  1. Nowt wrong wi us ere Yorkshire folk.... especially being a proper "de-da".... what other Yorkies call us born and bred Sheffielders.... just like Brett and ShaneH.... still in the Steel City after 42 years.... unlike Brett I'm with ShaneH, and Ady (originally), on the blue and white half of the city....
  2. Not really thought about one particular track for myself.... I know loads mek me hair stand and give me a shudder for some past thought, memory, whatever.... but for me one track that stands out for a different reason is.... Timi Yuro - It'll Never Be Over For Me.... played (and again, and again, on replay me thinks) on entry and exit at the mighty "Bub's" funeral in Barnsley.... got everybody.... so much meaning about the guy and his affection for the scene.... and for everybody that was there.... Always liked the track but when I hear it now.... well.... say no more.... That big old "allniter in the sky" will be a much livelier place with him....
  3. Reading this thread about some peeps 6-8 weeks wait is not unusual.... About February 2003 I bought 5 off the same US seller.... had stuff off him before with usual 6-10 day delivery.... to cut a long story short, and the content of many exchanged e-mails, I'll cut to the chase.... the package of 5 arrived in late June/early July....20-22 weeks (ish).... the surprising bit when they arrived was the US post stamp date of February, as stated by the seller, was on the package....!!!! Queried this "slight delay" with our Royal Mail/Post Office service who took the query "to deal with" and responded by letter, and I quote from digging it out and looking at it (? why saved, don't know).... "....these things can happen, some packages may get mislaid or wrongly placed at the receiving airport by the contracted handlers, thus meaning a delayed delivery. This can also involve being re-shipped out of the UK, and probably the following recipient country(ies), only to be returned at some later date....." "....we can only apologise for your delay in receiving the item and any inconveinience this may have caused you. These things have been known to happen, unfortunately, but only on very rare occasions.... blah,blah,blah.,blah...." Still gob-smacked at this....
  4. Safely recieved Chalky's, Nick G', Mischief's and Al/Kolla's.... gonna end up taking longer journeys to places to hear as much as poss at one time and that's only the first four LOL.... never mind to hear all 16 (17 if Fraser's still in).... looking forward to hearing stuff I don't recognise/know, etc., just reading playlists.... but sure they'll all be "tops".... The missus took mine yesterday morning and posted them on her way home from work.... she ain't sure if she caught the late afternoon post or not.... so if not here today then will, no doubt, be tomorrow for everyone (except overseas).... Duplicates, as Dan mentioned, are bound to occur but in different playlists I can't see that being a problem.... how many times, when out, do we hear the same tune played more than once on a night.... in a different set it can have a different feel.... plus tastes and favourites will always cross.... Enjoyed rooting through the boxes and listening to stuff not heard for ages/a while when doing the CD.... hardest part, for me as it's my first CD swap, was trying to decide what might not be on other peoples playlists, irrespective of whether it's been played out or not, and keeping in mind Kolla's initial comments about "voyage", "build up", "mixing" and "changing styles".... Thanks to all for those recieved/ about to recieve.... Right.... off to tek a 2/3/4 hour journey to fetch some fags.... via the Peak district me thinks.... to chill to tunes....
  5. It's exactly the same Kolla.... turntable/hi-fi into back of PC (line in).... recording/editing proggy.... I use PolderBits.... see here Free as a trial for 14 days and a one off payment of $29.95 (£17).... Record track with adjustable/visible dB recording levels.... doesn't matter about length before and after.... when done editor opens and then can edit down to as little you want before/after music starts/finishes.... I usually have 0.5secs either side.... then save as either wav or mp3 file (or both if you re-open it in editor and save again as different)....
  6. Wouldn't mind a go at this.... never done owt like this before.... would be interesting/educational.... My problem would be knowing what ain't come out on CD.... having never bought one, had one bought or owning one.... Mine are all CDR's of own tunes done for the car, incl. the odd crackle, etc., to add atmosphere/realism whilst driving about....
  7. Hi Dan.... Thanks for comments.... It's a new site.... had the domain for about 4-5 months.... but only uploaded site at weekend.... Building 5 files for 1 streaming tune and label scan is time consuming.... especially for a novice.... Over next few weeks (or months....LOL) loads more tunes with scans will be added.... only used less than a 1/5th of space available....
  8. Already been there Brett.... unfortunately it only lists number, artist, a and b sides.... which we already know of course....
  9. At least it's some info Brett.... Apparently it's also in the 2nd edition, that much I found out, but no price listed with it.... A "google" search he did proved negative....
  10. Been trying to find some info for a mate re above tune.... He's had it quite a while and dug it out when we were putting streaming audio tunes with label scans on new web site.... Has since tried to find info about it and is drawing a blank.... e.g. year, was the recording a on the label a one off for Eddie, value, any demo's, is it rare/hard tocome by, etc., etc..... I'm also sure he's e-mailed JM in the past but had no reply.... The record can be heard and seen ON THIS PAGE.... about half way down.... Thanks in advance....
  11. One more for the e-mail list.... mark@vaultofsoul.co.uk Thanks....

  13. Mike.... If "other" side did get played I can't say I've ever heard it when out and about. I wasn't aware of it until flipped it about 7-8 months ago having had it for about 18-24 months.... ???? naivity.... ???? not getting out enough (wife wud disagree on this point).... Tis the official "b" side on the issue (S45-92385), T-G-I-O (S45-92384).... Not sure if it charted.... not looked into that much....
  14. Been playing "I'm Going Through Changes Now" the flip to "The Game Is Over", Bown Sugar, at Ponds Forge for the last 4-6 months now with good response. Excellent upbeat, feel good tune. Should have been the side of choice to play in the first place IMO even though T-G-I-O is also OK. Can't understand why it's not played more often by other DJs. Surprised how many people came to ask what it was and were then surprised as they also have record for the "A side" and have also never flipped it. "Found" it on one of those afternoons spent trying "B sides" for a change as usually just buy and play for the "known" side. Now make a point of "flipping" all bought tunes and trying to get through all existing ones.... cuz you never know....
  15. Look At Me Now - Ethics - VENT 1001.... What a great sounding tune for all of £10-15....
  16. Thanks for the welcome Gene....
  17. Hi to all "Soul Source" members.... My name is Mark, 41, married with two kids, 13 (girl) and 10 (boy), and live in Sheffield. Got into Northern at alocal youth club back in 1977/78 via some lads I knew that were 17/18 who used to give the DJ tunes to play and then dance to. Spent a few weeks just chatting about the music, dancing, clubs, clothes, etc. Became totally smitten to the tunes that were not known to the masses. Went to local clubs like KayGeeBee (DJ Nev Wherry), Turn Ups, Central, etc. First ventured over to Wigan in the summer of 1979 on a borrowd "blue card" which I still have. Tried to go at least once a month with money allowing. Went to Clifton Hall (Rotherham) from it opening up until it closed down where I became friends with Steve Croft and Adrian the co-promoters. Also got to know Richard Searling via CH and the other DJs, Steve Mannion, Pat Brady, Brian Rae, Poke, etc. Also went to places like Bradford (both Queens Hall and Bensons/Bierkeller), Morecombe, Stafford, Keele, etc. Was less actively involved in going places from about 1993 due to the wife asking me to "cool off" with expanding family and house moving. This didn't last long as I ventured into town in early 1997 to a pub was was having a new monthly midweek Northern night starting (Thursday). Met old friends there who were running and was asked to join them and together we started a better monthly midweek night (Wednesday 7-12) at the Deep End, which was a free night, as there was nothing in Sheffield or locally at that time. By the time of its 2nd Anniversary in Nov 1999 we had 200+ with Soul Sam as special guest for the night. To bring things up to date, we started running a monthly Friday night (8-2) at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from Sept 2000. This is still going strong and we've had some very complimentary write ups in Manifesto and Togetherness. Well that's me quite briefly. Looking forward to contributing to the forums in the future. Thanks for reading....
