  1. £50 is about the right price - although some have sold as low as $25 recently.... https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=johnny+taylor+wanted+one+soul+singer&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=15&y=11&incldescr=1
  2. That's not a Donkey, it's an Ass. Oh! Yeah.
  3. Nice cup of Déjà vu, anyone?
  4. Wasn't it the Parliaments 'Rainy Day'? After he'd had his set secretly recorded through the mixer at the Rocket?
  5. They were somewhere between $20 and $40 - can't be more precise as I wasn't interested in buying boots, so it didn't sink in.
  6. There you go then - didn't take em long, but in these computer savvy days all you need is a soundfile and a credit card, and hey presto you can have a quantity of anything pressed. At least they aren't trying to fool anyone with the labels.
  7. Is it a bootleg? Seen others on the same label stating it's a limited Japanese press. Other tracks appear to have been used on Adidas adverts (hence the Originals label) You could, until he last few days, buy these off reputable online dealers (Juno, Piccadilly records, Rarekind) now all out of stock.
  8. "Jokey" Off topic post hidden and now removed. Please remember this topic is in All about Soul, not Freebasing.
  9. Got one of the cheap ones from Amazon to try and get good copies of the ones I'm missing, and break the rest on eBay... Lo and behold the Temptations skips worse than the one in the original box. Don't suppose anyones got a non jumpy one to sell?
  10. No stamps in the dead wax - details are just scratched in. Original carries Audio Matrix and ARP stamps on Whole Lotta Woman side.
  11. I think this would have been a massive record back in the late 80s/early 90s in the Acid Jazz/Funky/Rare Groove clubs of the time. If this would fit with what is getting played at nighters now, then I'm well out of touch (thankfully).
  12. Bit of an all rounder really Mik - seems he tried with mainly with "named Dance" type tracks.
  13. Excellent. Thorsten (Pure Soul) has a shop there - all Soul and Jazz - and at very fair prices. https://www.puresoul.de/
  14. Sounds like a James Brown production from the 70s rip off. Somebody's been listening to Lynn Collins / Marva Whitney
  15. That Doris Willingham picture sleeve is a thing of beauty.
  16. It's the home of the Crab Fair and it's most famous part "The World Gurning Championships". It's a bonkers weekend - Cumbrian Wrestling, Pipe Smoking Competitions, and having Apples bounced off your Swede at full pelt from the back of a flatbed.
  17. At a guess the Jay Boy German singles would have been distributed / manufactured by the same company that did any German President releases.
  18. What's the Matt Guitar Murphy track like?
  19. I've never seen another record on the label that wasn't a Billy Emerson 45 (barring the Denise La Salle obviously) - but it appears there is a Matt (Guitar) Murphy track on it as well. The label was named after his birthplace - Tarpon Springs, Florida. Billy was A&R at Chess for a period, so this is presumably how "A Love Reputation" ended up on Chess as the National release. Discography taken from Dave Rimmers excellent site.... 6601 - Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson - Every Women I Know (Crazy About Automobiles) / I Took It So Hard - 1965 6602 - Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson - A Dancin' Whippersnapper / The Whip (Part 2) - 1965 6603 - Denise LaSalle - A Love Reputation / One Little Thing - 1967 6604 - Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson - It's Gonna Work Out Fine / Zulu - 1967 6605 - Matt (Guitar) Murphy - Suffering Soul Part 1 / Suffering Soul Part 2 - 1967 6606 - Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson - When It Rains It Pours / It Do Me So Good - 1967 6607 - Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson - I Did The Funky Broadway, (Part1) / I Did The Funky Broadway, Part2) - 1967
  20. Any version of this record... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWYQ7tqB_8U
  21. SoulStu, It seems that you have got some decent feedback on this event. In future you can get the gist of the quality of an event by searching Lookbacks, or by asking questions direct on the event posting. Locking this topic now as All About The Soul isn't really the place for it. Have a good one.
  22. Seems that a lot of folks are impressed by their own flyers - come on folks - the idea is flyers that are different to the norm....
  23. A tenner would be tops for a US issue, IMO
