look out love" on Tower and just love it more and more with every spin. Does anyone know anything know about them? Who they were? Other releases? Thanks!
  8. thanks for response! so...i checked the Fiestas page on "soulfulkindamusic" and they note that the song was also done by the Shantells and the Shieks. after listing to all these versions on youtube, i think the version i'm looking for is the Sheiks. not totally sure cuz on the Wire it is playing in a dude's car and its not that easy to hear...
  9. I have this song by the Fabulous Peps, but I saw an episode of the TV show "The Wire" and it featured another version of the song (slower). Anyone know who it might be? Thanks!
  10. ha! interesting. thanks guys!
  11. i have the WD of this, and the release number is #1028. it looks like almost all of the ones on popsike are the same (WD, 1028) https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=stovall+hang&x=0&y=0 this person on eBay is selling 3 mint copies - and he says they are re-issues and they are orange stock copies with the release number R7 74167(?). it just seems odd that a single that was so unsuccessful that there seem to be few original stock copies would be re-issued by Reprise? and it isn't rare enough to boot (plus, no bootlegger would make original looking sleeves). https://www.ebay.com/itm/191756105075?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT any thoughts? is this a modern re-issue? it doesn't seem rare enough for that either...
  12. just found out Philadelphia's "arena football" (indoor football) team is called the Philadelphia Soul!

  16. I am from the 'Nati, but haven't been there in a few years. Will be visiting there over the holidays...anyone know of good record shops?
  17. I'm heading to the City of Brotherly Love over christmas to visit my wife's family. Any legit record stores I should visit?
  18. not sure about the copyright issues, but they seem like two different tunes (and there is almost no lyrical overlap other than repeating the title in both songs). maybe a "musical" person could comment on the song structure, key, etc. that's beyond my knowledge.
  19. love the Hassles! i used to be in a power pop band and we covered this Hassles song.
  20. thanks all!
