  1. You've already said you'd pay big money for knackered 45's to hang on your wall, Salvadors? Lester Tipton, . I think this really is obscene. it has nothing to do with the music as you can't play it, so it now like having a stinking moose head seeping over you dinner guests while you try to impress them , "ignore the smell" ..
  2. Get you! I'm impressed! Do you bother looking at the supermarket, or do you just throw your money around and wait for the little people to do something for you?
  3. In all seriousness I think it makes British collectors look like they've lost their marbles, obviously the recession isn't touching people who can burn more than $800 on a f**ked 45, rare or, otherwise, and no wonder more and more trashed 45's show up for sale. Andy Rix should auction the six pieces of the Counts Shrine 45, he might end up with a couple of grand.
  4. I don't like records that I can't pronounce!
  5. Pretty much, also including vanity recording, another example could be Dora Hall on Rainbow she couldn't sing a note but, her husband was a businessman who got records pressed for her.
  6. Not sure how you link to previous theads... from Rob Moss 19.02.10 "Popcorn told me that a guy came to him with a singer he wanted recording. Thought he was a barber and seemed to think the guy's name was Geneboro" and from Dave Thorley also 19.02.10 "Popcorn told me that it was a contract job. She came in wanting to put a record out, paid Richard whatever, he recorded her, arranged pressing and handed them over to her. As far as he was concerned that was the end of the story. Took him a while to remember the record when he was first asked about it. Producers like him would work on their own material for their own labels or the label they were signed to at the time and also do contract jobs. So Richards name does pop up on a few Detroit things where his involvement may have been little. Normally when you see executive producer on a label, the chances of them being at the studio when the track was cut is only 50/50"
  7. It is a manufactured record, done as a favour for a friend of Popcorn's his barber's wife or, something, there was a thread about this..... I've got a couple of broken 45's I might stick on at this rate!
  8. I've had one of these for years, got it off Mick Smith for a score. I believe Richard Searling's copy was one of these too?
  9. Funny enough I tried to sell a Ray Pollard for 250 back in the mid-90's, no takers! Kind of glad about that now.
  10. Yes to all, I'm with Pete on this, Hytones and the awful Michael Christian both terrible, though I like George Lemons!
  11. Never heard it played out regular in the 80's, tape swappers sound.
  12. Solid Hit goes Gene Pitney!?
  13. Wasn't Gene Chandler "I Hate To Be The One To Say" on Constellation a Ramitary pub, written by Keni Lewis or are we just quoting Eddies songs?
  14. The instrument used on many Shrine recordings....
  15. It is called an Ondioline, an early form of Synthesizer......from Wiki...could this be where Raynoma became familiar with it? Motown Records used an Ondioline as part of their studio setup between 1959 and 1962, where it was mainly used in place of expensive string arrangements. The instrument is featured prominently on dozens of early Motown recordings by acts such as the Supremes, the Miracles, the Temptations and the Marvelettes.
  16. Question to Andy, where any of the early Shrines recorded in New York? Chalky, Tommy Knight does to me sound like a Shrine recording as it uses similar instrumentation to the early releases in that it uses an Ondioline (early synth) prominent on Ray Pollard, Cautions etc. And Lada Edmunds regardless of Ed's involvement for the time, has none of the typical Shrine elements.
  17. I remember it being a popular tape swappers tune in the mid to late 80's, that's when I picked it up along with the other Players 45's, never heard it played out at a nighter though.
  18. Only just though Bob, Linda was the same Linda & The Vistas and the production team is the same.
  19. Not by name, but, the Linda & Pretenders "Believe Me" is close. And Enjoyables on Capitol was supposedly a Shrine recording.
  20. I mentioned that earlier! Clarkie lent me it to take a cut back in'87, unfortunately the sound is a bit thin.
  21. And the remixed versions!
  22. Tommy Knight's version of "Don't Bring Back Memories* Abtone acetate, later done by the Four Tops.
  23. Sure I got a WYS off Dave too, £4 or £5! No that was £10, Epsilons was £4!
  24. 19 I forgot to count 100! Jimmy Armstrong "I'll Believe I'll Live On" is unissued.
