Used to play this out quite a bit at Ponds Forge Shane about 3-4 years ago.... in fact put it on the 3rd Anniversary CD back in September 2003.... if you've got one of the CDs Shane then you'll have it.... still occasionally gets an airing nowadays as well.... Like "big daddy" says not an easy one to pick up although a "cheapie".... one of those you just don't seem to see for sale that often.... Not sure why but Nick's copy sounds a little slower than my recording.... or maybe it's my ears .... Good call.... that's had a play or two in the last couple of years also.... here's a soundfile.... Might as well go for the "hat-trick".... a cleaner copy for you to copy on to your PC Joan....

Probably true Andy.... Although I remember one or two "scuffles" at ours with a large police presence called for when rival Youth Club/School kids used to venture in .... Hold on .... tw*t .... Gotta re look at summat else for tonight now ....

-
We just had music.... no games at all Ian.... except girls of course .... Surprised at the difference between north and south.... surely there were some southern youth clubs that were just music or at least played it....
-
Full sysemsof the day.... Cloud double decks with built in amp, speakers and the "light show"....

My "senior" school years were 74-79.... we were lucky oop Norff round our way.... two youth clubs in area.... one on every Friday in a church hall.... the "better" one I was referring to in post.... and one on every Saturday in a playing fields hall that started when I was 15 that was more easily manipulated for the playing of Northern as there was now a large bunch of us "into it".... The first visits to Wigan were after these in 79.... well we left early really with the "original" group who brought the records.... used a "borrowed" blue membership and sh*t myself in case we didn't get in but we did.... KGB and Turn Ups then became regular visits here in Sheffield.... Then there was Clifton Hall in Rotherham.... the youth club was the "meet up" when still 17 in 79-80 before getting banned for becoming 18 .... then the pub became the meet .... The rest is history as they say.... Fond memories Ian ....

What, before strutting your stuff John ???? ....

Ours was for the 13-17 age range from 8-10.30.... the "junior" before it was under 13 (obviously) from 6-7.30.... you had to show your birth certificate to get promoted to the senior one .... I was 15, 1977, when they started playing Northern at it.... a fewof the 16-17 year old lads fetched records and the resident disco DJ would play 4-5 of them about 3-4 times after being pestered.... that's when me and the mates stood back and thought "wow", "wot the f*ck is this music".... the start of my "soul journey" fondly remembered.... p.s. how many, like us, then went home digging out your dad's Motown LP's to play and try to dance ....

Sorry but .... strange song and strange group name.... and not even "soul"....

More Belgian Ebay Bargains?have We Been Here Before?

Just thought I'd draw SS's attention to this "seller".... https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZgrooveQ2erecordsQ2eshop Seem to recognise some of the "scans" from previous sales when checking a few of the sales out.... anybody confirm ?.... I seem to think this because noticed they are all different which drew my attention.... what I mean is, if like me, a sellers scans of records are usually all done with the same camera/scanner with the same angle/layout.... Also what I find interesting is are "they" getting clever and not just "using" lots of big ticket items (a la inna220 recently) in one sale that obviously draws attention, but a bit of an unsuspecting mish-mash of tunes.... if indeed it's a dodgy seller it seems they're hoping to make their pickings via this alternative non-attention drawing ploy/scam.... payment methods state no PayPal as in past scams.... Does anyone know the bidder(s) on the Tan Geers record.... both German.... might be worth dropping them a line as I can sort of see how they've got drawn in, although the location of the seller, Belgium, should always ring alarm bells IMO.... and the most obvious thing being the usual one "feedback" with both buyer and seller being from Belgium.... If a genuine seller known to anybody then I'll apologise now.... -

They're nice to read through.... to try and get a flavour of the night.... but, as said previously, they can't relate to the night itself with floor action, busyness, general feeling, etc., no matter what type of upfront/outback/inside/outside/oldies/newies/new but old/old but new format is played .... Anyway.... have personally tried to gather playlists with a view to putting them up here later.... think I've managed it 2-3 times over the last couple of years .... seem to lose them/leave them somewhere when on the way home .... think the last time I managed it was when Jo Wallace appeared back in January.... As a bit of an aside (I think ) although in line with playlists, it gripes me when the lesser known or underplayed type tune that gets playlisted by a "unknown" often gets overlooked/scan read (unless of course your in the "know of it" clan).... but when it's playlisted or picked up on by a "known" sometime later, it then gains interest to be heard/searched out and so becomes tomorrows "played out" tune.... mmmm, BUT who then gets the limelight .... not the "unknown", they just then get noticed for playing it and deemed to have bought the latest "en vogue" tune to play out .... seen this happen a fair bit.... maybe a seperate topic for a future thread....

.... Listen .... "Love Invented Misery" ....

Just read this thread properly for first time and have to add my bit here because I'm not quite sure about the "spot on" bit re the lyrics Brian.... follow/listen to them a little closer.... this is one of them tunes I always seem to recall the lyrics to even when "p*ss*d" at a soul nite/niter as it's always been I fave of mine due to "everything" about it including the "heartfelt lyrics".... masterful IMO.... The "millbrand copyright" printed ones are probably what are/were on the original "lyric sheet" .... BUT not quite what he sang if you listen closely.... I've re-written the original lyrics from above in blue.... the bits I've put in RED CAPITALS are what ARE sang different/extra.... the words left in black are from the above original lyrics but are the missing, different or replaced words.... I'm sure you'll get what I mean if you "sing-a-long" again.... These slight "differences" in lyrics, and I'm sure there's more records that don't follow the original written words, show to me how the artist/group get "into" what their doing and "just do it".... brilliant IMO as gives the record it's soulfulness.... Added this.... for your ease of playing the tune .... ---------------- I woke up early this morning looking around for my love But her sweet voice I didn't hear, noWHERE Stopped a man in the park, yes I did And asked him why the women do the things they do He said son there's something every man must realise, yeah THEN HE SAID Lord made Adam and he made Eve, yeah He made them both, yes he did, a little naive, yeah It takes a man with insight, yes it does, to really understand, yeah We all go through some changes in life before we're considered a man, yeah Don't let today's problems get you down, no The CUZ time THAT she's been cryin' will surely bring her back around, yes it will Son I told you all I can Now you see what it takes to be a man We I must hold our head up high I'm a man, I'm a man I'll be ready TO come what may She'll be back, I know, some day The Lord made Adam and he made Eve, yeah He made them both, yes he did, a little naive, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will.... YEAH, YEAH, ALRIGHT YES SHE WILL, YEAH.... ---------------- Lets have more lyrics of the "hard to hear/understand" tunes put up on here I say .... makes for good reading/interpretation ....
