  1. i usually spin the flip "wait a minute baby". great new orleans shaker!
  2. cool beans. thanks for response!
  3. there are two totally different recordings of this on Pip. does anyone know the story? one version other version anyone know?
  4. i just won a copy of this record on ebay for a couple of bucks. when i was checking it out on youtube i noticed one video had big backing (female? falsetto male?) vocals in the mix and another had none at all. does anyone know more about this? the guy who sold mine doesn't know if it has them or not (i guess i just have to wait and see).... without backing vocals with backing vocals
  5. one time i was DJ-ing and the music coming out of one of the tables started to sound terrible (weak and distorted - BADLY). i checked and rechecked everything and was mortified. turned out the locking "collar" that holds the cartridge to the tonearm started to come loose and the connections inside were not touching correctly. totally knackered the set. i hate technology!
  6. just got ikettes 'whatcha gonna do' (phi-dan) and willie gresham and free food tickets (majesty) - most ppl prefer "step by step" side, but i prefer "i cried boo hoo" - understated funk... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUz2e6yZLeI
  7. wow - dang! i totally assumed they were all cousins or something. glad i asked!
  8. Arthur Ashford, Nick Ashford, Jack Ashford.... I see all the names and know snippets of info (I read about Jack in the Pied Piper article here - and I know the others were vocalists)....but are they all from the same family? Anyone know the story? Thanks!
  9. i already have this, but it has a boring design on the label (just plain pink if i remember correctly). it is a great jam though! driving girly - and love that bell/xylophone sound in the arrangement. do you know if it also was released on the cool label with the skyline on it?
  10. this is silly, but i just saw a record on the "newark" label and decided it might be the coolest looking label design i've ever seen. i need something on it! any recommendations of what i should get on it?
  11. anyone interested...this looks like the original pressing WITHOUT the extra words written on the label... https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOVELITES-Northern-45-I-Found-A-Lover-Stop-It-NM-/271241736809?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item3f27447269
  12. hey! thanks for info. besides the pressing info, this is just a great song. i LOVE the fat, atmospheric production. I have DJ night once a month at a cafe/bar that starts early (9pm). when i start, i play the first hour of downtempo/deep/ballad stuff (things like Helene Smith "controlled by your love" and Dolly and the Fashions "the right one" and Jeff Dale "suffering pain") and this song sounds so GOOD over the PA when people are just sipping their wine and nodding their heads. LOVE IT!! even the "shooby-doops" at the beginning sound profoundly awesome.
  13. "The always entertaining Clown Prince of Hip-Hop is known to be a collector’s collector and he has made many outlandish claims that only he could live up too (a promo copy of Bob James Mardi Gras 12"³ without the famous Run-DMC bells on the break in a mysterious CTI record suitcase) but had no photograpic evidence to back them up. Apparently these technics were made specifically for Biz in 2011 in Japan and the straight tonearm modification was made by JDG. These pictures just go to prove Nobody beats the Biz!”"
  14. the coolest thing in this pic is his "Eric B" t-shirt, which based on the old "GI Joe" logo - amazingly awesomeness.
  15. another bummer (not really related) is that i just flew through Detroit airport on saturday and was excited to go to the Motown shop in the airport - and they told me it just closed like three weeks ago! the kid at the airport starbucks was torturing me "yeah, everything was like 80% off - i got a bunch of stuff really cheap!" damn it!
  16. oh crap! this is exactly the one i got! great song (the heartache is gone) - never heard it before.
  17. i was just in new orleans and picked up the Abet version of this single, except when i got home and listened to it - the "i think i am falling in love" side actually has another song on it instead. i have to re-listen to it to note the lyrics, but it sounds like a gritty uptempo female vocals (sounds like b swann, but not a song that i know). does anyone else have this?
  18. i just got back from new orleans and i picked up a nice little crossover record i had never heard before (elliott small - stay in my heart/girls are made for loving), for a few dollars. totally mint, but some storage warp. manship has the price for this record as 50 pounds on Bang, but mine is on a light blue label called New Sound. is this a re-issue? anyone know?
  19. also, it is not the irma thomas version (at least not the one on youtube), but it is (i think) the same song. any other females do this song?
  20. that's right, but a strong tax base is not an accident. detroit's leadership just never "grew up" when the plants started closing. in cincinnati, most of the Procter and Gamble manufacturing went elsewhere (though HQ stayed) and one of the biggest GM car plants (Fischer body plant in Norwood) closed, as did Cincinnati Milacron, LeBlond, etc etc (factories). they are all now replaced by mixed use developments (food, shopping, condos, etc). detroit was just run by hacks.
  21. detroit has been plagued with inept and corrupt local politics. i am from cincinnati, which was confronted with many of the same problems, but is doing much much better (as is cleveland, indy, st louis, etc). chicago is next. very sad. very sad.
  22. i was just in New Orleans this weekend and was eating a po'boy sandwich at a diner on Magazine Street at like 2am. over the radio a song played that had "don't look down" in the lyrics. female vocal, harmonica, up-tempo R&B (if i remember correctly - i was pretty lit up). anyone know?
  23. ha ha. now you are at 668: "the neighbor of the beast!"
  24. excellent. this one is great too... (and cheap)
  25. fantastic record, but i think you'd be hard pressed to find one for a fiver nowadays... ps - you better put up another post quick, cuz you at "666" right now!
