  1. It made me wonder because mine looks M-, but plays a bit noisy (like VG+)... sometimes boots are like that. But the labels look correct. Just wondering!
  2. Is there a boot of this? I found my old copy and just wondering because I remember getting it very cheaply...
  3. First off, I love this song. I was listening, and noticed at 1:30 into it, there is a "call and response" type inter-weaving of two vocals. My question is, is it Barbara Mason and a backing vocalist? Or is it two tracks of Barbara's vocals laid down on top of each other? I am trying to listen and see which vocal does not sound like her, but they both do (to my ears). This led me to re-listen to the whole song. It sounds like there is echo or (some kind of reverb or something?) on her vocals throughout. Maybe they recorded her singing the same thing twice exactly the same and laid them on top of each other? (I know in rock music, they have guitarists play the same thing multiple times and lay all the tracks into the song to make it sound "thicker"). Maybe I am totally crazy here (I have no experience in production/recording). Just curious.
  4. Love this song - just noticed the writing credits...
  5. great record!
  6. I just got the reissue that has the Kerston logo (versus the Cree logo). It also has a number written on it (282/500). Does anyone know if this reissue is legal? (as I know the Cree/BearFamily is) At least it sounds good and clear. Thanks!
  7. I got this record last year. It is a funky, raw, bluesy number (written and produced by Lee Rogers). The weird thing is that halfway through, the whole recording fades down (almost like the song is over and it is fading out) for like 3 second and then it comes all the way back up and continues like normal. Is this on all copies? Is it a pressing/mixing mistake? Was it done for some kind of "effect"? I wish I could find a video on YouTube, but no luck. (the image is taken from Discogs - too lazy to take picture of mine)
  8. Odyssey makes a nice one... https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1392266-REG/odyssey_innovative_designs_k45060blg_black_krom_on_gray.html
  9. I have a different challenge (here in USA). I have young people that have never heard the term "northern soul", but have open minds and wanna dance. I need records with moderate tempo and have a heavy bass sound that they can start moving to. Surprisingly, this is my all time sure fire record to get a crowd from standing and staring to moving and grooving:
  10. I also got one of these Saundra Mallet 45s from the Gordy mansion (came with weird "certificate"), but bought it for the flip "gonna be hard times" - nice swayer for the lowrider set...
  11. If you go into getonup's feedback, there is now like 18 negatives... The answer to each is something like "sorry, we couldn't give you a 1000 record [or 400, or whatever] for 8 dollars". I wonder if there was some accident or malfunction that tried to give all the records away for opening bid or something? Weird...
  12. This dealer just canceled their whole list of auction items (Ernest Moseley, Marlynns on Daran, Notations on Tad). anyone know why?
  13. sounds like a million dollars...
  14. I used to collect rockabilly a bit and one time in Cincinnati (1990 or so?) three older doo wop collectors bought a tractor trailer of 45s that had been sitting in a warehouse in Tennessee for decades. after they cleared out the doowop, they sold the rest out of a storefront every weekend for a couple months. listened to thousands of records ... (got a minter of "bopping high school baby" by Don Willis)... I didn't collect soul back then (was a teen)... wonder what was in there... if I could only go back!!
  15. oh! interesting.... I have no idea. I hope someone here has some insights....
  16. Hey - am in Stirling (visiting castle). Tomorrow night (Thursday August 22) will be in Glasgow.... any suggestions on what to do? Any pub nights? Thx all!
  17. awesome - thanks guys!
  18. My wife and I will be heading to Scotland in August. I looked on the "events list" but didn't see anything listed for our trip but was just curious if anyone knew of smaller things (weekly night in a pub, etc) going on in Scotland. We will be in Edinburgh (17-19 AUG), (near) Inverness (19-22 AUG), Glasgow (22-23 AUG), and then London [staying in Soho] (28-30 AUG). From 23-28 AUG we will be in Bordeaux, France (in case anyone knows of anything going on there). Also - if anyone knows of good record stores in these spots! Thanks!
  19. choon! "The Desires - Oh what a lonely night (Starville)"
  20. Pure class...
  21. Someone told me that the D and Fs were the same members as the Tears ("Good Luck my Love").... is that crazy? I can kinda hear some similarity in the vocals... but that's just a rumor I heard....
  22. Great song - didn't know it - just snapped up a copy for $30.... seems many on discogs are going for $100+ now...
  23. I got the Soul Majestics on the white AL-TOG label a few years ago for very cheap. I didn't realize the Chicago Music Bag label was worth so much more!
  24. It is the Followers "Gospel Meeting" and both Ashford and Simpson are on it (according to notes on back)... (was released on Roulette and Forum Circle, but not sure which was first) https://www.discogs.com/The-Followers-Gospel-Meeting-With-The-Followers/release/9440313
