  1. Obviously nothing compares to Frank Wilson in respect of Scarcity and Valuation, however what comes after that? I was wondering whether this is worth some reflection, particularly since some items which may be considered "played out" and were relatively common in 70's and 80's are still in demand and commanding high prices. e.g. Frances Nero, always a great tune but wasn't difficult years ago : https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=Frances+Nero&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=13&y=10 I'm thinking here of original US Northern/Crossover type releases only, not those records rare due to dint of matrix number or as MJ or Diana related collectables. For example : Kim Weston's withdrawn 1964 beautiful Tamla release "A Little More Love" TM54106, commands a very high price but has little to commend it from a Northern Soul point of view. Is there anything worth investing our hard earned in?
  2. There's also this We-produce double sider that commands a high price, the amount of money not being worth the sum of its melody. Much overrated in my humble: Ernie Hines Our Generation and What would I do -We Produce XPA-1809 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yASEBikdjfI
  3. Just picked up a pristine copy of this tune. Lovely! The Newcomers Girl, this boy loves you Volt VOA 4022
  4. Great thread guys, my education continues: The Masqueraders: Don't think that this has been covered? Alternative version of which there are many: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKkQEiPomco
  5. Here are some Popsike values: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=anderson+brothers&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=15&y=11 Mines a vinyl boot (1st with a ridged label) with an off centre label, bought from Selectadisc in mid 70's, with Company sleeve. To be honest i thought it was legit then, but there again I was very naive about bootlegs at the time. Nice to see that there are stockers about. Great record and thread. Thanks
  6. What we really need is some Beach Music (and some beach weather): Try Salty Miller One More Time {which unfortunately I don't have but "she's My Girl" is winging its way}: I believe that the whole Lp is great. Mick
  7. Yes I know, thanks for putting me on to it. Just thought I post the actual tune. Best & thanks Mick
  8. Like this so much ! Nice one jackie edwards do you want me again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3ou-OCznDw
  9. Re Put Your Tears Away I was lucky enough to pull a mint copy of I Feel So Bad for a song some years back through Record Collector Mag (those days are gone now) however having "discovered" the Put Your Tears Away LP somewhat later, I'd recommend lending ears to a stereo copy of that at around £30, rather than shelling silly money for the 45's, a great album at a reasonable price. Worth a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ_0Q9bv-BU
  10. Sounds like a complete nightmare, something we all live in fear of. You have my sympathies both for the loss and the trouble involved. Best Mick
  11. Ollie & the Nightingales:I've got a feeling:
  12. There's a thread on Soulsource about Volt e-bay rarities Way back when we started, but great Tune, here's a reminder:
  13. Originally released on Ko Ko in the US, I forgot that this was at one time a Stax distributed label. Nice One!
  14. Always loved this, on some none US 45 or LP only , I think: The Trammps:Stop & Think! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46OY3zZ17Ng
  15. This passed me by until today, nice detroit sounding: The Mad Lads "Patch my Heart": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUNCjSzgfOE
  16. The Newcomers Keep an Eye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXf974HbKtc

  18. FYI There are three variations of this issue on Popsike: https://www.popsike.com/GALLIANT-1001LITTLE-JIMMY-RAYYOU-NEED-TO-FALL-IN-LOVE/390339037224.html None have the "Gallant" spelling of the record label. One has a larger type face with no "vocal" and no double horizontal bars, the others are similar, but not the same as the current Ebay item, making four variations if you include the "Gallant" spelling. No description include references to matrix numbers or the type of plastic. Interesting, but I couldn't say anymore than that. Best Mick
  19. The VIP's exquisite recording, also available on a French EP: Prices at: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=you+pulled+a+fast+one&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=18&y=13
  20. Hope that this is not cheatin too much, as this is an LP track. Much underrated Junior Track from the Home Cookin LP: Junior Walker The Things I do [media=]
  21. Please excuse my lack of knowledge, which Newcomers 45 are you referring to? Thanks Mick
  22. Jackie Wilson "you left the fire burning"
  23. I take it that this is The Limitations Hold on to it. If its of any interest, back in 1973 Record Corner did 100 record soul packs (might have been 100 45's for £10). Being a hard up textile worker I chipped in with a pal to split the box. Obviously I can't recall everything in there, but there were a fair amount of Stax and Volt late 60's early 70's releases. At the time the Torch was our thing and we (unfortunately) thought that they were a pile of crap, We bundled em in 5's and sold them on to friends at 50p each, thinking we'd made a loss. A few were held on to in my half including The Limitations "all because of you", The Newcomers "mannish Boy" plus the Ethics "Sweet Tomorrow" on Wale and Jackie Wilson's much underrated "you left the fire burning". Basser my mate, had in his half Channel 3. Many years later I asked him about his tunes and he said his son had unfortunately nicked em from the loft and sold them on. The point I'm making here ,is that Stax/Volt was a vibrant commercial label in the early 1970's and to my deep regret I ignored their output. Evidently Record Corner must have felt the same. The people that I sold my soul pack tunes onto weren't collectors, they'd probably have ended up in the bin. Interesting thread, thanks for sharing. Just wish I'd got the cash for mint copies of the records mentioned. [media=]
  24. This is a lovely piece of lilting soul, one for the Tent, sounding very like Garland Green: Na Allen "every time it rains" [media=]
