  1. I think you're right, the condition is `as new` and if it were a dream to own it back then AND you've just received your pension lump sum, well what the hell. Will a Lambretta be next on the shopping list?
  2. His implication is that the original sold more than the re-issue, so what?
  3. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Great-Otis-Redding-Sings-Soul-Ballads-LP-UK-RARE-1st-1966-PRESS-MONO-MINT-/311162018091?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4872b3992b Why do all of these folks want to pay £100+ for what is effectively a re-issue?
  4. The first Falcon's record on Mercury 70940 has Eddy & Rachael Floyd as co-writers. Does anyone know who Rachael is please?
  5. I've eventually found some session details for `Has it Happened to You Yet` and `Lonely Nights`. They are as follows - Carlis ‘Sonny’ Monroe (lead tenor) James Gibson (first tenor) Johnny Alvin (second tenor/baritone) Alton ‘Bart’ Hollowell (baritone) Detroit, MI 1964 L-124-A 315 Has it happened to you (yet) Lu Pine 1020. 124 L-124-B 315 Lonely nights Lu Pine 1020. 124
  6. Hi Robb, I have to listen to quite a few Falcons tracks today for some sleeve notes that I am working on and I'm going to try to get more of a feel for the various leads, I have their Big Wheel 45s so I'll include them.
  7. Hi Ricky, thanks for this, I'm still wanting to know if the two Payton's were related.
  8. Does anyone know if Lawrence Payton of the Four Tops had a relative called Timothy Payton who was in a small Detroit group called the Fabulous Four, who recorded a 45 (on an unknown label) `Woe is Me` / `Some Say Love`. He also co-wrote a track with Lance Finney for the Falcons, `Sent Up` on Silhouette 521 in 1957.
  9. HI All, many thanks for this info, does it look as though the Gene Martin track, Lupine 106 is a different song to the Falcons on 124 / 1024? I've listened to the Falcons track and the girl chorus is mixed well into the back ground slightly behind the level to the male backup. Unfortunately I don't have the Gene Martin version but did listen to I Got The Blues and the girl back up is at a similar if slightly less level. I doubt if the Lonely Nights I've just listened to is a '64 recording or by the second Falcons as it is a classic doo wop production and no way comparable to Has it Happened to You Yet.
  10. Hi Sebastian, thanks for this simple answer, this would explain things perfectly. The 45 is unusual in that it has the original Falcons on one side and the new ones on the other!
  11. In the Spring of 1963 the Falcons broke up and almost immediately Robert West persuaded the Fabulous Playboys to take over the Falcons commitments. Here's my question; `Has it Happened to You Yet` / `Lonely Night` Lupine 124 was issued in 1962 (and soon after on 1024) with the A side being written by Carlis `Sonny` Monroe & James Gibson who were in the Fabulous Playboys. As this was released a year before the unplanned break up, did West have some connection with the Fab Playboys? Thanks

  13. As a Yorkshire man for my first 18 years, I'll nominate Hull records, the place of my dad's birth.
  14. Being a resident of Kent I've always wondered if there's anywhere else in the UK with more US label name connections than here; Canterbury, Ashford, Dover and Kent.
  15. HI guys, I've been away for a couple of days and was delighted to see all of this info on my return, thanks a lot.
  16. Can anyone confirm that the orange Carrie release of `You've Got To Help Me` / `Take It From Me` Clifford Binns # 6501 was recorded and released in 1965? The SK4M 1076 in the run out places it in 1965, pressed at RCA in Indianapolis. The green label C 014 is a re-issue much later. My confusion lies in the fact that Carrie started out in 1961 with a green 1500 series. Was it that there was a gap between the early 60s stuff and the '65 releases as Carrie became La Beat in Jan 1966. The 6500 series could indicate 1965?
  17. back to being serious you guys.... any ideas about this dance?
  18. Back Street Blue.....you're a baaad man but come to think of it, there was an extended 12" of that.
  19. Does anyone know anything about the Pearl dance craze of the mid 60s? Probably big in Chicago, as both Andre Williams on Sport (Pearl Time) and Jerry O on two Boo Ga Loo 45s (the Pearl and Soul Pearl).
  20. Hi John,Thanks for this, it was buy it now so it's on it's way! Cheers Keith
  21. Andy, that is great detective work, well done. You obviously let her know just how much we like her record over here.
  22. There is just one Impressions 45 I don't have and have had it on my wants list for yonks - `All Through the Night` / `Meanwhile Back in my Heart` 20th C Fox 172. Has anyone ever seen a copy........and on the topic of elusive 45s anyone seen Wilson Pickett `That Kind of Love` / `I've Come a Long Way` UK Red Atlantic 584173?
  23. After many decades faithful service the drive belt on my Sound Burger finally died. I was assured that a replacement could be found as cassette players use similar, which they do but they are about 1 to 2 mm smaller which means that even with the adjustment screw to its slowest setting it still operates at about 48 rpm. So, I had to fa*t about packing the drive wheel out with cotton to slow it down. Does anyone know if the correct diameter one is available?
  24. Just a couple of thoughts - if the US sender states that it is a used 45, does it still attract as high a customs fee? Tonight I'd love to bid on a Dorothy Prince 45 from my wants list for $10 but the seller in Oklahoma is asking $15 postage and he won't drop below that so I've left it. I blame Lance Armstrong for the US postal hike, they've got to get their millions back somehow.
  25. Surprised Mick Hucknall hasn't muscled in, loading his "American Soul" records on to the shelves.
