  1. Troy Dodds on El Camino signed by him and his band.
  2. https://www.texassoulrecordings.com/ Corrected link
  3. I've never heard of this happening. U.S. flights - you can carry just about as many 45s as you can fit in your hand luggage - it's down to size not weight. It's the budget airlines you've got to be careful with - they like to scrape every penny they can in additional charges, hence the weight limits.
  4. You can get about 60 - 70 through as hand luggage on most budget airlines, even in a sturdy (and heavy) Swanflight box (just under 10 kgs). There are loads of 7" record "bags" on the market it's just down to personal preference.
  5. Mike, Thought this was some kind of Northern Soul / S&M crossover thread. Pah.
  6. Here's a true story that I've been dying to tell, and this thread is as good a place as any, and it sums up the 'parallel scenes' for me... A female friend told me this - she's been attending Northern nights since the 70s, mainly an Oldies fan but not close minded.. and it made her cringe. Whilst at a local 'oldies' do she was approached by a woman in her 50s wearing a circle skirt etc, who complimented her on her dancing. She got chatting to this woman, and was told that it was the first Soul night that she had attended and that her friend had told her about Northern, and she was planning to visit her first Weekekender (Skeg) but only ... cue muted trumpet... wahwahwaaah....after her friend had shown her how to dance 'Northern'.. In a nutshell it's full of middle aged Divs, who are aware that it is a 'sociable' scene, and think that they are taking a dip in the fountain of youth by singing along to Lynn Randell. And for that reason I'm out.
  7. I was hoping to make it a heart-felt story of coming of middle age - not a documentary

I reckon Lot Of Money is a lot rarer than Monkey - took me ages (years) to find an upgrade copy to replace my VG playbox copy.
  10. We were talking about the issues of Carl Carlton - not Reuben Howell.
  11. Yep, that's the one.
  12. 70s reissue (official) £15 ish
  13. I'm putting forward a script for a film about the current scene - none of this 'heyday' nostalgia for me... I see it as a cross between Tod Browning's Freaks and Cocoon The Return with a thumping 'Funky' Northern Soundtrack

  15. I've certainly taken my own advice Dave, I've cut promoting from circa 8 events a year to zero in the last twelve months. DJing - I've DJ'ed 4 times since January (all freebies for friends/charities - a couple of which were long-standing bookings)... I was doing that per month 18 mths ago. The trouble is - as soon as one DJ stops DJing they create a void - which like any vacuum is quickly filled...
  16. £100 US. £35 tops UK. The UK copy is a seventies issue to meet 'Northern' demand and sold extremely well - real world price should be £10, but it regularly hits £30+ on eBay.
  17. Your listening flaps must be painted on. A perfect example of rarity over quality.
  18. I'd say is a pressing fault - you get them on styrene records where the mold has been damaged during use. It shouldn't affect play so long as it isn't 'proud' of the groove.
  19. Bring back the late 80s/early 90s , those were the best years for me. Smaller venues with everyone all in one room. Plenty of oldies mixed in with 'Newies' and one-offs. One big Allnighter per Month/Fortnight One 'big' local Saturday Soul Night per month per major city - none of this 9 nights per county with under 50 punters per venue. Promotors who dignt DJ at other folks venues, so you didnt get the "you do mine, I'll do yours". DJs being brought in from other counties, not just Tom, Dick and Harry from a quarter of a mile away. Unfortunately none of this will happen until 50% of the 'returnees' feck back off.
  20. continued.... Argentinian Dionne Warwick & the Detroit Spinners promo...
  21. Just arrived today.... Argenitian Tamla Motown Elgins EP
