They do Sean.... those that have a more broad and open sprectrum re "Northern".... probably not so at your politely coined "Biffo" type night tho .... Pigeon holes, eh .... p.s. shame about Qube.... was looking forward to your set.... hoping it's sorted for our night or we'll be off also ....
-
Yeh, maybe those have had the odd play Peter but not regularly in Northern Rooms up and down the country.... Perhaps should have said Atlantic Starr, Curtis, Keni Burke, etc., instead .... But I was more inferring an era of the "new" plays at that time that get "pigeon holed" as MO's these days ....
-
Iwas thinking more along the lines of Janice, Summer In The Parks, etc., etc., rather than those above Sean that do get played in Northern Rooms....
-
Always hear the term in relation to the type of "new" sounds that were played at Clifton Hall.... Those now deemed to be too "old" to be played in the current Modern Rooms but still too "modern" to be played in the everyday Northern Rooms.... Hence "Modern Oldies" ....

Sorry but this night is now CANCELLED due to the refurbishment of the Qube not being completed following the flood and water damage from the flats above.... this follows a phone call from the owner on Thursday 6th November to state he didn't want us to run in what may be an "unfinished club" the way things were going.... better to cancel than take a chance on it being ready.... Apologies from us and on behalf of the Qube.... All should be back to normal for Friday 12th December which is the next "Vault of Soul @ Qube" night.... hope to see you then.... The Friendship Boys, Mark & 'Geordie', are now due to guest in January due to this cancellation....

Yeh quite ironic Harry that the bids to "lift" it came from the two bidders after you'd highlighted the link .... I'd get yourself some commission sorted from the seller pal ....

Anybody Heard This Jennifer Hudson "spotlight"

As said earlier Bob, it's getting loads of mainstream radio airplay now.... don't think it's "crossing over" it's just being "discussed" for what it is.... although Sean did state earlier that the UK Modern Soul gave it some plays.... not being a regular attendee at these "boom boom" ( ) clubs I can't comment on that other than to say it does have that type of vibe to have been played in them.... -

Yep.... ears bleeding here .... pretty much similar to the remix featuring Nonscence (the name says it all ).... Different again are the Moto Blanco mix (HERE) which is very "housy" IMO and the Johnny Vicious mix (HERE) which is, perhaps, more "garagey"IMO.... buy hey, what do I know re placing stuff in genre styles like this .... Plus there's others to be found.... There'll soon be more mixes than "Billboard slots" .... -

Which one Dawn.... there's a "few" up on YouTube.... only listened to a couple of them very briefly over last month or so as had to stop before my ears bled .... I just have this "problem" with remixes in that they tend to mostly spoil the ethos of what the track is aimed at.... I'm a believer that a track should be heard as it was originally recorded.... I do, however, concede that very, very occasionally a remix can do a tune justice in it's "own" right as a tune.... Suppose I'm old school, masybe, as it's a bit like my view on records "pitched" up or down.... but that's a different thread so don't get me started .... top and bottom, if a tune is good enough it doesn't need "altering" .... -
I would agree there was probably more "into" it at it's peak in the 70's as far as comparing the decades for being "into" it.... But I would say there were more people "on" the scene around the start of Y2K as we had all the generations at once, i.e. the "original" late 60's/70's crowd, the late 70's/80's folk, the returnees of both those periods, plus those getting "into" throughout the 90's upto now.... slowly receeding again now though due to folks ages, lathargy, the returnees having had "their refill" and disappearing again, plus, dare I say, boredom from actually going out and living it.... Just how I see it but difficult to call really, I suspect....

It's been "available" via web sites and YouTube for a while now.... 3-4 months I think.... Gaining more "commercial" exposure via radio the last few weeks as it's the debut single from her first album which was released on September 30th.... just noticed JH has had embedding disabled on her YT site (and had YT do same on others who've uploaded it) so the above shows "not available".... you can > SEE VIDEO HERE < instead She was first seen as one of the "finalists" on American Idol a few years ago.... Then went on to star in "Dreamgirls" alongside Beyonce.... This is her "live" performance of a "60's soul type thing" from the film.... "> -
Yes.... as has been ansewered by others before.... should have had a reserve in place as well if opting for BIN and straight auction (when a bid is entered instead of the BIN) when listing.... Of course you can "pull it" and have the dreaded "no longer for sale" added to the listing ....

This site >> HERE << won't account for items that were not considered as rare, as you say, but will give you the yearly comparisons of items that were sold as rare back in any year.... Interesting to see just how much "value" has either been added to, or taken away from, an item over the years....

I too believe in the freedom to be who you are but I fail to see a link to my post as I didn't "critcise" his religion... I repeat, for anybody to now wash their hands of previous wrongdoings after disappearing and finding God doesn'tr make the wrongdoings right or any less to those affected.... that is not criticising religion that is stating to use it to proclaim absolution from things past doesn't wash with some people.... I feel you read too much into the religion comments instead of grasping the point.... Now I'm getting back to work because it may be frowned upon by my colleauges that I'm utilising the NHS PC network inappropriately .... -

White label demos are difficult not to like in my opinion.... Just thought that with today's software a "fresher" looking label could have been designed for a "new" label rather than using a similar existing "old" label design... -

The post was to Phil.... didn't relate the design to you.... Only "bit" of post was asking if you thought it "Parkway(esque)" as a query to your "I like it" post.... Woah.... firstly, don't call me a fookin troll when the post was a comment directly for Phil not you.... secondly, you also seem to band insults about quite easily just for comments without actually being insulted yourself.... Thirdly, for your information the religion part was in relation to dissapearing for a while then suddenly returning stating "been born again" and coming across as giving himself absolution for all past wrongdoings.... something that just doesn't quite work out like that.... not stooping low.... just observed facts.... again not directed at you.... Finally, don't try to be condescending with "sunshine" and the rest of your "bullshit" reply when I wasn't even speaking to you in my post (except for very last bit as said).... It seems to me you could fall out with yourself just looking in the mirror based on your replies to me regarding my post to Phil.... so next time just be sure first that I'm actually speaking to you .... -

Yes it is like Parkway that's why I asked where you came up with your original design.... I'm asuming then you based it on the Parkway design intentionally.... As for your "100% legal" reply.... I didn't actually question any part of the actual tune's status with respect to that.... but thanks for stating it anyway.... -

Will pose the same question as posed on "Previously Unissued Material" thread as copied below.... Posting on the two threads it's promoted on may get an answer regarding the "originality" of the chosen design .... Yes but, no but, yes but see above.... very Parkway(esque) don't you think .... -
And just how much have you paid Parkway for the use of the label design .... If it's anything like your integrity with the Four Vandals release then it's absolutely zero.... but then again dissapearing for a bit and then returning to proclaim to be "born again" with christianity gets you off everytime doesn't it ....

"Nowt wrong wi pluggin summat".... as we'd say Paul.... Rozetta Johnson is an excellent track.... got her "Mine Was Real" release on Clintone.... also a nice track IMO.... Back on topic.... yes you're right of course.... was thinking more along the lines of the tracks from previous US/UK releases that were put out on Grapevine, Sevens, etc., in general rather than "unreleased" stuff....
-
So do I as said in this bit of my reply.... "Think my "original" stance is more 1st issue be it US or UK and 45 or LP only track" As in these what you say that were the UK release of the US release.... "It was actually older 45s I had in mind. London, Action, Stateside, Mojo, Contempo, etc. There are plenty of great soul tracks in those catalogues." I'm just not in agreement with the "new" Grapevine, Sevens, etc., being played.... The Kent stuff comes under the "previously unreleased" banner so is viewed differently in my opinion.... p.s. as for a new thread re UK relesed stuff.... maybe sometime next year when this debate is finally over ....
-
"Not sure about the 'new although legitimate' bit personally Paul" I meant not sure about agreeing to them being played Paul, not their legitimacy, with the above comment in reply to this part of yours.... "or new, as long as they are legitimate issues." Sorry if read otherwise....
