  1. Kent's latest Stax/Volt compilation slipped out without my noticing, though I dare say that it's been featured on Soulsource somewhere. The CD ,Nobody Wins-Stax Southern Soul 1968-75,includes many of the great tracks from this thread plus a number of previously unreleased items including The Charmells, Charlene & the Soul Serenaders,Sylivia & the Blue Jays and Calvin Scott's great version of I Never found a girl, Click here for a review, track listing and samples. Got my order in tonight. Mick
  2. I'm not a dealer but recent searches on Popsike (shows some but not all E-bay transaction) appear to show a decline in auction values over recent years. Many sellers it seems to me have an inflated idea of the value of some relatively commercial Motown output, based upon the brand and age. I would be interested to know what other folks think. Hope that this helps. Best Mick
  3. OK so I'll try to keep this going, Anyway I came across this beautiful mid tempo Kim Weston tune recently, on which Ronnie McNair shares co-writing credits. Too slow for most I guess, but it's a perfect vehicle for Kim's lovely voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd58DHe4yOk&feature=youtu.be
  4. This is real nice, Eddie Floyd again though:
  5. I bought this for La,La from Beatin' for a tenner, didn't realise that it had tripled in price. Nice one! Mick
  6. Annita Henson "bit by bit" , a cheapy available from Anglo:
  7. Eddie Floyd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZgWlRKkLME
  8. RE:THE MONTCLAIRS Paula 381 "Hung Up" There appears to be about one per month of these sold since July last year. Checkout Popsike: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?pagenum=3&searchtext=The+Montclairs+&incldescr=&sortord=&thumbs=&currsel= The seller is GB and FYI uses the same description: "ONLY 200 copies were pressed. THIS IS A GENUINE ERROR ON THE PART OF THE PRESSING PLANT. THIS IS NOT A RE-ISSUE OR PRESSING"
  9. It still punches above its weight. Nice one M
  10. Roy Smith (not my old Knype Hall Sec Mod class mate though)
  11. Why not expand the mind ? There's also a thread about Art Gentry at the moment, at the risk of repeating to those following it. The A side to Art Gentry's Merry Go-Round: I've always believed this to be "blue eyed", does anyone know different?
  12. The nice deep flip to Merry Go Round:
  13. There's a current thread about Art Gentry's "merry go-round", which incidentally has a great ballad flip, anyway it reminded me of "this is my chance" which is about as good as a blue eyed soul record can get. I believe that this is CD only, has it ever been put out on vinyl?
  14. Auction ? There's one in stock at Anglo for £30 Always a nice tune in my book, though there was a time when you couldn't give 'em away. The A side is actually a great true "blue eyed soul" tune, I Can't Make It". I was wondering if his Mojo release Breakthrough/Wonderful dream from 1972, was any good? The CD only unreleased "this is my chance" also a great crossover tune. Regards Mick
  15. Often overlooked flip to Angel Baby:" look into the eyes of a fool"
  16. Very nice mod tune & great You tube posting. Great stuff!!
  17. Only one DJ found on Popsike back in 2003, which went for £53 , see here. Best Mick
  18. Click here for the history of the group. A very underrated tune, in my humble. Thanks Mick
  19. Click here for re-issue (small 45) & bootleg Click here for scan of original. Original will have a large a white Okeh, (unless a white demo, in which case it is black) a large 45 RPM and a Columbia pressing plant zsp matrix number stamped in the run out grooves. Mick
  20. Don't know if the Cheers "take me to paradise" qualifies as a Northern classic , but as it happens the plug side is this beauty:
  21. Dunno what it is, but I really like this. Was it played at the wheel?
  22. Just to confirm that this also has "95" and D 1012A scratched in the run out, along with the Nashville etch. Maybe times played tricks on me and I'm thinking of Richard's comment about #1011. Although it is still a surprise to me as mine is a very clean record for a 1960's release, looks almost brand new. Soulsource is a great place to learn from others in respect of this music we all love. Thanks very much for everyone's input. Mick
  23. 'Cause I seem to recall that's what i was told at the time I bought it about 10 years ago for a tenner, I think at Beating Rhythm. Does anyone have any ideas on value ? Thanks for the input guys. Mick
  24. Hi there RE: THE SUPERLATIVES - Won't You Please b/w Don't ever leave - DYNAMICS 1012 I recently saw a copy of this go for decent money. Whilst admittedly the run out has a Nashville etched stamp in the run out grooves, I have been under the impression that it was some kind of re-issue. Anyone know what's the story? Thanks Mick
  25. A lovely lilter: Tony & Lynn - "I'm Hip To You Baby" Blue Rock
