  1. love this production - just pulses with drama. you've got tons of great tunes. you don't live in Cali, do you? we should run an event together! - Leo
  2. love it! i spin this June Adams out sometimes...
  3. My friend sent me this great video of the Beach Boys recording the song good vibrations. my question refers to section 2:00-2:10 where they show BOTH an upright bassist AND an electric Fender bass guitar being used. was this technique common (or ever used?) in soul recordings?
  4. yes! i started a thread on SS a long time ago specifically asking if the "Stafford sound" (which, to my limited knowledge would include many of the songs featured on this thread) was in any way related to the Belgian Popcorn scene. they seem to have a large overlap to me.
  5. i LOVE this one. forgot about it til now...
  6. i don't know. i assume its the same group as the Tiffanys on Josie... ...who have this gem...
  7. i have this record and it is listed as Scepter 1279 (with "same old story" on the other side - great tune also)... question: when i looked up on "solufulkindamusic" discography it says: Scepter 1279 - Oh Lord, What Are You Doing To Me / ? - 1964 (unissued, instead released on this number was The Younger Brothers with " Harmonica Lesson / Ya Gotta Believe Me") what does this mean?
  8. thanks! on your recommendation i got a cheapie of this over the weekend. what a great production!
  9. this is a bit quicker tempo, but has the full-bore, heavy duty female vocal performance i associate with this genre.
  10. never heard this before - breathtaking!
  11. Great stuff! Thank you! some more i love...
  12. I love tunes like Sweets - "something about my baby" or Big Maybelle's "it's raining." I'm sure people out there have tons of other great suggestions. I am looking to blow up my want list! thanks!
  13. haha. methinks even easier with 45s and a rounded adapter. i'll get right on it...
  14. hahaha. this all sounded familiar. i remember buying a number of records from "thatgirl75" on eBay last year. i looked in my boxes and realized i purchased this single from him and NEVER LISTENED TO IT! (cuz i got a bout 20 records at once and just forgot) THANK YOU for reminding me to dig it out! great sound.
  15. one of my favorite tunes from Mirwood!

i think the flip "i'll wait" is a much more interesting song. very moody...
  17. i know we have many complaints about eBay deals... but just a positive story: i bought two records at separate times from a dealer on eBay over the course of two days. was fully willing to pay shipping on each item separately, but the dealer went out of his way to make the effort to refund one of the shipping charges and combine (and this is UK to California shipping). after contacting the ebay member, turns out i recognized his name from soul-source. anyway, just goes to show there are good folks on this site!
  18. didn't know if others had seen this. someone has put up all of the complete "The Beat!!!" episodes on you tube. lots of great acts... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsKMPJ5z32R80ruJopRERDg/videos
  19. yeah, i got home last night empty handed. i used to live in SF for years, and after awhile just stopped shopping at stores and only did online stuff (cuz it's so picked over). LA is WAY HARDER cuz it is so spread out, whereas at least in SF you can walk most places! i was trying to map out some places in LA yesterday and it would have been like 3 hrs of driving! next time i will contact some peeps ahead of time and try and do it proper!
