  1. James Kelly Duhon - "in school" on Jude. Lots of fun.
  2. I always wondered whether Bette Renne was the same as Betty Renay... I know they are very different styles, but could it be the same voice?
  3. I started a thread on this topic ten years ago (time flies!)... may be some good info there:
  4. I agree. That bootleg theory made no sense to me.... glad I have this on Priority. Bought it on a lark (no pun intended) for the "without you" side, but then fell in love with the flip.
  5. ok - awesome! thx
  6. This is on Priority and Fairmount. Which is the first? Thanks!
  7. Yeah - that makes sense. And they do sound fully different (especially the lead for sure). I guess it just seems so crazy to me that major markets (Chicago and NYC) would be so completely disengaged from one another that you could have acts on such big labels with the same name at the same time (both sound like mid-60s., right?).
  8. I just got "I'll be there" by the Gems on Riverside. Is group related to the group on Chess? ("can't you take a hint"). The lead vocals sound different and there is the NYC vs Chicago thing - but I would have assumed they would have de-conflicted the name if they were different groups (on such big labels)?
  9. Ironically, I do not! Maybe I can call him...
  10. You know who would probably know the answer to this? Dick Vivian from Rooky Ricardos records in SF. That guy knows so much about girly soul and girl group stuff. He used to turn me on to so many records like that back in the 90s. Too bad he is not up on any social media (that I know of).
  11. Yeah that is weird - must be a type. This is not even close to being a male (as opposed to someone like Tut Sutton - who I assumed to be a female until someone on SS posted a pic of him!)
  12. Awesome. I am glad you are on the case! I love this style of singing/production so feel free to recommend anything you come across doing your efforts! (with or without Cholli Maye)
  13. I dug out my copy of "never get away" over the weekend. I love her voice. Did she record anything else? I can't find anything under that name.
  14. thanks! mine is stamped and styrene, so... crisis averted!
  15. Perfect. Thanks! Great song by the way. The more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. Very subtle and classy track.
  16. I got this record about a year ago - and then just saw someone selling a lookalike "re-issue" on their website. How can you tell the two apart? Thanks!
  17. Wow - the death notices include Scott LaRock... here is a memorial pic of him on the back cover of Eric B and Rakim "Follow the Leader"
  18. Has anyone else watched season 2 of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix? The episode "death row fugitive" centers on Lester Eubanks, who was a murderer from Ohio. When he escaped from prison in 1973, it turns out he went to live with Darrell Banks' widow (Darrell was his cousin). Weird! https://www.netflix.com/title/81026055
  19. Not sure if this is the correct forum... My question is "who was she? what else did she record?" I bought this single two years ago and the more I listen to it, the more I love it. Would love any info on miss baker...
  20. Does anyone know him? (I do not). I would be curious as to where the info comes from. They even list a specific number for the issue on Sansu (#1013).
  21. Wow! That is a lot of info!
  22. I just noticed that Soulfulkindamusic lists the Specials single as being on Sansu (as well as the Satch issue)... I have never seen one on Sansu. Anyone have a pic? Just curious... https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/specials.htm
  23. Just did some more research (not that anyone cares)... the name came via a group of Revolutionary War veterans in the city who were called the "Society of Cincinnati" (who took their name from Lucius Cincinnatus)... Learned something new today!
  24. Hahaha - may want to change the spelling of the topic to "Cincinnati" (not Cincinatti). I was born and raised there - and so am used to it being misspelled all the time. The name of the city was changed from "Losantiville" to "Cincinnati" in 1790. The name comes from Lucius Cincinnatus - a Roman dictator who saved Rome from a crisis and then gave up power to return to farming...
