  1. Wait until you get stuck into collecting Ha-Lo as well....
  2. Yep, First four issues all on 'explosion' label - the third of which - 6002 Alvin Cash - can also be found on the blue flags label. Not seen any later than 6003 on the explosion label.
  3. They are as legit as any Grapevine / Kent 45.
  4. Columbia Special Products was a legitimate reissue label - they did compilation LPs on it featuring 60s pop hits.
  5. First off a bit of background... This acetate was purchased as part of a large lot of Motown related acetates from an auction house in Texas a few years ago. All of the others were the real deal 8" and 10" discs - a handful of Mary Wells, an uncredited unknown crooner type track (crap) but deffo a Jobete acetate (it came with Jobete cue sheet) etc. Presumably this was cut in the eighties - it is an acetate, but it has a purple tinge when held up at the light like the 1980s Detroit acetates I've seen in the past. The labels are particularly well done - better than the cobbled together one on recent boots - but the paper is just a little too rough for them to pass as kosher. So the question is - Who, When, Where and Why? And how did it end up in a mixed lot of genuine items?
  6. eBay cannot officially allow the sale of bootlegs / counterfeits (even though it is flooded with them) so the list above could not be used. A few years ago I put a compilation LP up on eBay, and that was pulled because I stated I was unsure of it's legality. I find the following statement (with the appropriate deletions) in my auctions is clear enough to inform the buyer, but fits within ebays rules: This is not an original 1960s/70s press - it is a 1970s/80s/90s/00s press created to fill demand on the Northern soul/Popcorn/Mod scene
  7. I'd dispute that. They were put into records in the States to prevent a scam with 'Sale Or Return' deals with One Stop record dealers. A lot of styrene 45s cracked when drilled, so they were stamped with gold paint - check out ABC/Tangerine 45s of the period.
  8. The seller is Ray Copley - I'm pretty sure he's a member on here. Whilst he doesn't state Original in any of the auctions, his wording and pricing does lend to presumption that they are. Bit naughty if you ask me.
  9. Yes thanks....
  10. I think the lyrics are bit trite (sounds like he had one hand on his rhyming dictionary at the end of every line) and the musical backing is generally lacking in oomph. His vocal can't really be faulted, I just find it's a bit wishy washy at best. It's a 'go to' album for compilers of 'greatest album' lists, who are either very lazy or clueless (so they reel out the same cliched top ten). Commercial or not holds no sway in my argument - one of my top ten 45s of all time was a massives 70s Philly hit.
  11. Home Of The Blues is the local release. Vee Jay is the National label. Last VJ demo i sold was £50, that was a couple of years ago though.
  12. Since you are in the US and have no 'scene' baggage, wouldn't you be better off sorting flyers that would appeal/be more suited to a US / Younger audience, rather than having something cobbled together with all the 'vest and baggy pants' cliches?
  13. My mate Mr Angoos picked one up in the states with its sleeve for less than $100 off a major US dealer,
  14. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think this ought to be a Landfill recording. Can't hack it - and I'm not enamoured on the rest of the LP either. Prefer all of the tracks on MPG.
  15. I very nearly bought a couple off him - the tastes sour and another R&B track. The R&B track had another track on the flip, that he was pushing for sale, but I wanted it for the R&B side - when I told him I was only willing to pay 'x' amount for it as I wasn't fussed about the flip, he suddenly magicked a single sided acetate with the track I wanted on. It stunk like a bucket of fish heads left out in the sun, so I backed out on the deal. I know he then sold both the acetates on to other buyers.
  16. Lee Garrett - Issued take? Lee Garrett - definately not the issued take. Al Gardner - I'm Movin On - not the issued take? sounds rawer. Baby Jewel - Storming uptempo Northern / R&B - Unissued David Will - a~side David Will - b~side. Note it's a pairing of the a-sides of his two 45s on Soul Craft - not sure if they are the issued versions though. Mary Wells - reference disc for her Jubilee 45 (?) Another Mary Wells that came in a batch of Motown related disc along with the acetate above.
  17. Sorry, you're right - thought it was the 45 he was on about - not the LP - misread that bit of the post. Stick think it's bollox though.
  18. Probably not - Karen records were distributed by Atco for a period - more likely it was just a reference disc for the Karen issue.
  19. That is probably the most God-Awful thing i've ever seen. I now want to remove my own eyes with the blunt end of a teaspoon.
  20. Photoshop is a wonderful piece of software.
  21. That's bollox for a starter. I'd ignore any further messages from this person - if he's genuine it's for the Police to sort out, but my gut feeling is he's a chancer.
  22. Came out on Canadian Barry as well.
  23. A bit of both really. Not ready to sell it at the minute.
