  1. As one who doesn't have the cash to support such elitist views I can't believe you'll get anything but support from the wider scene. Been listening a lot to the old Kent/Stax Crossover/Let's Crossover again CD's, opening a new page in my love of this music. The new Masterpieces Vol 3 - a beautifully compiled piece of work. Would have though it an honour to contribute. Good luck & thanks! Mick
  2. Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston from the 1966 William Stephenson produced "Take Two" album: "Love Fell on Me" , written by Sylvia Moy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGLkaFIWuEg
  3. Might have been covered eleswhere but try Friday,Saturday & Sunday click to listen
  4. RE:FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY- There Must Be Something -DIG #296 "There Must Be Something" is a record I've always had a great liking for, though it also seems to be in demand on the bay for the "sister funk" flip; "Hot Potato". A neat Clarence Reid & Willie Clarke production, it appears to have been released on at least three label designs, one of which was clearly Stax distributed. This record is a nice lilting crossover tune that like many, was common at record bars about 10 years back. There Must Be Something: Here's the record ebay values at Popsike For the latest ebay copy US $269.99 ONO See here: Does anyone know the reason why the value of this, which used to be quite common, has lifted? Mine happens to be one of the orange ones, picked up for £10 from Beatin Rythm for a tenner, a number of years back. I nearly sent it back has it unfortunately has an edge warp, causing the needle to jump without a weight on the stylus. Soulful lyrics go................ "there must be something I can say, to make you look my way, there must be something I can do, to make you love me too, you have aroused my desire, my soul is on fire for your sweet love and tenderness, you lead me on and then you turn to stone, leaving me with loneliness, your girl I'd gladly be, if you just sock a little guitar to me ..(neat guitar break ensues)" Any info or discussion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mick
  5. MOTOWN LP TRACKS A couple of lesser known: A nice club tune from Junior Walker, "The Things I Do", from Home Cookin: (someone's gonna say this came out on a 45) Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, "The Hurt is Over" from Time Out For: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrS3rbikn8k
  6. Marvin Gaye "so Long" from That's the way love Is, a classy album: The Monitors:"serve yourself a cup of happiness" from the "Greetings we're the":
  7. From a CD, could be the anthology or cellar full of motown. See Ian Levine's You Tube post for more details and images of Kim from the Strange World DVD:
  8. Also from the Love Child LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEaywZ26_xg Fans do go to a lot of trouble with these excellent Youtube postings. PS Following the demand created at The Torch and Cats, Tell Me It's Just A Rumer was released in the UK on a 45, though it was originally played from LP I believe.
  9. Glad I can raise a smile constable! Anyway by far the best version of Born to love You, from the same MFP album as My Love is Your love; The Isleys "Born to Love You" :
  10. Nice, but a bit lounge for me. Found the LP a bit of a disappointment. Great voice though! Mick
  11. I suppose that the :The 100 Club Anniversary Singles 6TS 1979-2009 CD would be a start, as most tracks have featured on other Compilations. I guess that you knew that any way. Regards Mick
  12. Now there's always been room on the scene for a great "pop" tune, so here's my favourite from The Original's "portrait" album. However I guess that the Soul police will be straight on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zybXGrsaL9I Best instrumental from the San Remo Swings album, Lonely One by the San Remo Strings: The melody sounds a bit like "you gave me somebody to love". Overlooked by many from the Prime of LP, Shorty Long "I wish you were here": Comments welcome. Mick
  13. Classic!!
  14. Very underrated from the MPG album: It's a bitter pill to swallow by marvin
  15. Where to start? there are of course loads of great album tracks featured on the Soul Satisfaction CD series. Talking of Bobby taylor, how about One Girl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii2wWL7QACs
  16. Nice Tune - don't know the answer
  17. Re:Bobby Foster - Where do you go - Selecthits I notice that this tune did well last week, with a Craig Moerer auctioned copy going for $113.00 See here: Though it's a nice skippy Memphis crossover tune, I'm surprised that it warrants that kind of spending power. Comment appreciated. Mick
  18. I bought a copy from Goldmine about seven years ago for £15, more on the grounds that it looked obscure rather than a having a great liking for the tune. The strange feature being the fact that the bands name appears to be stamped on with a rubber stamp. Can't say that I'm particularly enamoured with tune as its a funky little number and probably a tricky dancer to boot. I have put it on several CD's for folks over the intervening years, the track passing off without comment. One was posted on Ebay last week with a asking price of £450, needless to say it didn't have any takers. Does anyone know if there's anything else on this label ? Some images at : https://www.popsike.c...0586323238.html Thanks for the info all. Mick PS how can I embed a Youtube web link into a post on the source?
  19. Double Dee "Found love" was a big Sasha Tune at Shelly's Laser Dome, Longton, Stoke in early 90T's. Definitely Italian Rave, unfortunately I doubt if it would find any favour on the Northern scene, happy tune for happy feet though. Fond memories. Mick
  20. Does anyone know the crack with this funky cross over tune? A few copies appear to have gone for big money on Ebay (ref Popsike). I know that a few years ago it was relatively cheap in boxes around nighters. Info appreciated. Thanks Mick
  21. Having just come across Lou Johnson's unreleased version of the Roy Hamilton classic by accident on Youtube, I thought that it might be worth another Mention on Soul Source, since others might have missed it. Now I'm not sure of the protocol regarding Youtube clips on the source, so I apologise in advance for any offence. Having done a search on the source, I know that has been covered before, but the sound file is unavailable through refosoul. This video can be accessed by clicking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2LXjdExxHQ. If you haven't heard this before, enjoy! Best Mick P.S> Hope it doesn't get pulled
  22. I think that the seller ought to have been a little more frank with the description. Granted that its a nice looking boot, but it is fairly easy to check on authenticity. However I suppose not everyone lived through the Wigan era when top tunes were being booted weekly. Mick
  23. Can't believe that the "The Magicians - Sweet Magic" , AKA Servicemen 1970's bootleg on Hitmaker, just went for £137.00 ,on Ebay .
