    can imagine some poor fckuer with arthritis and poor eyesight after scratching in the matrix numbers on every single copy of every record released.... Number was scratched into the master - then a mould was made... which means it came out the right way in the groove when it was pressed...

    In the UK you could put out any record without paying royalties so long as it was limited to 99 copies... as these were seen as promotional items and exempt Maybe it was the same in the U.S. A case of Motown blowing their trumpet by highlighting the fact that people wanted to cover their tunes?
